It's an Adaptation
9 February 2022
It's so annoying to view reviews that complain this adaptation is not like the book.

It's not a valid criticism. If you don't know what adapting a story is, then check it out on google.

I enjoyed it for what it is. Well acted, great cinematography and mise-en-scene. Interesting stories adapted for a 21st -century viewer embodying viewpoints prevalent at this time.

A More Faithful Adaptation than Usual
24 November 2019
This production gets off to a promising start. Well acted and directed, it is a welcome change to see an adaptation that takes on board H.G. Wells's social commentary.

I would suggest ignoring many of the negative reviews here, because it seems to me that the writers have little knowledge of what the book was all about. Wells was a socialist and cared deeply about the inequalities in the established system. For those comments who rile against it being a typical BBC P.C. adaptation are doing a disservice to Wells a serious writer. As for comparing it unfavourably against the Tom Cruise version, well words fail me. Spielberg's action adventure, special effect laden version is decent enough for what it is, but if you want a more honest adaptation then I would recommend this.

So Bad - I had to Write About it!
20 June 2009
After 12 years of viewing IMDb on a very regular basis, this movie is the one that has compelled me to make my first review. I've seen many wonderful films during this time but not one has meant as much as this one to me. This is an atrocious film. Full of stereotypical characters, boring plot, little integration between the actors and real football footage, which was a strength in earlier versions. Furthermore, it doesn't appear to fit in at all with the two earlier parts of this trilogy, as the main character, Santiago is relegated to a supporting role and none of the people around him from the earlier parts have survived. You have a completely pointless set of Geordie fans which I guess were introduced to try and inject some humour to the tired plot. The acting is pitiful, the script is criminal and it was almost so bad, I could have watched it all over again, just to laugh at the total ineptitude. I awarded this film 1 - a first for me and I consider I was being far too generous.
