Cemetery Gates - 8 out of 10 ain't bad
6 June 2006
Not meant to be the next "great" horror film, but does deliver on gore, shtick and humor. Reggie and the rest of the cast do a decent job of bringing out a somewhat "Evil Dead" kind of horror/humor film, and the director does an excellent job a creating a fast paced, fun movie. My only complaint about "Cemetary Gates" would be the "monster", in closeups it is pretty good, when you see it full figure galloping through the woods it was really bad. If you like horror for being horror this is a great movie to kick back and enjoy with a cold beer and pizza. If you want a horror movie that would qualify for an Academy Award, then you are not really interested in a real horror film... are you? Take a chance and see it, it is worth a viewing and at the very least you will be entertained for a while, while seeing one of the funniest horror/humor moments in recent memory (Howard Berger sees the monster in cartoon form thanks to being whacked on peyote- classic stuff here folks)

WOW - Impressive start to the trilogy

I haven't seen many foreign horror films, but this Russian masterpiece delivers on many different levels. The cinematography is as good if not better than many U.S. studio releases. The plot, although cumbersome at times to keep up with, is well thought out and imaginative. The acting is top notch and the effects are awesome. After watching it for the first time you want to go back and see it again and again to catch some of the plot points and happenings, it is worth several viewings in my opinion. I can't wait to see the next two installments - Day Watch and Dusk Watch. It should be interesting to see where the story goes. And the story is absorptive and compelling, it really holds your interest. Definitely one that H-Wood should take a look at and try to emulate in their new horror genre films they are making, this import actually has merit and story whereas most (not all- just most) of the the newer H-Woof fare is rehashed trash with no imagination what so ever

Dark Walker (2003 Video)

It is a "B" movie people, it is supposed to be what it is - Fun

I thought for the money invested it was a great little film. The plot was clever, without being overdone, and the cinematography was really good considering the budget. The effects were well done also, without looking too cheap (remember - "B" movie). If you want a fun movie for a dark night with a loved one this will do the job. No ... it's not an Oscar contender, but it is far better than most of the big budget horror garbage H-Wood throws our way currently. I love good horror movies and this title delivers - silly, fun, dark and entertaining. I thought the acting was also better than that in several of the most recent H-Wood releases, and a big BOO' shout out to Chuckie Williams - one of the nicest guys in the industry, and not a bad actor as the Dark Walker monster himself. A job well done.
