Moonstruck (1987)
First Time Watching In 2021
For my Digital Media Production course, my assignment was to watch 'Moonstruck' and write down three changes from the script vs the actual movie. I always want to watch this film and I finally got the opportunity (thanks to my Professor and YouTube having the movie for free). All of the actors and actresses portray their characters well. Also, the small changes from the script vs the actual movie makes sense.
Flower Drum Song (1961)
Miyoshiiiiiiiii! Amazing work from the whole cast!
Miyoshi Umeki should've been nominated or even won an Academy Award for her performance in this film. Same thing with Nancy. The whole cast did amazing and I am not a musical fan, but this film touched my spirits. I took one star away due to one of the actors Asian-fishing. Other than that, great film.
Monster (2018)
Good movie, but a few issues
While the movie is good, I have a issue with adults portraying teenagers, especially doing drugs. I know, some teenagers are like that, but not all are and that kind of bothered me. Then, the fact that adults are portraying teenagers is not good too. I would like if Steve (for example) was portrayed at most by a 20 year old then a 21 + year old and the other "teen" characters too. No shade towards the actors, just being realistic here. Also, I appreciated you guys for casting a dark skin Black woman as Steve's love interest. We need to see more of young Black women being love interest in Hollywood films AND shows, so thank you!
Good work from all of the actors, even ASAP Rocky seemed realistic portraying his character. I was surprised that he was going to be good. Well done.
Malcolm & Marie (2021)
Amazing Work from Zendaya, John, and Sam
This film is amazing. The way Zendaya and John did not half ass the scenes kept me from leaving my couch. You can tell the both of them took time to practice and build their emotions throughout the movie. Their chemistry as a couple in this film is top notch; you'll think they are in a REAL relationship. One moment you understand Malcolm's side of the story. While you can also (and DEFINITELY) understand Marie's story.
One moment I am amuse, in shock, laughing, sad, and understanding of both characters struggles.' Sam did an amazing job to balance his screenwriting abilities, plotting (directing), and screening each plot. Sam does not skip the storyline. He goes from A, B, C, D, and then back to A. I honestly do not understand some of the critics rating the movie low because of the screenwriting.
Personally, the screenwriting is amazing. Sam balanced the whole movie that happened inside of the house, outside of the balconies, and the yard. That is not an easy task to fulfill, but he did it. The critics just do not get the movie or how love and envy in a toxic relationship works. Malcolm and Marie show this and that is why the critics are praising the acting. John and Zendaya delivered, which made the film more enjoyable.
Sorry if this is long, I must say how I feel (without spoiling too much) of the film. This film is great and I hope Zendaya, John, Sam, and whoever played apart of the film gets accolades for their work.
10/10 - Highly suggest to watch it. Also, Leave Zendaya and John alone. They are grown adults. I don't care how "young" Zendaya looks to be John's love interest. In real life, I've seen 20 something year olds with guys not even ten years older than them. So stop the fuss.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
Amazing Movie :)
I never thought I would like this movie a lot! This movie shows a message on many important lessons including: exclusivity, not being greedy, not getting fame in your head, and more inspirational messages. Hugh, Zac, Zendaya, Michelle, Keala, and the whole cast did an astonishing job!
Why Did I Get Married? (2007)
Great Tyler Perry Movie
Like 'For Colored Girls,' this maybe my second favorite Tyler Perry movie. From the acting to the story line, I just could not take my eyes off the screen. The fact that I heard Janet Jackson scream and get rambunctious is crazy. I never thought Ms. Jackson would do that and she did. Just like in 'For Colored Girls,' she did that too in 'Why Did I Get Married?'
Jill Scott too put herself in places I did not expect her to do. Overall, all of the actors portrayed their parts amazing. The things discussed in this film is relatable and has numerous meanings to point out... But I am not spoiling anything here. I highly recommend you all to watch this, especially if you have Netflix right now. Or rent it out or something!
Jumping the Broom (2011)
Great film!
Thanks to Netflix, I finally watched this film for the first time. All of the actors portrayed their characters well. I can believe that they are being someone else. The movie plot is pretty well and understandable to follow. The fact that the rating of this movie is low (still) is surprising to me. Before judging by the reviews or just being a biased hater, please checkout the film. Also, if you didn't get it, watch it for a second time. Thanks....
Greenleaf (2016)
Great Show That Is Predominantly Black
Whoever wrote the scripts and directed this show did an awesome job. All of the main casts are extraordinary and know how to act. You can tell they rehearse A LOT for this show. I wished it had more publicity and awards. The creators of the show and actors deserve better. Go check out the show on Netflix or Own; it's WORTH IT!
Ghost (1990)
Meaningful, Charming, &Comedic Movie
This movie is deeper than it looks. Within the first ten - twenty-five minutes of the film I was confused. Then, I realized the male main character passed away, figures it in the hospital/funeral scenes, and realizes that he's a ghost. I don't want to spoil too much details... Check it out for yourselves.
P.S. - All of the actors did great portraying their roles! Especially Patrick, Demi, & Whoopi. No wonder they won prestigious awards; they deserved it.
Marriage Story (2019)
Great Film
Highly recommend this movie. Scarlett J, Adam D, Laura D, Ray L, Alan A, Azhy H, and Martha K did an stupendous job in their roles. I also appreciate the way 'Marriage Story' tries to include diversity, but I wished that one or two people of color had more of a speaking role. Overall, the movie is great. I do not want to say anything to spoil the movie. Go check it out!
Fall Girls (2019)
Decent Movie
The movie isn't bad. Yes, a few of the actors could've been less dramatic in a few parts, but overall they all managed to play their parts convincingly. I would've gave a 10/10 if a few of the criticism in the comments weren't true.
The Naked Brothers Band (2007)
Okay, but Cringeworthy Too
Back when this show came out, me and my older sister would always watched it. Now when the years started passing I realized how "okay, but cringeworthy" the show is. 5/10 is what they deserve.
La esclava blanca (2016)
A Diverse Novella With Disturbing History
This show is spectacular even though it reflects on the disturbing pass of slavery, racism and sexism. Sure, there is more elements of the show that stand out, but I do not want to spoil any of it. The actors, creators and everyone else apart of this project did an astounding job.
Honey: Rise Up and Dance (2018)
Not bad just...
The movie isn't bad, but Mr.Gray needs to step his acting skills in this film. Ms.Taylor clearly was going more harder in this role than him.
The Trap (2019)
Not good enough for 5 stars... Sorry.
The acting with some of the actors is bad and not genuine. Just mediocre and cringeworthy scenes throughout the film. If you like this type of films, go watch it!
Raven's Home (2017)
Great revival show
Once I heard About 'Raven's Home' coming out I immediately became a kid again. That's the ONLY Disney show I watch as of now from the network. They cast everyone accurately in this show and it's not sloppy compare to the other shows that came out in 2018 and 2019.
The Bodyguard (1992)
Iconic and bold
This is what you call a iconic movie about a superstar and her bodyguard soon to be hubby. Great acting from Ms.Houston and Mr.Costner.
One Day at a Time (2017)
Deserve at least two more seasons +
This is a great show and unique too. The show didn't deserve to be canceled by Netflix... Netflix take this L!
That's So Raven (2003)
My childhood!
I loveeeeeee this show so much. I rewatched the episodes for the last few weeks and enjoying every moment of it. Highly recommend this show!
Ma (2019)
Great movie and cast members!
Don't listen to the salty people rating below a 5 star out of 10. They're just mad because a black woman is the leading actress of this thriller. Yes, some of the previews from the movie kind of spoiled a few things, but you have to look at the acting, camera direction, and plot twists throughout the movie that weren't in the previews. A lot of people (including me) in the theater were reacting throughout the movie with humor, fear, gasping, and applauding. Overall, I give the movie a 10/10 and highly recommend people to watch it and I will definitely watch it again if I get the opportunity in the near future.
