Contracted: Phase II (2015)
An interesting approach focusing on the early stages of a zombie pandemic
A slow burn story, portraying the initial phases of what will eventually become an uncontrolled zombie pandemic. An unconventional approach to the zombie genre, but an interesting one nonetheless.
(I personally enjoyed the movie, but with a hazy plot which was poorly consolidated, coupled with mediocre acting at best; I rank it a 4/10 but a 5 would be too much to award, which is a shame actually, because with a little more effort it easily could have been)
Blood Quantum (2019)
A Gem of a movie... We want more!
This movie is definitely not for everyone. Here zombie fans get what they ask for. This movie ticks the boxes & doesn't mess around. It packs a punch and hits its mark.
Unlike so many other movies which try to target a broader audience, by adding drama, comedy, meaningfulness and other crap, thus diluting the zombie experience, this movie stays true to the genre and is therefore intended mainly for pure zombie aficionados.
(I gave it a 7 which is a very high score - an 8 would be in Romero territory, but I think it truly deserves it because: the genre is still alive and well, and with its limited resources it achieved a lot...)
Rabid (2019)
It lost its essence by going somewhere in between...
A good core, but distant and very poorly consolidated. This movie is a mix of extremes; feeling severely detached at times and gripping just moments after. This movie should have either gone big (pandemic wise) or remained contained for more intense drama and focus... it lost its essence by going somewhere in between.
The Dead Don't Die (2019)
No No No...
This movie had the premise, the cast and the budget to make a 'killing'. It could have been great, but it failed horribly.
Zoo (2018)
A very good attempt... but
Simply put: this movie had a good premise and good acting to say the least, for its budget I feel it has accomplished ample. The plot developed steadily with some interesting humor. It dwindles 3/4 of the way, but compensates with a suitable ending. It could have yielded more in terms of action, though it did have an organic feel to it, which made the movie watchable.
(For zombie fans: this film is worth including in your watch list but I cannot give it a higher score than a 5, even though I was really satisfied with the acting... there just wasn't enough substance)
