The Walking Dead: No Other Way (2022)
Just wow
Easily the best episode of the season so far and what a way to close the reaper arc, if only this was episode 8 it would have made for an amazing part 1 of 3.
Maggie is a savage and you know what scene I'm talking about, great score, great cinematography and well choreographed fight scenes.
The only issue I really have is Lydia helping Aaron out the flooded basement with rope which would have been fine with a simple scene showing what was going on but it's very easy to look past it, some nice gore too from the mace.
The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye (2010)
The Start of Something Brilliant
It's been 10 years since this episode aired and I remember every minute of it. The introduction of iconic characters such as Rick Grimes and Morgan Jones played by Andrew Lincoln and Lennie James respectively. The slow pacing from the beginning that builds up and up until leaving you on a cliff hanger that was done right (Unlike the Season 6 Finale lol). This is the beginning of a show that in my opinion still holds up as it currently airs and is one of the best to ever appear on our screens, it's up there with shows like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
The pilot episode introduces us to the main character of the show, Rick Grimes, who was a Sheriffs' Deputy until being shot on duty and falling into a coma where he awakens in a world ran by the undead. We are placed into the characters footsteps and get to watch what someone would do if ever in the same situation. We see exactly what the character sees whether that is a rundown building, a crashed helicopter, or hundreds of rotting corpses lay with bullets in their head. We also get introduced to another character who isn't really important to the story until further down the line but he keeps Rick up to date with what happened to the world and how to live in it.
Their is a lot of memorable moments in this episode. The opening minutes come to mind, Rick is forced to put down a child walker who he thinks is a little girl trying to survive, it tells us as a viewer from the start that we are going to be dealing with a dark, heavy topic. Another scene involves one of the most memorable walkers from the entire series, the Bicycle Girl.
Both of the characters in this episode deliver a great performance, especially Morgan who struggles emotionally to put down his reanimated wife. Rick on the other hand is destined from the get go to find his wife and son who he believes are still alive after discovering missing frames and family photo albums. His reaction when he finds the house empty is awesome. While searching for his family he also discovers two people have shot themselves in the head because they couldn't face the new world, it really shows how dark this series is going to be in the future.
The ending of this episode is also one of the most memorable of the series and it will make a comeback several times throughout with a different variant. Any animal lovers are not going to like what they see when walkers tear the horse apart limb from limb. Rick getting ready to end his life before the realisation of survival lays above him. All of this plays out accompanied with a song called Space Jam that fits really well and then we slowly get a zoom out, bird-eye view of Rick's current situation and it isn't looking great.
The Walking Dead: Warning Signs (2018)
So good
If I am to say anything then it's that Angela Kang has truly saved this show because every episode so far this season has blown me away, it's fresh and I love every minute of it. I have no idea what would be happening right now if Gimple was in charge but I can guarantee it would be some pointless filler or a stupid plot line. Just like the previous episode, it continues a bit of the horror elements that have been missing since at least season 5, maybe 6 and adds a lot of mystery to it as well while still delivering a bit of action and good pacing.
The plot of this episode is that the saviours are worrying when several of their group start disappearing and it only gets worse when they make a discovery. The whole 45 minutes is a who done it and it's not every time we see something like that on this show. It's the first time in about 7 seasons where the action and threats are taking place within the group rather than them dealing with a new enemy.
On top of the mystery of missing people, more secrets are found when Gabriel discovers that Jadis is in contact with the helicopter. Saviours fight back and attempt to steal guns and it's all up to Rick to put them in line. The biggest twist of the episode is the people responsible for killing the saviours and the choices Daryl and Maggie make towards the end.
I'm really looking forward to where the season is going and I can't wait for next week as we are teased with Maggie Vs Negan. You can really feel Rick's story on the show is coming to the end as every episode has a main focus on him and these next two episodes are going to be tense.
10/10.
The Walking Dead: Here's Negan (2021)
He's here alright
This episode blew my mind, I hope we get an entire spin off based around this. It is by far the best of the 6 and one of the best of the entire show, Personally I think belongs in the top 5. Last week we had the weakest episode to ever air and it is followed up by one of the best. Jeffery Dean Morgan nails this role so well and I'm glad he will be staying until the end. Casting his real wife to play Lucille was also a brilliant choice because the chemistry works so well. This 50 minute episode is full of emotion, action and beautiful cinematography and will be sure to leave you wanting much more, I can't wait for Season 11.
The episode begins with Carol taking Negan to Leah's cabin before telling him the news that the council has banished him from Alexandria. He sits by the fire, drinking whiskey and begins to hallucinate his old self before deciding to visit the tree from 8x16 where he digs until he discovers a muddy Lucille which then leads to the episode splitting up into several stories. It plays with time jumps giving the viewer flashbacks within flashbacks before coming full circle by the end.
His wife, Lucille discovers she has cancer and after finding out the news also discovers that Negan is having an affair with her best friend but he calls it off after her diagnosis. Negan does what he can to keep her alive, scavenging for gas to keep the generator running and he even tries stealing from a doctor for chemo therapy, here we learn his daughter is Laura who ends becoming one of his main saviours during Season 7 and 8. He makes friends with these people, she hands him a bat for a weapon and he ends up getting the drugs before taken captive by a group of bikers. These bikers want medical supplies and threaten Negan, holding him hostage until he gives up the doctors location but it is too late.
He took too long with the supplies and Lucille has killed herself. He cannot bring it upon himself to put her down and instead burns the house down, wraps barbered wire around his bat and goes back to the bikers where he kills all of them, we witness his first Lucille kill and it is awesome. We travel back to the present day and his bat breaks after hitting a walker. He burns the bat and travels back to Alexandria finding out he wasn't banished and that Carol lied so that his death wouldn't be on her conscience if Maggie tried avenging Glenn, He looks at her with a sinister smile as she gives him the death stare.
Well Done Angela Kang, You promised and you definitely delivered. 10/10.
The Walking Dead: Diverged (2021)
A day in the life of Daryl and Carol
This episode just doesn't feel like the walking dead to me and I really hope this isn't going to be the road that the Daryl and Carol spin off takes because it just won't succeed. I do however appreciate that the show tried to do something new because we have never seen anything like this in my opinion, we get to see a day in the life of Daryl and Carol. This episode is by far the weakest in the 5 we have gotten and definitely feels like pure filler, it is unnecessary and probably only exits to give us an extra episode. In fact, I'd go as far to say that this was an idea for the spin off, a backdoor pilot that got scrapped.
So basically, the plot is that Daryl and Carol go their separate paths after picking up from the argument they had in 10x18. Carol heads back to Alexandria with dog who abandons Daryl, she makes soup, tries to catch a rat and has a heart warming moment with Jerry. Daryl discovers gas leaking from his bike and goes on a mission to fix it but walkers get in the way. That is it, that is the episode. I can already see the hate before I've even finished typing this review lol.
I usually have quite a lot to say about the most recent episode but this time I have nothing. It is slow, there is no memorable walkers or moments, just 45 minutes of unneeded filler to fill in the 6 episode gap. I have one positive and it's that I get a breaking bad vibe from this, the episode dedicated to Walter and Jesse trying to catch a fly that will contaminate the meth lab. It was a standalone and so is this. I can't even say the episode has great cinematography because that is something the previous 4 did have but this is definitely a nope.
I rate this a 6/10, not terrible but definitely not perfect. I would probably rate it lower but this is in defence of the 1 star trolls.
Halloween II (1981)
Almost as good as the first
The first movie was intended to be a standalone movie but fans demanded more Michael Myers and this is what we get. The sequel does something most movies don't do and that's having a continuation from the ending of the original, it literally picks up where the first ends and can be seen as one long great horror movie.
Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis return to reprise the roles of Dr Loomis and Laurie Strode in this sequel and with once again a simple premise, Laurie is taken to hospital to recover from her injuries and Michael Pursues her. One thing that was unique about the original movie was that the kills were lacking in the blood and guts department relying on the suspense and intensity to give the deaths a bigger impact. This movie ups the gore to compete with the constant 80's slashers.
The suspense is slightly lacking this time around as we are all focused on one setting, the hospital. The only suspense felt is that you never know what part of the building Michael is in. We are given another chase scene but it also feels a bit of lack in comparison to Laurie stumbling across her dead friends. There is a much bigger body count this time around and some deaths not even responsible by the hands of Myers. The score yet again nowhere near has an effect the way the other movie did it but it's still a memorable one none of the less and the cinematography might have a slight improvement continuing the POV tracking shots.
What I can say is the final act in my opinion is much better. Loomis sacrificing himself for Laurie's survival is a memorable moment in the franchise and serves up as a true ending if you don't feel like continuing the franchise and I also love the plot twist connecting Laurie and Michael, it gives a reason for him hunting her down but in some ways lessens the scare factor because him stalking a random girl made it a lot more creepy than him having an actual reason.
Overall I think movie is a worthy sequel and every Halloween you should watch this and 1978 back to back
9/10
Halloween (1978)
An Outdated Masterpiece
So I love horror and so I ended up watching the Halloween series, The first movie I ever saw from this franchise was Halloween Resurrection and at the time I thought it was awesome as a kid but now I can see it's laughably bad. I finally got round to see the original and even though the movie itself has not aged very well I was blown away to say the least.
This movie was made on a small budget of $300,000 and ended up being a huge success. It is recognised as the movie that kicked off the slasher genre, as well as inspiring a ton of slasher movies and icons that never quite got the same recognition. The plot was very simple yet so sinister as we rarely got these types of movies at the time of its release, People being stalked and killed by a unknown serial killer and it was effective due to its realistic nature.
The acting comes across as quite cheesy at times but that is down to the movie being released in the 70's, for its time it was probably considered Oscar worthy. The cinematography is well done putting the lightning to good use and overall giving the film eerie vibes. The score is amazing, the music is always occurring at the right moment and it is one of the most recognisable soundtracks in cinema history.
The suspense of this movie is where the talent truly shines. Tracking shots from the killers POV has you on edge of your seat, the movie is a slow burn for the first 50 minutes relying on intense build up and the final 30-40 minutes is non-stop horror, thrills and scares. The movie also introduces favourite horror trope such as the final girl and the killer hiding in the back seat.
Overall, even if you are not a fan of the horror genre this is definitely a movie you should watch and not miss. I give this movie a 9/10 and would rate it higher if it wasn't for the fact the movie seems too aged.
The Walking Dead: Splinter (2021)
The Reviews are ridiculous
THESE EPISODES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO PROGRESS THE STORY THEY ARE BONUS CONTENT.
Most of these reviews are just internet trolls who probably haven't watched the show in years bombing this episode with 1 star ratings. The episode we get this week is not the greatest but it definitely doesn't deserve to be the worst.
These episodes were all filmed during covid-19, they weren't even supposed to happen but the cast and crew felt they owed it to the fans. What we are getting are character centric episodes not intended to keep the story flowing, that is all being kept for the actual episodes. There really isn't any need for all this hate and just for all the negativity I will be deliberately giving this episode a 10/10
The Walking Dead: The Bridge (2018)
Love it
I said last week that the premiere episode of Season 9 was a solid entry and this episode is even better. Well Done Angela Kang for taking over as showrunner.
Another time jump has occurred, 30 days. All communities and the saviours have came together to start rebuilding the bridge that was destroyed during the storm. Straight away problems happen due to saviours not wanting to follow Rick's rule, they pick fights with Daryl and Aaron.
At the Hilltop, Michonne has talks with Maggie who still has Earl locked up for his crimes in the previous episode. His Wife, tammy refuses to move from the cellar door until she is allowed to visit him in his cell.
Tara is on walker duty, making sure none stumble onto the log site where people are collecting trees for the build. To make sure this doesn't happen, Rosita has dynamite to create explosions for sounds and other characters have sirens. Rick finds out from Alden that some saviours have gone missing and haven't returned to their families.
The best sequence of the episode in my opinion occurs in which a herd of walkers enter the log site because one of the sirens didn't work. Survivors panic and run off in the middle of their job resulting in a log falling and crushing Aarons arm. To deal with the walkers, Rick shoots the rope holding the logs and they start rolling down the hill flattening, crushing the herd. Aarons arm is now broke and can only be fixed by amputation, the person in charge of the siren that didn't work was the saviour that Daryl dislikes. Daryl beats him up severely.
Rick Banishes the saviour from the camp, Jadis notices the helicopter has returned from last season. Maggie agrees for Tammy to visit Earl before releasing him contrasting to Rick in Alexandria who is visiting Negan in his cell. The saviour that Rick Banished is attacked in the night.
The Walking Dead: A New Beginning (2018)
It's back!
One of the best comic arcs titled All Out War surprisingly had a poor adaptation to the screen leaving us viewers unsatisfied with the last season, this seasons premiere gives us promise that the show is back to its original roots delivering good TV.
A year and half has passed since Rick slashed Negan's throat and the communities are thriving. The first 20 minutes of the episode involves our survivors on a supply run to Washington D.C looking for a carriage, seeds for crops and equipment for the Hilltops blacksmith. We get a fun sequence involving walkers underneath a glass floor that begins to slowly crack as the carriage moves across it. The trip itself is successful but the road back, not so much. A storm has destroyed a bridge connecting the communities and a hilltop member is bitten trying to save a horse from walkers.
After the death of the son, the parents begin to question Maggie's leadership. Gregory takes advantage of this by getting the grieving father drunk and floods his head with bad thoughts, the father is a recovering alcoholic.
Daryl is leader of the sanctuary but some saviours still want Negan, Negan surprisingly isn't even in this episode he's only mentioned. Carol sees he is struggling and volunteers to take over.
Earl is drunk and with the help of Gregory attacks Maggie during the night, he is caught but not before injuring Enid. Maggie then holds a knife to Gregory's throat after learning the truth. The next day she decides to prove a point and gives Gregory a public execution by hanging.
The Walking Dead: Squeeze (2020)
Why the hate?
So I have one problem with this episode, how dark it is. This is a minor nit pick because if you watch it on the night as it was intended it's not so bad, you could also argue it was intended to be so dark so that we as a viewer felt immersed as if we were also in the cave with our group.
This Mid-Season Premiere is quite underrated, The Walking Dead has brought the horror back ever since The Whisperers arrived but the one time they go really horror focused (The Descent) the fans seem to complain or always have an issue. A similar complaint was during 9x08 titled Evolution just because we lost Jesus. It was done cool, effective and surprised us all.
Instantly, the episode kicks off with a decent pace and you can feel the anger that Carol unleashes in her scream towards Alpha as she looks down on our survivors while they look so helpless. They play the floor is lava but the lava is replaced with a walker herd. Daryl even uses a walkers arm as a torch and uses the flames movement to work out a possible exit, smart. For anybody that is claustrophobic yous are not going to enjoy these 45 minutes and the title itself 'Squeeze' tells you that before going in. Trying to fit through the tiniest of gaps while worrying about the walkers and the cave possibly collapsing, it does get tense fast.
This episode contains some fun sequences that will leave you fearing for one of your favourite characters' lives, Jerry. He's bigger than the average person and struggles to fit through a small entrance and there's some suspense when winding up a torch to notice walkers slowly crawling towards him while he is trapped. The Walkers even bite him but their teeth don't get through the material of his boots.
Another moment involves the group fighting Whisperers that followed them into the cave, they also discover a deep hole containing even more walkers probably put there by Alpha and Beta.
Daryl and Carol continue to have their talks about how Carol is selfish and should start talking, listening to him. Straight after their talk she goes against him and sneaks off with some dynamite she found.
Not all of this episode takes place inside the cave, we get to see what Negan has been up to. He betrays Gamma and tells Alpha she is a whisperer spy, he gets a reward from this which is a disgusting scene, probably one of the worst in the series and my eyes are now melting.
The final 10 minutes are intense and its backed up by powerful acting from all of our cast. Carol triggers the dynamite causing the cave to start collapsing and everyone needs to get out fast, the explosion alerts some nearby Whisperers probably aware of all exits. It is safe to say that a lot of Whisperers die during the episode. Before everyone escapes the collapsing triggers more dynamite trapping Magna and Connie under the destruction. Carol breaks down, starts to cry as she realises Daryl hates her in the moment and he walks off filled with rage.
The Walking Dead: One More (2021)
Best of the 3 by miles
The third entry of the bonus content for Season 10 leaves me and every other viewer wanting more. I was really surprised because I enjoy both Aaron and Father G as a character but I didn't know how well they worked together until now, on top of that adding Robert Patrick as a guest star just really tops this episode off in the casting department. This episode is 45 minutes of humour, suspense and brutality and it really stands out compared to the previous two.
The Plot - The plot is quite straight forward in which we see the characters of Aaron and Gabriel on a supply run, they have been searching for two weeks and have nothing to show for it. They stumble across a lot of walkers, burnt corpses and people that have been tied up and left to starve. Eventually they decide to scavenge in one more building where Aaron fights a boar and Gabriel discovers an expensive bottle of whiskey. After eating and drinking, the two bond telling each other stories while drunk and eventually they meet another survivor named Mays who lives in the building, he's sadistic.
The next 20 mins of the episode is extremely tense when the new character (Robert Patrick) forces the two to play a game of Russian Roulette in the hopes they turn on one another because no good people remain in the world. The acting from all 3 cast members is intense here. Gabriel talks him down with his words of wisdom before brutally killing him with Aarons hand weapon. We then learn that Mays killed or forced his brother to kill his family and tied his brother up in the basement who at first chance shoots himself in the head, this is what I mean by a brutal episode as we haven't had it this dark since Negan's first appearance.
This episode also welcome backs the gore, we see walking losing their guts and limbs and one walker is really memorable in the opening minutes. A few easter eggs appear such as the water tower (A reference to Gabriel's death in the comics) and the brand name of the expensive whiskey.
Finally just like all of the bonus content so far, the cinematography is on point once again. One scene in particular involves Aaron and Gabriel fighting a small herd of walkers but due to social distancing, we see the plants around them get covered in walker blood which is interesting, creative and saves money.
10/10
The Walking Dead: Find Me (2021)
Loved it
Quick rant
Everybody seems to be complaining that the last episode wasn't very good and this was worse just because not much happened, they are apparently slow, boring filler not progressing the story. These are BONUS episodes not intended to progress the story, just some content to pass us over into Season 11. These also got filmed during the global pandemic so stop complaining!
Plot - Daryl and Carol go out to scavenge and they stumble across a cabin triggering Daryl's past during the 6 year time jump. We learn that he isn't the original owner of dog, dog kinda gets an origin story. He was originally owned by a woman named Leah who holds Daryl hostage with a shotgun to his head inside the cabin he entered for the first time. From there they keep bumping into each other as Daryl searches for Rick's body in the woods, a sort of romance occurs but Daryl can't make up his mind if he wants to be with her, go back to Alexandria or keep looking for his brother. He and carol also seem distant to one another during the time jump and haven't fixed their friendship in the present day when the two start fighting which slightly feels forced but there's some great tension and music.
Seeing baby dog was adorable, giving Daryl a love interest was a cool concept and the fight at the end is setting up what's to come in the spin off. Also the cinematography is a 14/10
The Walking Dead: Home Sweet Home (2021)
Welcome Back Walking Dead!
It's been a while but The Walking Dead has returned to our screens for the first of 6 episodes extending Season 10 and I do love first of all what they have done with the cinematography, it's now digital and I hope this sticks around til the end because it's awesome!
As for the plot of the episode, Maggie is back and from what little reunion we had in 10x16 this is her real return. She was separated from Georgie and has dealt with a new threat, a group who call themselves The Reapers. This must be really tiresome for our other survivors who have literally just dealt with Beta and The Whisperers.
We get to see baby Hershel and he is so reminiscent of Glenn it's heartbreaking to see, he's probably going to have a lot of adorable scenes like Judith.
We learn the reason Maggie left before the 6 year time jump, the reason is Negan. By the way we do get a tense scene between the two during the opening minutes of the episode as she comes across him as he seems to be fitting well into the community talking to the residents of Alexandria in a friendly manner and wearing his iconic leather jacket. It must also be hard for Negan who at the end of the episode witnesses Hershel and must remember the time he stole his father from him.
There is one scene in particular this episode that was definitely the highlight and it involves the threat Maggie brought back with her. The villain is wearing camouflage, picking off her people with a suppressed sniper rifle and playing with his targets, he's even set traps and throws Daryl around like a rag doll. When surrounded he pulls the pin out of a grenade and blows himself up instead of facing defeat.
There was a lot of nice scenes during this episode that I quickly want to talk about. We get a face reveal of the masked man, he's also lost his sister like kelly who bonds with him. I like his character as well as another man named Cole. We also get a scene where Maggie discovers Hilltop has burned to the ground.
9/10
The Walking Dead: A Certain Doom (2020)
Satisfying
I was slightly disappointed with this finale but only covid is to blame making us wait so long.
For everybody saying their wasn't enough deaths, that is true. We only lost Beatrice, a woman from Oceanside not important to the story but she did receive a brutal death delivering us viewers some nice gore. The other major death was Beta and even though we didn't get the iconic fight from the comics involving Lucille, I was still glad to see him be stabbed in the eyes by both of Daryl's knives and Negan recognised him was a nice touch.
Gabriel survived his comic death and had a badass close call during this episode too in which he is saved by some masked ninja who is never revealed but also Maggie who has just returned, good timing.
The plan of walking into the horde in twos covered in the walkers guts is a really tense scenes when knife wielding whisperers are amongst the group, especially the no names that are torn apart and Beta tightening the guardians so nobody can see or move.
After a few casualties the main plan is set in motion and a carriage playing music takes the walkers away from the hospital, this leads to a cool scene where whisperers emerge from the woods in attempt to destroy the sound and even use the walkers as shields from incoming arrows.
Carol and Lydia have a really nice scene, possibly the best of the episode in which they lead the horde off the cliff and Lydia even throws Alphas mask providing us viewers a nice shot of the falling walkers.
A few things to mention here is Maggie has a cute scene reuniting with Judith, Negan is involved taking down Beta, a few whisperers walk into a brutal trap involving nails and Michonne is even mentioned between Daryl and Carol who slightly tease the spin off. Also, Connie is alive and is found by Virgil who for some reason has returned but oh well.
Finally let's talk about that ending that takes us into a Star Wars territory as well as a new era. Eugene, Yumiko, Ezekiel and Princess arrive at the rail yard and instead of encountering Stephanie they are surrounded by a couple dozen of soldiers in armour who look like they are cosplaying Storm Troopers.
Overall, this episode had one of the highest body counts and the most walker deaths, some great character development, gore, CGI, cinematography and music and had one of my favourite cliffhangers to date.
The Walking Dead: The Tower (2020)
Meh and great
As a comic reader I was kinda disappointed with this episode as it skips over Alexandria that included a graphic death (RIP Comic Gabe) and a bonding between Rick and Negan, I was hoping for this to be replaced with Daryl. Instead, Beta arrives with the horde and discovers nobody is even there except Alden and Aaron hiding in the windmill.
The group has relocated to an abandoned hospital that they keep referencing as the tower (name of the episode) but why? In there we are reunited with Dog, and a random cat who is somewhat relevant to the plot. Negan and Lydia share a heartbreaking moment over Alpha's death.
Daryl finds Judith alone in the woods killing walkers and she refuses to go back to the hospital, this is unlike her but she says she wants to learn what her uncle does so we get a little teaching. They come across a whisperer who Daryl kills and leaves the body in a ditch upsetting Judith where we find out she's acting the way she is because of Michonne's disappearance. He still doesn't know about Rick because Judith is afraid if she tells him he'll leave too.
Aaron and Alden slowly follow Beta and the horde keeping the others notified over the radio, the cat from earlier runs by giving the Whisperers a reason to head towards the hospital instead. The two are then surrounded by whisperers holding knives and guns.
Eugene, Ezekiel and Yumiko meet a new character who calls herself Princess, she's kinda cheesy and reminds me of a Fortnite character. Eventually she becomes a likeable character but she's also a little crazy providing us viewers with someone walker carnage when she mows down walkers with an LMG and leads them into a mine field.
She eventually gains their trust and because the horses explode she gets them a new ride, bicycles.
Overall this episode is a lame excuse for a finale although we have nobody to blame as it wasn't intended to be the finale and still isn't, just temporary. The episode was slow but when the emotional scenes happen throughout the show is at it's possible best yet
8/10
The Walking Dead: Look at the Flowers (2020)
Kneel for the new Alpha
In my opinion this was one of the weaker entries in this Season but that doesn't mean to say the episode was bad, in fact it was far from that.
Carol continues to be selfish and it's really annoying, one of my least favourite characters this season. She refuses to go back to Alexandria which leaves Negan hanging (quite literally) because if he returns alone he will probably be executed at the gates. Even after Alpha's death her presence still lingers tormenting and haunting Carol for most of the episode and she's even the one to deliver the famous line 'Look at the flowers'.
Negan returns to the cabin he had Lydia tied up in and is greeted by Daryl holding a crossbow to his face. The two don't get along too well but the chemistry is better than the viewers may think and I can see a possible bromance in the future. There is even a scene where some random whisperers put Daryl on his knees and tell Negan he's the new Alpha so he toys with the idea before they both double team slaughtering the trio of skins.
Eugene, Yumiko and Ezekiel set off on a mission to find Stephanie, there is a lot of emotional goodbyes, some possible death foreshadowing. During the Journey, one of the horses are bitten and slowly dies. They eventually arrive at the meet-up point where they find loads of walkers tied up and are then faced with a woman holding a machine gun.
Finally, the character the episode focuses on the most, Beta. Beta finds Alpha's head on a pike and he is angry. A random whisperer triggers him by saying he is the new ruler so Beta forces the reanimated head to bite off his ear. He heads into town carrying Alpha's head in a bag and eventually stabs the whisperer through the back. We learn that Beta was a country singer, he smashes a guitar and attracts a large amount of walkers by playing his music. He stabs Alpha and wears her skin in replace for the piece that Gamma ripped off. He then walks outside amongst the dead probably heading to Alexandria with the entire horde for another battle.
Overall, this episode was weak in some places but for the most part it was really well done, the score was perfect as usual and their was some deep, emotional scenes
10/10
The Walking Dead: What We Become (2020)
Goodbye Danai
This season has been great and now the storyline has took a quick pause to give us fans a send off for the zombie slaying Queen Michonne. This episode does not affect the pace whatsoever and fits quite perfect. Some fans thought her exit occurred in Episode 8 as we haven't seen her since but don't worry she's back in an episode the viewers will probably never forget.
Of course Virgil shouldn't have been trusted and Michonne should have known better but oh well, there is no weapons and his family are already dead. That's right, he dragged her away from her family and friends to do what he couldn't and that being to put down his deceased wife and children. We are not sure how this happened but we are given hints the people who took Rick were involved somehow.
Michonne is locked in a room and finds out there is other trapped survivors, Virgil's work colleagues. He drugs Michonne and she hallucinates in all the bad ways. She sees a zombie Siddiq, becomes the hitchhiker from season 3, joins Negan and the Saviours, Kills Glenn and Heath and is then killed by Rick and Daryl. She eventually escapes and finds evidence that Rick is alive.
She discovers his boots and a phone with a drawing of her and Judith. She calls for Judith and RJ on the radio where she reveals he could be alive and it's a really cute moment. She finds two injured survivors who are trying to make it another group before they leave them behind and Michonne helps them, this group I believe also is or has a connection to Rick.
Overall from this review the episode may not sound as interesting but trust it really is.
We get emotional moments, a lot of zombie action, a lot of plot for future storylines connecting Rick back into the fold and the exit of one of the greatest characters on the show.
The Walking Dead: Walk with Us (2020)
Just WOW!
I didn't think it was possible for the show to keep going without Rick but I was wrong and this clearly shows it as Kang is at it again giving us an action packed, brutal and emotional episode filled with twists and turns.
The Hilltop is up in flames, flooded with walkers and whisperers. Fires and explosions surrounding the survivors. Judith accidentally kills a human while fighting off the dead and Eugene runs into the burning building to try and save his radio/date. There is ash everywhere and Yumiko makes a shocking discovery as she discovers Magna blending in with the horde, where is Connie?
In the aftermath, Negan is deliberately mercy killing the injured survivors rather than letting them turn decreasing the chances for Alpha to gain more guardians, he ignores Beta when told to herd and runs into an angry Aaron while searching for Lydia.
Alden, Kelly, Gamma and baby Adam are on the road looking for safety and comes across a group of walkers so they take shelter in an abandoned car and Gamma takes action before getting stabbed by Beta! She rips off half his mask so he finishes the job giving her the killing blow, a whisperer discovers his identity so he gets a slit throat and Alden puts down a reanimated Gamma.
The kids from Hilltop are all safe and held up in a little shack where it's revealed Earl was bitten in the battle, this is a sad and dark moment which is sure to shed some tears for certain viewers. Daryl and the rest of the survivors find the kids just in time.
Magna tells Yumiko that Connie was also amongst the horde but she slipped away due to being pushed around by the dead so it's unsure if she's alive or dead, Yumiko then punches Carol in the mouth for what she put Magna through.
The biggest twist of all, Negan captured Lydia and tied her up in the a cabin where he then leads Alpha to, only he realises she will not stop til she kills her daughter so he leads her to a different cabin slitting her throat and holding her in his arms. He then hands Carol her head in a bag where it was revealed that she let Negan escape in episode 4.
The Walking Dead: Morning Star (2020)
Building and building
This episode is one of the slowest that season has delivered but that doesn't make it bad in anyway.
We have so many character interactions that are joyful, emotional and interesting at the same time from Earl and Alden debating what do with Gamma who has arrived at Hilltop to find her Nephew as well as Judith who has painted and repaired Daryl's vest. Carol has a heart to heart moment with Ezekiel and Lydia, a very truthful conversation.
Meanwhile the plot thickens and slowly builds up just enough to notice that we are in for a big treat in the next and upcoming episodes. The whisperers plans to attack the Hilltop have set in motion as help from Negan to block all paths with fallen trees and the scouts being murdered, we are in for a huge battle.
The attention to detail with characters like Kelly who with a lack of hearing has a much improved sense ability being able to tell the horde is on the way, other small details like the scurrying rats increases the suspense.
The final 10 mins of the episode is a walker bloodbath as they approach the electric fences set up by Eugene and the barbered wire barely holding them off the Hilltop Walls. The whisperers are smart and stay behind the dead as they shoot gasoline and fire arrows towards the survivors sending the community and side characters up in the flames.
The episode is slow but all the dialogue and pacing really shows how Angela Kang has saved the show and I wouldn't even say this is the best of the season, one of the best as a whole
10/10
The Walking Dead: Stalker (2020)
The horror vibes
Since The Walking Dead aired there had not been many episodes on the show that was scary and that is disappointing for a horror show but this was hella fun.
Daryl is searching for a different way to enter the cave and comes across Alpha and a few whisperers lurking, probably attracted from Carol and her dynamite. He stalks them silently sneaking through the woods and the two have a brutal face off. Alpha is impaled with a tree branch and takes several stab wounds and Daryl has a sharp knife stuck in his leg, both really injured and unable to fight each other. Lydia shows up refusing to put Alpha out of her misery and Saves Daryl.
Meanwhile in Alexandria, Gamma has arrived and nobody trusts her so she's thrown into the cell. A whisperer decoy attracts most of the residents leaving only a few within the walls as Beta emerges from the grounds due to a tunnel that Dante and other whisperers had created. He then creeps through the streets, house to house and slaughters the survivors waiting for them to turn. He kills Laura by breaking her back against the cell walls, He even enters the Grimes house forcing Judith to use the signature weapon, Ricks revolver. He gets into another fight with Rosita but fails and Gabriel scares him off into the night.
This episode was well and truly creepy and both storylines were entertaining and thrilling, Beta became Michael Myers and Daryl went from hunter to the hunted, one of the best of the season. The cinematography, atmosphere and gore was a 10/10 as usual lately and the episode as a whole too.
The Walking Dead: The World Before (2019)
Expected more
Whereas this isn't a bad episode of Walking Dead by any means, it's sure not the best and is a bit lacklustre for a mid-season finale.
Michonne sets sail with a new guy named Virgil who lives on an island with a navy base trying to get back to his family after searching for supplies, in return from michonnes help she will gain weapons to take down Alphas horde.
Rosita has to put down walker Siddiq and after a funeral, Gabriel savagely kills Dante stabbing him multiple times. Eugene also tells Rosita his new home is at Hilltop.
Aaron and Gamma continue their meets, they both exchange information and eventually the group find out where the horde is so a small group go looking.
Carol is baited by Alpha in the woods and the whole group gets trapped in a cave by hundreds and thousands of walkers.
Summoning up those points makes the episode sound really good but Carol is beginning to annoy me, the war still hasn't begun and we don't get any Negan or Beta, just more set up.
The Walking Dead: Open Your Eyes (2019)
I knew it
So just like last weeks episode, I've been enjoying Season 10 just as much as 9 but from the promo I felt this could be boring filler and yet again I was very wrong.
The smallest storyline of the episode was between Aaron and Gamma who keep meeting up with each other where they talk plans about both communities, get to know intel. Alpha eventually discovers what Gamma has been doing so she gets punished.
Carol and Daryl interrogate the whisperer they took hostage but get no information, Carol tries to display Lydia to him as he and the others think Alpha killed her however he is poisoned by a herb. Gamma discovers of her existence instead and Lydia crosses the border, but why?
Finally the big thing from tonight's episode, Siddiq still dealing with the pike deaths. His acting in tonight's episode in my opinion deserves an Emmy. The sickness bug is still getting out of hand, it kills one of the elderly residents. Siddiq eventually discovers it's the water and for a different reason other than the contaminated creek so we will let Aaron off on this one. We see some gruesome flashbacks to when DJ and Enid lose their heads and it finally comes to a closure that this whole time...... Dante was a whisperer!
He forced Siddiq to watch the beheadings and when Siddiq figures it out Dante strangles him to death.
This episode is beautifully shot, acted and directed and deserves 10/10 stars.
The Walking Dead: Bonds (2019)
Low expectations, better than the expectation
I have to say I have really enjoyed Season 10 so far, 9 set the show back on it's original path in great ways exceeding the few couple of seasons before it and became one of my favourites. 10 I still feel the same way if not better, as a comic reader I knew what kind of storylines would be happening and from seeing sneak peeks and promos I was little worried thinking this would be the return of the filler episodes..... I was wrong!
I'll cover the smaller parts of episode first, that being Siddiq and Dante dealing with the sickness bug spreading throughout Alexandria and Eugene coming into a contact over the radio.
As for the Eugene part I expected it to be a slow burn but I actually felt intrigued and couldn't leave the room and for once this doesn't sound like a shady villain speaking who the group will probably deal with in the upcoming seasons, a new threat?
The PTSD is still affecting Siddiq in big ways, is he hiding something? Him and new doc Dante are trying to help the residents overcome a rapidly spreading bug and nobody knows what the cause could be, is this the water we saw Gamma infecting last episode and if so why hasn't Aaron mentioned anything yet?
Now the two stories that matter, Daryl and Carols mission and Negan meeting the Whisperers.
Carol sets off on a mission to find Negan, Daryl joins her in which it's revealed she's not looking for Negan but Alphas herd in hopes of destroying it. They both go ahead with this suicidal plan, Daryl is forced to do the guts trick whilst Carol captures a whisperer taking it hostage.
Negan being Negan doesn't shut up so he's gunna struggle adapting to the whisperers way of life, he irritates Beta who wants to kill him the whole episode but can't due to following Alphas orders. He is put to the test, skins some walkers and kills a pig before cooking it but can't have a piece of bacon and is instead thrown to the ground like a rag doll by Beta. Beta then kills the whisperer that is nice to Negan and leaves him for dead in which he returns to the camp where he kneels in front of Alpha telling her he'll do what it takes to become a whisperer.
The Walking Dead: What It Always Is (2019)
Best one yet
I'm glad this season has had a bigger focus on Negan than 9 did and it is clearly shown in this episode but let's talk about the other things first.
The big reveal is that Ezekiel discovers he has cancer, easily treatable but not in the apocalypse.
Kelly's hearing has gotten progressively worse, this results in losing food to some walkers and almost dying until dog finds her. Speaking of which Daryl and Connie have another cute moment when he tells her a story about Merle
Finally let's talk about Negan, and the psycho freak Brandon who didn't actually let him out. He has some crazy obsession about Negan, he tries to find a new sanctuary, become a saviour and even makes a new Lucille for Negan as well as giving him his old leather jacket. He kills a mother and his son and Negan doesn't like this so he smashes his head with a rock and at the end discovers beta!
