Madame Web (2024)

I actually liked it
18 February 2024
Listen, this movie is NOT an action-packed superhero film. It's setting up more movies to come.

What it could have done better: it could have spent more time developing its villain and the young women. I know this is Madame Web's movie, but most of the characters felt flat.

What it does well: there are plenty of Easter eggs that make this movie fun. At the end of the day, my wife and I enjoyed the movie. It was also does "girl power" the best by not having it forced down your throat; it's just a movie with some women doing their thing...which they set up to be much more in the future.

I say, give it a chance. I think much of the hate is from social media. It's actually a fun popcorn movie.

Good actors given bad script and terrible pacing
5 February 2024
I expected this to be a combination relationship/action show. My bad for watching the trailer! I did not expect it to be like the movie but actually something a little more down to earth. This show is so far down in the earth that it's dead and buried.

This is a slow-paced art piece. I like the actors in so many other projects. The camera work was great. Everything else fell short for me. The dialogue was horrible, especially in the theater scene. It was too slowly paced.

Amazon is really letting us down lately. Even the shows like Reacher, which had an amazing first season, fell short of the target this year.

Show runners: get rid of Willa!
22 July 2023
It's a good thing the writers are currently on strike; that means you can get new ones when the strike is over! The way they wrote the character Willa is horrible . Please send her back to Florida or whatever.

Vivian, if you read this, please know that this is just your first gig. You have your dad's smile, but you were miscast into this role that is setting you up for a lot of criticism. I can't wait to see you in roles that actually make sense.

The good part of this show is that it still has Timothy Olyphant doing Raylan. There are also some really good supporting actors in this show. I have hope that this show will get better and "justify" itself.

This is what the Cavill prophecy warned us about
26 December 2022
When I read a story online (which I admittedly have not verified) that said a reason for Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher was his dissatisfaction with the way the writing was going, I felt there was some truth to it. There were numerous earlier reports of Cavill being a fan of the books and a walking reference book for the rest of the cast. This show is just a taste of what the Netflix Witcher will be without our Geralt. Beware! The suckage is nigh!

In fairness, I did only make it through one episode. However, it was a chore to do that, and I had little faith that the three remaining episodes would change my mind.

More like A Funeral for Laughter
22 June 2019
I gave it two stars because there were a few funny moments. However, what made Tyler Perry good in the early days is all about gone. Most of the movie was not enjoyable. The plot was predictable. If you think AT ALL, you will find plot holes and issues with characterization. Plus, I find all the talk from older relatives sexualizing younger family members (about how they are attracted to them) disturbing.

I am glad the blu-ray was rented because I am only out the money for the dvd rental.
