Fallout (2024)
A pleasant, yet welcomed surprise
Before the series aired I never had much interest in watching since I never played the games despite being a big gamer. Thought it would just be another dud like the Halo series on Paramount.
After seeing positive reviews on social media I decided to give the show a watch and low and behold, I got hooked.
The show has action, humor, good acting and beautiful shots. And best of all, the plot is very intriguing and gets better after each episode along with the writing that makes you care about the two main characters.
The show is not perfect, but I would definitely recommend it. I look forward to season 2 and really think Prime has something special here if they expand on the "good" of the show.
8.6/10.
Dune (2021)
Much better when you know what's going on
When I first watched this two years ago, I remember feeling kind of disappointed and also like I wasn't able to understand what was going on. I went in expecting your typical sci-fi movie and I had no idea what Dune was about.
Then Dune 2 marketing began and a couple weeks before the movie, I wanted to give it another try and I read some more info on the first movie so I better understood the context of everything. After rewatching with more info, it drastically changed my rating of the film and I was able to enjoy it a lot more.
Yes it is a slow movie, but that's because it's fully fleshing out the characters, the world, the politics and the atmosphere of Arrakis. Not a lot of films take their time and it ends up feeling rushed so I appreciate the slower pace. After all, this is just part one of the Dune book and part 2 is the second half of it so it really is just one big movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Thank you, James Gunn
I am so glad James Gunn was given the chance to make the GOTG trilogy because he made me love the guardians when I first thought it was "stupid" of Marvel to make a movie involving a talking raccoon and tree. My 14 year old self thought it had no shot at being successful. I was wrong.
Guardians of The Galaxy 3 is a beautiful and perfect ending to the trilogy. Each and every character has their arc completed in an amazing way. The film is truly unique and surprising pretty dark at times, something Marvel rarely does. The CGI is great and a joy to watch. Watching in IMAX was great and I want to see it again to experience it all over.
This is one of Marvel's best films and definitely has its own vibe and differs itself from all the other marvel movies, even the other Guardian movies. It's dark and sad at times but still finds perfect moments to input that comedy we all know and love from the GOTG.
Take notes Marvel.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 24: The Return (2023)
A decent ending to a rather underwhelming season
My first reaction without re-watching season 3 is that the season was pretty underwhelming. My expectations were high for this season since season 2 was very enjoyable and was some of the best Star Wars content I've seen. But unfortunately this season seemed very uncoordinated and kind of messy. It seems like it was just used to move the Mandalorian clan and Bo Katan's story forward.
I also thought Moff Gideon return was poorly done and made him weaker as a character. He comes back for 2 episodes and then dies? He says he will deal with the Mandalorians, has them all trapped in a box and even has Din captured and nothing happens. He expected just two guards to be able to handle Din? Cmon now. He knows damn well what he is capable of after dealing with him for the first two seasons.
But let's have that slide. Maybe he had a lot of faith in these new troopers. Moff Gideon has a tracker on Din and has a plan to deal with him. Nope! Let's have Din walk through the bay of cloned force sensitive Moff Gideons' and then be pisses when he presses a few button and destroys them all. This just makes Moff Gideon look like a complete idiot, he has a tracker on Din and sees he is in the cloning lab or sees him heading there and just does nothing until a couple minutes after.
Oh and now it appears the another huge plot line that was going on in the show (using Grogu's DNA for cloning) was interacted with for a total of less than 10 minutes this season and then Din finished the plot line in 20 seconds by pressing a couple of buttons. Very underwhelming.
Anyways, was the season terrible? No. Was it enjoyable? Yes it was. But it was the worst of the three seasons and wasn't close to the quality of the other two. I'm sure they wanted to save some things for future projects that are coming out or had to change certain things for Book of Boba Fett or other projects, but I hope season 4 can return to the high quality we saw in seasons 1 & 2. This episode was the second best this season but there was not much competition.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 22: Guns for Hire (2023)
Felt like a bad episode of Book of Boba Fett
Remember those cringy episodes in BOBF when episodes seemed like they didn't belong in the Star Wars universe? Well this episode was one of those.
Jack black, Lizzo and Christopher Lloyd all star in this episode and basically have the episode revolve around them. Unfortunately it felt like it took away from the episode because they just didn't belong. Take for example Bill Burr, his character was great and he seemed to just fit the character.
Other than the characters, the story for this episode was a tad boring as Bo and Djin go out to look for Bo Katan's old crew, but instead get side tracked (of course) and are asked to fix a droid issue. Djin kicks a few robots, one of them starts running away and eventually gets shot by Bo Katan. After doing so, they find out the ex-imperial droid was purposely malfunctioning because of Christopher Lloyd's character being a Doku loyalist. This side quest doesn't really do anything for the plot as a whole and was just created to have other famous people Star in the show.
My other gripe is how Djin just gives Bo Katan the dark saber. Why didn't he just give it to her after he was rescued by her? There was no way of knowing they would team up and go on a journey together at that point or that Bo would accept the invite into the clan. If Djin truly thought she deserved/earned the Dark saber he would have given it to her on the spot.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
As far as action movies go, John Wick 4 is top tier
Another addition to the John Wick series and it does not disappoint. I admit, I was kind of weary of the John Wick series after John Wick 3 was alright in my opinion. The action scenes were good and impressive as always but it felt a bit off.
John Wick 4 somehow tops their already impressive and world class stunts and action scenes from the past movies and shows everyone else in Hollywood how it is done. Pistols? Yep. Shotguns with flaming bullets? Yes. Nunchucks? Hell yes. Even a pencil is used to injure a man in this movie. It has everything.
However, is this movie perfect? No. Some of the action scenes go on a little too long, similar to John Wick 3. The scenes are still cool and very enjoyable but a little too much of anything is bad. There was also a few points or even a bunch of points where John should have been badly injured to the point where he should not have been able to move. Example : jumping out a 4-5 story window, landing on a car and getting up 10 seconds later. I thought it was awesome, but even someone as awesome as John Wick isn't just getting up from that.
I also would have liked to see some more background on Mr. Nobody and Caine and more of their stories, but that didn't really take away from the film and it was more of a nitpick by me as to why the movie didn't get a 10/10 from me.
John Wick 4 will go down as one of the best action movies of all time and will be the standard going forward. Hats off to Keanu Reaves and everyone who made this film. They achieved what they set out to do and that was to make a kick-ass action movie. Well done.
Creed III (2023)
Decent
After having watched all the Rocky movies in the past month I knew I had to see the new Creed movie since it's connected to the Rocky story.
I enjoyed the first two Creeds when they came out so I expected another solid installment of the series. And this movie did not disappoint. Johnathon Majors was great and Michael B Jordan was great as well. Though some things just didn't feel fleshed out enough.
My first gripe with the film is, where the hell is Rocky? He was a big part of the film two films and you barely even mention him at all in these movies when he is the reason these movies are even being made?! Very disappointing.
The storyline was solid but after thinking about it, Damian is suddenly a renown athlete and boxer after being away for 18 years behind bars. He's able to beat the champ right off the bat? Cmon that's a bit too far stretched, no matter how good he was 18 years ago.
They also kept mentioning Adonis's age like he was some sort of old man, similar to how in Rocky Balboa (2006) they kept brining up his age. But Adonis is no older than 36 and he definitely doesn't look like he's past 30 so it just felt odd to be pushing the "old" narrative.
The thing I loved about the Rocky movies is how Rocky took a bad beating in every film and it truly felt like he was on the ropes and you could feel his exhaustion and pain through the screen. In Creed 3, I didn't feel that way at all. There's two scenes where we see Adonis in pain and they last 10 seconds each and It just felt like he didn't face any adversity when it came to fighting.
Overall I like the movie. It was not perfect but a nice movie to see. 7.3/10 would be my rating. Rocky > Creed.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 17: The Apostate (2023)
Nothing special. Just getting the ball rolling.
The episode starts off with what seems like a flashback of a ritual with the Mandalorians which leads to a fight against some sort of giant alligator that causes a fire fight lasting several minutes before Djin comes in and saves the day.
After this he speaks to the armorer and she reiterates to Djin that he broke the code and he is Mandalorian no more (she already said this in Book Of Boba Fett so I assume they're just saying it again for those who didn't watch that show). Djin tells her he will redeem himself which officially gets his redemption arc rolling.
The episode was a bit underwhelming in the action scenes (which felt a little forced and unnecessary) but the episode accomplished what it set out to do, which was setting the ground work for season 3.
I wish they released two episodes to begin the season because the first episode did feel a little short since 10/30 minutes was just people shooting blasters, but oh well. Looking forward to the next episode.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023)
Another disappointment
When I saw all these negative reviews I thought people were just being pessimistic or just nit picking. Unfortunately, they were right. I wanted to like this movie and I was pretty excited going in. I didn't expect a life changing movie but I expected a solid marvel movie, the movies we got leading up to Endgame.
Just like most of the other shows/movies to come out after Endgame, Antman 3 is underwhelming. For most of the movie it felt like the protagonists were just running around with everything blowing up around them. And all we heard about was how big and bad Kang was. Janet was petrified of him and said how advanced his technology was and how no one could even imagine it's power.
We finally meet Kang and at first he seemed intimidating but at the end of the movie he is defeated by ants. Yes you read that correctly, he was defeated by giant ants. The man who is suppose to be bigger and badder than Thanos was defeated by Ants. The man who claimed multiple times that he killed Avengers before was defeated by insects.
And at the climax of the movie when Scott says he doesn't have to win, Kang just has to lose, he destroys the portal back to earth by eliminating Kang with the core. Cassy yells out and it seems like Antman and Hope are stuck in the quantum realm. NOPE, 30 seconds later Cassy just builds another portal so Scott can return. It just takes away from Scott because he basically didn't sacrifice anything. He literally won against Kang.
I'll stop there, but this movie is in the bottom tier of Marvel movies and was clearly made just to move along the Kang story. Kang doesn't appear to be anywhere near Thanos' level but I still have hope that Marvel can get their act together and make better movies and shows going forward. Or maybe that's just the nostalgia talking.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Visually and Emotionally Enjoyable
I'll keep this short but this was a nice sequel to the first entry in the series. The cgi is stunning, the characters are further developed and they even add in some quality characters as well.
The film is a little too long, but that's because of Cameron taking his time with the scenic scenes, which are nice to look at.
Even the return of the same villain is enjoyable with the development of the colonel taken in steps I did not see coming.
My only complaint, which is me absolutely nitpicking, is this film doesn't quite wrap up the ending as well as the first one. But I believe this is because Disney and Cameron are banking on fleshing our future films for Avatar so they are leaving it wide open for at least one more film and probably two more.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and I really liked the first one. I'm definitely going to rewatch when it comes to streaming services and most likely will get the UHD Blu-ray to show off my OLED. Not quite as good as the first Avatar but it comes real close.
7.8/10.
Bullet Train (2022)
Fun and enjoyable
This movie is fun and enjoyable. The characters are very likeable and differentiate themselves from one another.
I'd give the film a 7.3/10. It's a straight up non-sense sometimes but it's this movie isn't going for realism.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Too much of anything is bad
It pains me to write this review because I really wanted to love this movie and I really enjoyed Thor Ragnorak, but this movie just wasn't good.
Before going into the movie I was interested in what people were saying about it and saw a ton of people comment on the amount of jokes. They were so right. It felt like there was a joke every 30 seconds. They were barely any serious parts in the movie and in my opinion it really hurt the movie. Marvel usually does an excellent job with balancing the jokes in their movies, but Love N Thunder just over does it completely.
Also, why did Endgame make it appear as though the GOTG and Thor were going to be a team for the foreseeable future? The Guardians were basically not in the movie and it was definitely disappointing for me.
The pacing also felt kinda odd in my opinion. It felt like it picked up and slowed down and kept repeating this.
Overall, I didn't hate this movie but I had high hopes going into it and felt dissatisfied afterwards. The jokes and pacing were big complaints of mine but there was some decent parts to this movie's.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part VI (2022)
Decent ending to a underwhelming show
This episode has some strong points, but just like the rest of the show, it has a good amount of points that feel lifeless and just forced. Feels cheesy and just not made with love.
Last episode : 7.5/10
Series as a whole : 6.7/10.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Four episodes through and it's clear this show was created strictly to generate revenue
I had such high hopes for this show and I really wanted to love it but it's just so obvious this show has a weak story line and was just created to make some money.
Young Leia is honestly just annoying. Nothing against the actor herself , but the way she is written is just her trying to be witty, brave and acting than she actually is.
The show is just cat and mouse. They capture Leia, then lose her. They catch her once again and then lose her once again. Come on, Disney it's just a weak and pathetic plot.
The only positive thing I can say about the show is how mentally crippled Obi wan is and how hard this toll has been on him. But even at times it can be hard to watch him. For example, in episode 4 Leia and Obi Wan are walking through the inquisitor base with Leia walking next to obi while under neath his uniform. Again, come on Disney, this detail is just pathetic. Someone would definitely notice someone hiding under Neath a uniform and someone would definitely notice Obi Wans face when he's probably the empires biggest target at the moment.
I hope the show can end strongly with the last two episodes, but I know it will most likely be a predictable ending and it'll pain me to give the episodes poor reviews. They really need to deviate away from the skywalker saga.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
Solid but not perfect
Through two episodes I am pleased with the show so far. You can see a depressed Obi Wan who is currently all out of confidence and is battling his inner demons. I really like how Ewan Mcgregor is portraying this beaten down Kenobi. The show also looks beautiful and the towns look alive and cgi is nicely done.
However, i think it's very silly how Leia is able to outrun multiple bounty hunters and even Obi Wan. I understand this show is entirely fake and they have to stretch certain things, but It's obvious those chasing after her could catch up to her with ease.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Weird, unusual, unique, and messy
This movie definitely has Raimi's fingerprints all over it. The movie is very different from all the other marvel films we have seen. It is definitely the darkest movie in the MCU and for the first time has horror elements in a bunch of scenes.
The movie is entertaining, but definitely not marvel's greatest film. The flow of the movie was not great and I felt as though the film introduced a little too much without explanation. It felt a little choppy at times and I felt like Wanda just completely undid her redemption in WandaVision.
Overall, this film did some good things and did some bad things. The cameos were very good and *that* fight scene is definitely top notch. I'd give the film a 7.3/10.
Doctor Strange (2016)
Upper tier of the MCU
When I first watched doctor strange I did not love it. I thought It was an alright movie and didn't really care for Dr. Strange. In the past year I've rewatched the movie twice and I can say that this movie is def one of the better movies Marvel has put out.
The movie looks INCREDIBLE. And is arguably one of the best, if not the best, looking MCU movies. The cgi is top notch.
Cumberbatch does a great job with Steven Strange and immediately became one of the best in the MCU. The movie overall has good acting and it just flows well. The story is good but my favorite part is the message behind the movie. I think it is something we can all relate to.
Rating : 7.7/10 - highly recommended.
Morbius (2022)
Sub par
I'll be straight to the point. If you're expecting a "good" movie you will surely be disappointed. This is a subpar comic book movie and towards the bottom of all the comic book movies.
Euphoria: A Thousand Little Trees of Blood (2022)
Good episode with some minor faults
A very good episode that had me entertained from start to finish. It felt like a season 1 episode since it focuses on a few story lines rather than a million.
But I noticed two things with the episode. The first being Kats and Ethan's storyline. For season 2 we have barely seen Kat or Ethan. For this episode was finally see them and they're breaking up already. I would have liked to see the interactions between them leading up to the break up rather than hearing Kat mention her displeasure for 30 seconds two episodes ago and then jumping straight to breaking up.
The second thing is Fez and Lex relationship. So we saw them first interact with each other in the first episode of season 2 and they clearly had a thing for each other. The next episode we see Lex visit Fez at his store and then from that point on we didn't see them together at all. Then in this episode we seen them hanging out and Lex venting to Fez about her life and then they sing "Stand By Me" as they hold hands. Did they interact at all before this? It just seemed odd to me they had a short interaction at a party and the store and now Lex is venting about her life to Fez.
I love the show and I'm absolutely nit picking it here but I believe they should add some time to episodes to try and fit in some details for these other relationships.
Peacemaker (2022)
Surprisingly entertaining
When they first announced the show I thought it wouldn't have much potential, but I was wrong. The show has some solid characters you grow fond of and is always making me laugh here and there.
John Cena does an amazing job as Peacemaker and truly makes the show. This is one of the better products DC has put out recently and I recommend watching if you're trying to watch something that isn't serious and will make you laugh along the way.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Underwhelming
After phenomenal episodes in 5&6 I was expecting a great season finale. Well i was very dissatisfied. Feels messy, cheap, and doesn't feel like Star Wars.
I wondered how they could possibly mess this up, but then I looked at who directed the episode. Robert Rodriguez. The three worst episodes of this show were directed by him and they all had the same feel. That's all you need to know.
Euphoria: Stand Still Like the Hummingbird (2022)
Finally!
Finally an episode that isn't all over the place! This episode had me holding my breathe for practically the entire thing. Though I will say, the chase scene with Rue and the police was a little ridiculous, but whatever who cares so is this entire show.
While being thrilling, dramatic, and sad, this episode pushes the storyline along quite nicely. What will happen to Rue? What will happen to Cassie? What will happen to Nate? And many more questions have now appeared and I can't wait to see how this season pans out.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger (2022)
Great episode but....
I feel like this episode could have used another 10-15 minutes. The training scenes with Luke and grogu seemed kinda quick, like talking about yoda and other life lessons seemed somewhat rushed and I would have liked to have seen more of Grogu's past memory.
But it was an enjoyable episode and furthers the storyline.
Euphoria: You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can (2022)
So much going on
A good episode but I feel like each episode of the season besides episode 1 has so much going on and it's kinda hard to keep track.
This past episode we see so many different stories going on. Rue's drug problem, Elliot and Jules relationship, Nate and Cassie's relationship, Nate and Maddie's relationship, Cal Jacobs' relationship with himself, Cal Jacob's relationship with his family, a small glimpse of KAT'a relationship turmoil with Ethan, Rue and Jules having tension, and a tiny bit of what's to come with Fez's situation with mouse's death.
The episode was just bouncing around and I feel like they should add time or episodes to pace things better. I still enjoy the show thought.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm (2022)
Ascending to the peak
A solid episode that pretty much wraps up bobas backstory on how he came to show up in Mandalorian.
With some really cool action sequences, added depth for boba, and a cliffhanger with some foreshadowing I'm really excited for next weeks episode. It seems the show is about to take off.
