Knospen wollen explodieren (2005)
Two girls in a stylish wonderland between friendship and love
The eccentric Kate and the quiet Echo live in a strange, artificial world full of cardboard trees and weird colors. Kate likes men but tends to kill them, but in her desperate love for the egocentric artist Bruno she doesn't succeed. He's busy to attract the attention of a posh art scene public and doesn't want to see her. Her friend Echo on the other hand discreetly loves the happy "Baumarktboy", who sings gay songs about his work and his dreams - and they're really hilarious and witty. But when bad Bruno uses the "Baumarktboy" for one of his art installations the poor and a bit naive boy gets poisoned with a strange black fluid that begins to cover his body. Echo finds him and does the best she can to save his true love... . The whole story is rather strange and sometimes a bit hard to follow, but with a more intuitive approach based on the really beautiful photography you'll get the point easily. Funny, witty, good acting, brilliant music and the unreal fantasy-like setting make it a very unusual little drama-musical-short film and a rare visual experience you should not miss.
Boireau, roi de la boxe (1912)
Boireau wants to learn how to box his way through life.
A pearl of early silent movie comedy. Boireau, angry about the rest of the world, wants to learn boxing. A boxing school proofs to be unnecessary - a natural talent makes his way without much lessons. The anarchistic humour of the short film shows literature nobel-prize winner Andre Gide as a weird guy, possessed by his wild fist, who kicks away whatever is coming under his eyes. Very funny, if you have kept a simple, straight humour... !
Tribulations d'une grosse caisse (1909)
A big drum rolling through the town centre leaves chaos.
early short with simple, explicit humour, but well done. A big drum rolls off and whirls through the centre of a small town in France, leaving chaos and disaster behind. Funny and anarchistic, in the best tradition of the early masterworks of humour.
