Wild Wild Country (2018)
American Hypocrisy Out Again
When you try to unmask a cult you end up unmasking u.s.a instead..how they killed a spiritual guru who died soon after because of slow poison given to him in U.s prison..just because a lesson was to be taught to illegal immigrants...and the war depicted in this documentary was started by citizens of antelope against rajnishpuram..but victimizers played the victims themselves...isnt it obvious that bigotry, gun culture, porn industry, tobacco lobby , alcoholism and mafia culture prevail in america whose basic principles are liberty , freedom but tries to curb freedom of whole globe..how could they who destroyed the original inhabits the native indians tolerate anyone else coming and staying in neighbourhood..its so obvious..just wish rajnish followers were not depicted here as a cult as.they were more intelligent, humane and evolved beings compared to other holier than thou citizens in neighbourhood which so involved in hate intolerance and narrow outlook..only exception here is sheela who nearly lost it because of all the hate and attacks coming from citizens of antelope..anyways bygone is bygone...but just read any oshos book or listen to his discourse to know him and his movement ..this docu does no justice to that
Padmaavat (2018)
it's just a movie for godsake
Why so much of hoopla about it...I don't remember any historically accurate period films being made in bollywood. As a kid when I saw mughal e azam, razia sultana etc., films I always knew they have got to do nothing historical facts .Whether it be jodhaa akbar or bajirao mastanI ..All these so called magnum opus have been more a work of fiction then facts. So why all the hell broke loose over padmavatI aka padmaavat. It is a good time pass with lot of entertaining moments , can be called a desI version of troy kind of subject. But when several hundred crore is the budget then please spare me the horrendous cgI experience. Rest go see it and discover for yourself why was the whole world after this film. Trying to either ban it or rather glorify it
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
boring and nonsense
why not stick to 007 bond films then to make tiring sequels 4 hours long torture where morbid and dimly lit sets in the film put you in a deep slumber....i felt like an lotus eater..on unknown odyssey to nowhere..such a bum trip... i had terrible time in movie hall and kept falling asleep every few minutes despite changing seats and was pinching myself literally to keep awake but since i made a wow not to give up till whole ordeal was over i had to take few strolls outside the hall...such a boring dull lengthy film with its plot going nowhere..if you have insomnia this is the cure i guess
Jab Harry Met Sejal (2017)
No Story who cares it is still a Mature Love story
No Story who cares..it shows life and moments of love and affection which are so beautiful....Shahrukh Khan the producer actor of this film is terrific ..he does not ham, does not show his cliché styled overacting ..instead acts like a simple guy and not like a superstar. it is essentially director Imtiaz Ali's film who always has influenced the acting and mannerism of his actor and as all Actors in his previous films had displayed personality and influence of Imtiaz himself so it was always interesting to see how Imtiaz had influenced Shahrukh in his acting or the other way around that how his direction got influenced while working with the superstar for the first time....... Well Shahrukh shows maturity in his acting by playing it simple honest and effectively funny and sensitive and on other hand imtiaz shows maturity as director of a film which hardly had a story and they both have pulled off a story without any story...... my suggestion to those who are going to watch this film with an analytic mind, please don't think about the clichés or yash chopra and karan johar genre of movies being revisited..it's a bigger challenge to keep the same formula and old wine in a new bottle so please see what is new and fresh. Anushka Sharma was terrific and fitted well in her role of so said shallow nature character. Also this film is just not about Europe tour or Mustard fields in Punjab, neither its only about the Loneliness of Indian's living abroad or desi girl trying to break free from the traditional wedding ties, In fact it's more about how a true relationship is formed by being with someone who is totally opposite to you and still having a mutual understanding respect and affection for each other, Off- course also with a certain physical chemistry for each other and it is this deeper reflections along with some very very real and comic moments in this surreal film which makes it watch worthy and while it must have been a difficult film to make it serves the purpose to inspire people to rise in love..lastly i think it has the best music of 2017...and guys who are giving it bad rating and bad publicity please go and see raabta or munna michael please..this film deserves sensible audience who know what relationships and love is and not the kind of audience which just want to see a sequel of jab we met
A Street Cat Named Bob (2016)
boring ,cliche n uninspiring
this is another film about the problems of developed world & its society which spite of all the material gains it has feels hollow & substance less....in western societies of independent and nuclear families there are several cases of so much lonely and depressed or unemployed young people that it gets scary for us people living in underdeveloped world or so called third world countries...at least we see more optimism in our society....after watching recent films like fences/ Manchester by sea/ nocturnal animals/ moonlight/ king jack/ bill Lynn's long walk/ American honey/ Jackie/ Christine/ captain fantastic and then this one adapted from a best seller ..i can't help compare it with films like the salesman (iran) or Dangal (india) and i realized that optimism is lacking in Hollywood or British films nowadays... firstly i don't understand why make a cat more important then a human being and whats so special about this story....there are several other ways to get inspired to leave drugs and be sincere in life...why such a facade...this film is certainly not a survival guide and doesn't make me feel inspired or smile my way out of theater...its more pretentious and fake if compared to films dealing with real issues
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk (2016)
Worth Watching
i know its cheesy , cliché and one expects more from ang lee.....but wait guys...if we are so busy lauding other cheesy and cliché films like Manchester by the sea..moonlight...la la land..lion and so on..then whats so wrong with this film...agree the new shooting technology makes this look more boring, cheesy and distracting ...infact acting and direction along with screenplay is so mediocre...but then there is a wonderful insight ...on the war and more than the war..on the consumerism and capitalism... now these are the issue which has driven humankind to disaster and earlier colonialism and world wars....so for me this film makes us do some soul searching and ask where the real enemy is ..and what is karma connection
Lion (2016)
a True story based on an Autobiography
i have been working with news media and last year i came across a news story which talked about an Indian who was adopted & living in Australia for 20 years since his childhood coming back to India after he successfully and miraculously tracked back his lost hometown ( which he didn't know where it was) with the help of google...this was all put in his autobiography - A Long Way Home...(this name coincides with my favourite supertramp song also ;) anyways sheru was able to track the river stream, station tracks and locality he stayed as a child in central India and was reunited with his mother fatima munshi who had never given hope of finding me him again and had been visiting temples and dargahs for the same..it was a special story indeed and with lot of hope but no one knew the details or tried to get into the events which made him go to Australia or how he was separated from his family somewhere in khandwa ( the city of central India where legendary singer kishore kumar was also born)...now lion the film based on same true story does two things here..it brings drama to the film and tears in the eyes of the audience...but more important is the support it gives to the lost or abandoned kids...there have been films like salaam Bombay & slumdog millionaire who did the same and so it becomes essential to promote or encourage this film....now the hard fact today is that sheru is back in Australia and doesn't send any financial aid anymore to his mother fatima in India..whereas she still does washing of utensils at households and is able to earn less then 30 dollars a month which is enough for her monthly cost of living...this is what the film didn't talk about ;))
Manchester by the Sea (2016)
boring ,cliche n depressing
its a fashion to rave about a film and give it a cult status...same goes for this one...it may win best film and the best actor in upcoming Oscars but for me this film was not up to the expectation it arose after so many star ratings it gets here on IMDb..frankly its a Hollywood satire on the American society and its a morbid take on American beauty and American history type films and shows how the have ones are suffering more then the have not of the world..compare the situation with the one in film LION and you will understand what I'm talking about...is American & European society suffering from getting too much in their platter ? ..whereas the developing nations and third world countries which still are rattling with existential & survival issues are more optimistic in approach....here the melancholy of western society in comparison even after being materially secure is astonishing...i support the films like lion and also the fantasy musical la la land which is more real then Manchester on the sea..a self inflicting pain indeed this one.
Teenkahon (2014)
A Must Watch
One of the films i cannot forget after watching ..and its really intense..This Film may also scare you by its depiction of eroding human value system but then its a dark reality...The 3 stories here describe the change in thought process, emotional capacity, sensibilities about obsessive love ..it also depicts the change of language, lifestyle and attitude of people in our society since last 100 years..one question viewer may ask why to Show Obsessions and why Repression or Fear in name of Love ? ANd that is the point here this film is trying to make.. in the Present corporate & digital age where everything from fast food chains to shopping malls to education to personal relations - everything seems like a facade and no one really cares about anyone anymore except for their own desires & survival..this film sums its all.. ....please don't compare it with works of previous bengali film makers or European cinema of 70s to 90s..just watch it and enjoy the labour of love by debutant director Baudhayan Mukherjee ...its well shot , good sound mixing and great acting by some debutant as well seasoned actors
Phantom (2015)
It"s about pending justice
this is in reply to some bullshit review from Faisal noor someone of Pakistan who has threatened on IMDb that India knows WHAT Pakistan IS CAPABLE OF DOING TO India. (FAISAL SO U MEAN A NUCLEAR ATTACK ON US ? ..in case an Indian commando goes to kill terrorists like lakhvi & hafiz syed..would you guys nuke India in return ?? )..Mr. Faisal on IMDb also called all indians idiots & has called our dear Prime Minister a terrorist...well I'm very sorry ..what would you call your Mr. Jinnah who started riots by direct actions and led the partitioning of our great country and inculcated hatred between millions displaced..Btw if Pakistani sentiments are hurt by watching this recent movie which is based on a work of fiction written by an Indian Muslim & is also directed, produced and acted by various other Muslim personalities of India....This film strongly talks about a real problem this whole world and humanity is facing and if this problem has its origin in your country Pakistan ..(which the elderly female character in film itself after helping the indians kill a terrorist, says ..i did it for Pakistan) ..then do accept it....ANyways guys, we are all film lovers here on IMDb & we are here to review, praise or criticize a film and not a race , community , creed, caste or nation...if the film phantom is not a good film i would have agreed to discuss and argue but the topic and debate it raises and subject it deals with is very real...it can happen anywhere in my country or your country and has been happening ever since some nexus of politicians, feudal lords and arms dealers all over the world started destroying mankind systematically through partitioning countries, waging wars and promoting terrorist outfits ..and yes the one big question that remains to be answered by Pakistan is that India is still waiting for justice ..if some citizens of Pakistan think that culprits behind the terrorist attack in mumbai can be given safe haven...they are SO MUCH WRONG....in mumbai attacks out of 170 people who died nearly 70 were Muslims..the innocent passengers waiting to catch trains at VT station....so please accept the truth for sake of your own country if not mine & Don't threaten My great country from which ur country came into existence that u r gonna nuke us...no son says this to his own father ..and yes there are more muslims in India then in Pakistan who are ready to defend India against any other terrorist attack.. thanks
Jab We Met (2007)
this movie will make you fall in love again.
Jab We Met is not a typical bollywood film yet it will remind you of all the spicy & young bollywood romantic stories from bobby to dil hai ki manta nahi or even dil chahta hai. it's essentially a script writers film & though one may agree that there are several loopholes in this film....but everyone agrees to the final feel good factor which reigns supreme when u walk out of the cinema hall & this feel lingers on even after the show is over. jab we met has Fun, frolic & emotions running parallel to each other. This film will also be remembered for natural & intense On screen chemistry between shahid kapoor & kareena kapoor, the bollywood star pair which have been linked together in real life for long. Whether they exist as real life lovers is not so important now for their on screen pairing is convincing enough to make this film a hit, unlike their earlier pairing on screen...just don't miss this one.
Khamosh Pani (2003)
a historical fact
khamosh pani is among those few films which really matter. After watching his film i couldn't sleep properly for next few nights. it was disheartening to know that Pakistan, which has a similar culture to India underwent major changes culturally during Zia-ul-haq's regime. General Zia in his efforts to avenge the loss of east Pakistan tried to undo any so called Indian influence on social structure by turning Pakistan into a theocratic state. all the radical changes brought in name of islamisation further gave rise to problems which were created by fanatic minds..like taliban in Afghanistan or i.s.i sponsored terrorism in Kashmir.... Though khamosh pani doesn't tackle these issues directly but shows a changing social scenario in Pakistan during the seventies & eighties....this movie in a subtle way reflects the futility of partition in 1947 & the insecurities/prejudices remaining since then.....It should be a lesson to all the people who give more importance to theology than humanity on this planet.
