A very disappointing and wrong climax
25 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Always been a fan of thrillers by Sujoy Ghosh since the brilliant Kahaani. This movie starts ands builds the suspense well, but is very convoluted!

Performances are top-notch of all three lead actors.

I would have given this movie 7/10 stars, but found the climax very disappointing regardless of whether it was being true to the novel or not. One of ways the character "Teacher" manages to drive the suspicion away from Maya (Kareena Kapoor) is by killing a homeless man who is innocent and has no bearing to the case at all. I found this very wrong and disturbing on multiple levels, and it does not excuse any solutions he concieves to help Maya. Every body and life is priceless. This is the only reason I am even writing this review.

Very disappointed to see this.

Heartening movie experience
26 August 2022
Beautiful storyline based on a beautiful concept of a man who lives his life by relationships, promises, values and love. He is a simpleton, but by no means a dimwit and in this movie that implies that he has no craftiness to manipulate people or situations to his favor. He carries on life as it comes and never once thinks of wealth-accumulation, and thereby ends up living an wholesome enriched life without even realizing it. The character of Laal's mother is strong and stays in your heart for a long time; how powerful and formative a mother's influence can be for lifelong. The character is played subliminally by Mona Singh. The film is not free of flaws and some parts could have used better editing. Music is simple and great. Aamir Khan is good, but not sure what the purpose of his peculiar facial expressions and grunts was and what it indicates (kind of irritating). All in all, a great movie experience, and best watched for it's own worth rather than comparing it to Forrest Gump.

Superb movie, fun and so refreshing!!!
24 May 2022
Astounds me how movies like this don't become popular hits!

This is a gem of a movie. It's fluffy, fun and soooo refreshing and entertaining!! Barely get these kinds of movies these days; 99% of the movies are trying to convey some or the other message, teach or preach something (which is awesome, but sometimes movies should be just for fun and have no-burden to them). Script is smooth and flowing, acting great by all of the cast (the friend circle is a riot! :)), and the music by A. R Rahman is mesmerizing! The music is so new, fresh, soothing and in the narrative.

Highly recommend!!!!!!

Saina (2021)

Inspiring movie!! Thank You Saina! Parineeti, please don't stop acting!
1 May 2021
What's up with all the negative reviews?! People with no skills in cinema are rating this movie so negatively on such a spectacular inspirational character.

The movie is heartfelt, and sticks to it's core. It does not dramatize any emotion or event and likely that's what is irritating everyone. It goes beyond Saina Nehwal's victories, and takes a genuine look at the support system around her. And here you don't find a mother and a father who just pushed in the childhood and left; there is a constant presence, grounding - much as must have happened in her life. The sustained dedication over years and years, both of Saina to the sport and her family and friends to her is felt in this movie, and this is what makes it special. A movie tries to capture an entire life in a few hours and this is no simple feat, let alone for a sport champion's journey. Amol Gupte sir has done a great job. Parineeti has put in her best and her body language becomes one of a badminton player. Great job. Each of the other characters so honest to their roles. The mother and father have acted wonderfully and so real as her parents.

Please ignore the negative reviews, and watch the movie for the work behind it, for the inspiration that is Saina to the young girls. It isn't easy reaching where she has.

So much fowl language!
3 February 2021
I was so excited to see this movie based on the starcast and the director. But 15 minutes into the movie and ears were begging pardon; curse words in each sentence - and non-stop! It might be justifying the characters in the movie, but there needs to be some limit to such word usage. These movies are widely available, what message are you throwing across with such senior actors using such crass language to such an extent.

Great, innocent movie.

This is a fun, innocent, lighthearted movie, with a soft, kind soul at it's heart. Don't come across this kind much at all these days. It's a very relevant theme. Dialogues, production design are superb. Sonam Kapoor does full justice to the role. No overacting here. Her character grows with the movie and you realize the kindness of her character as the movie flows. Fawad Khan is adorable and did a great job. Special mention to Kirron Kher! Impeccable comic timing! Ratna Pathak Shah is superb! The entire supporting cast did a great job. Songs are nice. Can watch this time and again! :)

Fantastic movie, and Amit Trivedi does it again!! Great job!

In this review I am not going to take into account how the IAF has been profiled in terms of the gender discrimination as I know I do not know the whole story/truth into that. This review focuses on the movie as a whole disregarding who has made it, and purely commenting from a creative standpoint. First of all, choosing the first female IAF officer as a person to make a biopic on, is truly commendable. This is not a person we commonly hear about, and yet has played an integral part of the IAF, much like the other defense heroes who have unsung lives. To bring forth the work, courage of such a person deserves kudos. This is a truly inspirational story at multiple levels. With respect to the movie itself, each aspect of the creative process has been made very well. The script is gripping, and at no point becomes over-dramatized, or self-pitying. The characters are real! Much like in the real lives of most people, the parents are the positive force behind their children who end up accomplishing something. This movie is about the journey of Gunjan Saxena becoming into IAF rather than her a series of her later accomplishments. Her vulnerabilities are shown in a real manner and how she overcomes them. Performance-wise, I think Janhvi Kapoor has suited the role perfectly. Her acting is subtle and understated, not a typical drama that has come to be expected, so likely some people will find it expressionless. Pankaj Tripathi as Gunjan's father is amazing. His role is so well-written, and his character of the father who is the real force behind Gunjan is supremely inspirational. Ayesha Raza Mishra as the mother, and Angad Bedi as the brother are so good, and wish we would see more of these actors in cinema. Amit Trivedi does a phenomenal job with the music; soulful , melodious!. Jyoti Nooran singing Asmaan Di Pari is a gem especially. The direction is great. Just wish the movie would be a little longer and included more of Officer Gunjan Saxena's achievements. Good movie, give credit where it is due!

Terrifically mindblowing

Brilliant piece of work. I have not watched the original movie (The Invisible Guest) this movie is based on, but this movie is giving credit to the original, so I don't see the point in giving any such work negative reviews because it's a copy of the original. This story would have been hidden to a lot of people if it were not adapted in the Hindi version, including myself. The story of the movie is a masterpiece. It is an experience you only get by watching the movie, and watching it again; no words can come close to it. A movie that only gets better with dissection. The power of Mr. Bachchan's performance can only be realized at the end of the movie. Amrita Singh is stupendous, and really wish to see more of her talent! Lovely performer. Tony Luke is brilliant and superbly understated.

Beautifully subtle movie - please do not go with the negative reviews
9 October 2019
This is a beautifully crafted movie which is delicately subtle. Its subtle in all its aspects - be it the location, its foundation, its content, the performances, and the music. In fact it can appear so mundane, that not everyone will be able to garner its beauty. The makers and the artists clearly have genuine love and belief in the story. A story does not have to be entirely unique to pass a qualification of a great movie. Special mention to both the debutants, Meezan Jaffrey and Sharmin Segal for the amazing, amazing performances. This movie needed debutants beause of the innocence inherent in the movie's theme and core, and they have done a wonderful job. Their honesty glows on the screen. It will be a pity for the Indian film industry if we don't see more of this talent in the future. Each of the artists that form the male protagonist's group of friends are extremely good as well and add so much to the story itself. The music is soothing, melodious, hummable (which we don't get much these days), and grows on you. Its also very much entrenched in its environment, its folksy, classic...beautiful! Another aspect that is superb is how the life of the chawl is woven so seamlessly with the love-story - again, it reflects how honestly the makers have build this story. I really want to thank Mr. Bhansali and the entire team for bringing out this movie exactly the way it is. This one is to stay in the heart for a long, long time.
