I watched it at the movies and enjoyed it very much. Austrian film directors learned how to use striking sound effects and spectacular photography after all. In my opinion, there are too different scenes of action. Some of them, e.g. the artist's castellum, are banal and clichés. There is a single reason why you can shut your eyes to some implausible plot turns and partial bad casting, it's Christiane Hörbiger. Her part is convincingly natural yet worked out to the last detail. Am I wrong or did she get much better over the years?

No painful operetta numbers, no monarchic nostalgia, highly original dialogues and editing - "Jetzt schlägt's 13" is surprisingly refreshing for Austria's cinema of the 1950s. Just because it's so close to a well structured plot, you can't forgive its burlesque story. Two butlers (played hilariously by Theo Lingen and Hans Moser) suspect themselves of being mass murderers at the same time, but due to completely different reasons. Susi Nicoletti and Josef Meinrad did better (and funnier) acting before and after that, but the script helps them to get away with their lack of spirit.
