Leonard Part 6 (1987)
Honestly, not as bad as everyone thinks. Not even cosby.
Let me start by clarifying that I suppose this movie is "bad" when compared to apparently what "good" movies are. Movies like citizen kane for example, supposedly hailed as "the greatest movie of all time". So, in other words good movies are supposed to be dramatic pieces that invoke feelings, have great set pieces, and superb acting.
But why? Why does a movie need all these things to be "good"? You know what I think would be better? To rate a movie based on how "entertaining" it is to a wide, nay the WIDEST audience.
That's what this movie is to me. Entertaining. It is an absurdist comedy of the highest degree in my opinion. You like movies like Hot shots, the kentucky fried movie, or hell, jackass? You'd probably like this movie. I mean heck, the funniest scene I found (or at least the one that made me laugh the most) was the hilariously absurd scene in which an army (or is it troop?) of frogs, LITERALLY HOP a car with their combined might into a river, killing the agent inside, as well as the notion that cosbys character is SO INCREDIBLY RICH he has not only an evian tap but PERRIER as a tap for his shower. Imagine that. Showering with PERRIER. How hilariously absurd is that?
Something else I found was that i believe cosby was channeling woody allen in his role. If you've ever seen the kinds of comedies allen did in his heyday, you'd know what i mean.
Additionally, I can easily see where the budget for the movie went to, as the movie is actually really well shot and made. The set pieces for one thing, but also I would imagine the cost for all the animals involved in the movie was extremely high as well.
I can also understand why cosby himself would downplay the movie. Do the anti-marketing he did. It's because most people watching this wouldn't understand it, certainly not when the movie was made. But in this day and age, when much MUCH worse movies have been made, I feel this one should get something of a repreieve. Because the worst thing a movie can be, is boring and not entertaining.
In summary, don't go into this movie expecting a serious drama. Instead, go into the movie expecting something you'd see in mad magazine, or national lampoon, come to life.
Suburbicon (2017)
Red Herring the movie
Just finished watching the movie. I want to get out first and foremost that the whole scenario with the black family, and the way they are treated, is entirely backdrop. Not only backdrop, but a giant red herring to distract you from the actual plot of the movie. I saw a trailer for this in theater, and I thought at that time the movie was about something evil going on in the town, which main character had to figure out and deal with.
Turns out that's a giant NOPE!
So, since this does contain spoilers, let me explain the plot.
Everyday man Gardner Lodge lives in suburbicon with his wife Rose, and her sister the name of which escapes me. Rose happens to be in a wheelchair, which she says was caused by an "accident" (note the quotations, i'll explain shortly)and that her husband was driving. Now, at this point in the movie I didnt realize she was the wife of Gardner. I thought his wife was her sister, and that Rose was the aunt with a dead husband (having died in the accident).
Later on a "break-in" happens (again note the quotations)with the end result of rose being killed. This is witnessed through the eyes of Gardners son, who actually is the main character in the movie, NOT gardner! We get some tense moments throughout the movie, including harsh treatment by a neighboring family to the gardners, who happen to be black.
I just want to emphasize again, that this whole subplot with the black family is a backdrop, there to grab your attention, and possibly direct it away from the actual plot.
Later on, we find the killers confront gardner in his office, demanding money from him. Shortly after, we see an insurance claims investigator make some accusations with Roses sister, (who i might add Gardner has the hots for). You start to piece the puzzle together by this point, and can basically predict the end.
So basically, even though its not implicitly stated, I feel that what happened is Gardner attempted to kill his wife via car accident. Failed, leaving her wheelchair bound. He then hired two guys to kill her instead, staging it as a break-in. They of course, want to be compensated for it which leads to what happens in the movie. Theres other plot threads which are left dangling, such as how Gardner "used up his life savings in order to start his own business" But either that wasn't fully explained, Or I didnt get the connection. Something about a loan shark maybe?
TL;DR Guy hires some guys to kill his wife against the backdrop of racial profiling and hatred, chaos ensues.
Power Rangers (2017)
A great movie for fans of the series, but also should serve as an introduction to new fans
So okay. I will admit right now, if you have ZERO EXPERIENCE with power rangers in any way, shape, or form then there might be some slight confusion. But, honestly the movie I feel does a great job of explaining everything! It's just, if you have the experience it greatly enhances the movie viewing experience.
Now, I have read some movie reviews of this, and one reviewer in particular lamented (hated) the fact that the characters don't morph until the last act. Like, this is legit an over two hour long movie and it shows. But, at the same time the pacing is done extremely well! Hell, the beginning of the movie we are introduced to Jason, who is apparently pulling a prank involving a cow? Because LOL Who knows why. Best funniest scene in the movie to me is this, but specifically when the cops show up they all are like OH CRAP. Yes. EVEN THE COW PULLS AN OH CRAP LOOK
See, because this is a movie (one with a long run time which helps!) we, as a viewing audience, are allowed to experience more of the backstory of these characters. They are fleshed out, some more than others. (cough billy cough) Actually right now I'm gonna point out two gripes I have with the movie. Really the only two I have.
1: The characters that have "issues" (trini being gay, billy being an autistic) aren't actually Referenced in the movie. Its as if they show evidence that "yes" there is something going on here, but its not DIRECTLY pointed out. I mean okay yeah, one of the characters being bi/lesbian/whatever should probably be kept more on the down-low, lest we get complaints from parents. But why not Billy? Why not have him explain what he actually suffers from? Because, if he is autistic? Dudes the highest functioning autistic I've ever seen. Personally, I believe he suffers from something else. Similar to autism, but different. Maybe Aspergers? 2: HUGE Deus Ex Machina. Basically the entire thing with the zords randomly becoming the megazord for seemingly no reason? Idk i guess the zords maybe did it themselves out of self-preservation.
So, besides that this movie ticks off various boxes for current gen action/adventure films WITHOUT being boring.
Basically to more fully understand it, watch the movie. You wont be disappointed. Unless you have a predilection to be disappointed by these kinds of movies. You know who you are.

Why so much hate?
First off, I would like to commend the film and it makers for achieving what has been done here, on a budge of only 250 THOUSAND dollars.
For making a movie, especially one done such as this, with NO CGI and only practical stunts is especially daunting.
I doubt anyone knows how much it costs to make a movie, especially in this day and age. But thats all besides the point.
I believe that everyone that hates this movie, or that finds it boring, because of either the dialogue, or the "supposed" T and A (since when does depicitng women in bra and underwear count as nudity?) are missing the point.
And that is realism.
That, more than anything else is what made this movie enjoyable for me.
Believeablity, should be the thing horror movies aim for. Like, if you yourself can't picture this happening to you, or believe that the characters are real, then why should you be scared for them? Heres an example: Early in the movie, one of the characters is (for unexplained reasons) in bra and panties. We the viewers can see her shivering, because SHE IS LEGITIMATELY COLD.
In conclusion, I feel the dialogue and the pacing all mesh with what one would expect to actually happen in a situation such as we found the characters having gotten into.
Also, Kane hodder in the movie is a blessing, considering this movie is I believe THE TRUE successor to what Friday the 13th aimed (and achieved) back when it was made.
10/10
Shi po tian jian (1973)
A kung fu movie that defies all kung fu movie convention.
Okay so first let me start off by saying that this movie defies all known logic of kung fu movies.
First, we have a main character who beats the crap out of guys in the beginning of the movie, as opposed to getting his ass beat as is the norm.
Fast forward a bit, and he's suddenly getting his ass kicked by random guys he should be kicking the ass of.
Fast forward even more, and after getting his ass beat by the main villain, he finds a new inner strength (and glowy hands) by breaking his dads headstone for some reason. AND HE STILL GETS HIS ASS KICKED ANYWAY.
Finally he somehow manages to kill the main villain and get revenge (as per the norm in kung fu movies)...and GETS FREAKING ARRESTED FOR KILLING PEOPLE.
Yes you heard that correct. A kung fu movie hero GETS ARRESTED for and I quote "taking the law into his own hands".

Underrated comedy
Having just finished watching this movie, I can understand the divided reviews. Those that hate this movie, are those who can't stand stupid comedies. That is what this movie is 100 percent.
If you like those kinds of movies, (movies like say, Bio Dome or even dare i say, Chairman Of The Board) Then you will like this movie.
I actually consider myself to be a middle ground type of person. I enjoy "stupid" comedies. I suppose this would be because i mostly can ignore plots, and obvious flaws and instead, enjoy the action that is going on. I also enjoy various other kinds of movies, even "serious" ones, which are probably the only kinds of movies that most of the negative reviewers enjoy.
So yes, I found the idea of a horse named "Horny Hal" which ends up humping a statue of a horse funny.
Or the idea of Ex wrestler "Chyna" (who goes by her real name of Joanie Laurer in the credits) as a reverse of the character she portrayed in Wrestling. As a wrestler, she portrayed a manly woman. Here, well...lets just say she is probably the only woman who could pull of looking like she used to be a man.
Anyway, if you like slapstick humor, or corny jokes, or pointing out celebrities (you'd be surprised at the amount of famous (at the time) actors and comedians in this movie!) You'll like this movie.
And if you're wondering why I'm not even going into the plot of the movie, it's because as i stated above, i largely ignored the plot and instead focused on what was going on in the movie.

Way of the exploding fist.....
Those who think this movie has a boring start are seriously mistaken. This movie has lots of kung fu fighting action throughout the entire movie. Add in a nice training segment and a spectacular ending (which gives literal meaning to "way of the exploding fist") makes for an entertaining movie. The only downside is that main character Dragon Lee doesn't look or sound as tough as i've seen him in some of his other movies. You'll notice this throughout the movie as well as in the final fight of the movie.
Also as a bonus on this particular tape, trailers for two movies are shown afterwards. One is for a movie called Mantis vs Eagle Claw and the other is another Dragon Lee movie, Martial Monks of Shaolin Temple.
8 out of 10 for me.
Zhi zun wei long (1977)
Wacky Cartoonish Kung Fu Action!
OK. How to explain this one....well the word wacky comes to mind. For most of the movie we have two guys as the good guys, one of whom is a giant of a man! Then there's the chick with the small/bound feet that gets kidnapped.... the lone Japanese guy who gets stripped to his undies.... and that other dude who gets hit so hard he spins around real fast. So fast in fact, that his HEAD GETS TWISTED AROUND! thats right. Twisted. Around. You see the mans back and his face at the SAME TIME! And no I am not making that up either. The ending is also really cool. This is one of those movies that quite literally "have to be seen to be believed".
Bought the movie on recently as part of an 8 pack of movies called WU Tang 8 Diagram collection. It's Highly recommended because it also has a good looking (and subbed to boot!) copy of 8 diagram pole fighter. Also saw the movie Kung Fu Genius (which is another one of the 8 movies) that was also excellent.
Highly Recommended.

The greatest kung fu movie ever! (aka Plan 9 from outer china)
Excellent mix of comedy, fighting, and bad dubbing! Seriously though, any fan of old school kung fu will enjoy this. Enjoy it for the many fights throughout the movie (including a person being killed mere moments into the films beginning!) And for the excellent quality of said fights! No fake fighting to be had here thats for sure. And best of all, there is a bonus commentary track by Ric Meyers of kung fu insider magazine. (who gave the movie the title Plan nine from outer china) In my opinion thats the best part, as I learned stuff about the genre that I never knew before. You also can most likely find this movie cheap. So go out and find a copy for yourself! Look for the Taiseng release as it is the one I own (and has the audio commentary) on DVD.
