Night at the Eagle Inn (2021)
Pretty Fun
With some of the reviews talking about a slow burn, it honestly felt pretty quick to me (I think the credits hit at like 65 minutes?). My friend and I thought the music, location and acting were awesome (but full disclosure: I'm a sucker for haunted hotel movies). No big jump scares, but definitely really great vibes and mood (unlike a lot of other small cast low budget movies that all kind of feel the same). Bonus points for Dean being really hot and taking his shirt off for no reason.
The Back Pages (2017)
For anthology lovers...
Big fan of anthologies, and really glad to have stumbled on this. I've watched a few of the episodes, and each are distinct but a good overall tone. I actually like the indie feel (a lot of other anthologies I've been watching feel overproduced). Definitely give a go. Short episodes too (in a good way!) so easy to take a chance on. What else are you doing during quarantine? lol
Before the Dawn (2019)
interesting
Saw The Boy Next Door with JLo a few years ago. This actually plays the idea straighter and I thought the acting and camerawork is good. Some people might not like it because of the subject matter but I thought it was cool.
The Redeeming (2018)
Love British Horror
I love psychological horror movies, and I love movies set in England. Slow burns are cool too and this had all of that. I wish the camera work were a little stronger, but I knew what I was in for when I watched it and enjoyed it!
Tag Team Truckers (2018)
Good chemistry
Good chemistry between the brothers. Chuckled out loud a few times. Camera work was really good - especially for an indie. Would recommend.
We'll Test It on Humans (2016)
cool concept
Definitely a fan of dark comedies and this was a cool concept. sound quality was not great, but i though the performances were pretty good despite it and i laughed out loud a few times.
8 Remains (2018)
pretty cool
Some striking shots and a cool concept. short enough too so if you're looking for a quick watch that'll keep your interest, id' check it out.
Long Lost (2018)
caught me off guard
Honestly didn't know wtf was going on for like the first hour and then everything really started unraveling and i totally got it. definitely a slow burn, but i'm into that stuff. skimmed through it again after i knew the twist and saw all these little things i missed which was crazy. definitely a little more mellow than the trailer seems (at least for most of it), but that's not a bad thing. the actors were really good too which i guess they'd have to be to keep my interest for an hour and a half with only 3 people.
Love Is Not Enough (2019)
low key rom com
Low budget rom com (not an insult) that hits some cool stuff in a way that's not too heavy handed. just happened across it and glad i did. definitely something to watch on a chill night in.
Huckleberry (2018)
love the angst
I'm a sucker for melancholy adolescent angst, and this definitely fit the bill for me. The acting especially was surprisingly good - special shout out to Sarah Ulstrop. Very nuanced. Really liked it. If you're looking to feel bad (in a good way!) check this one out.
Dirty Beautiful (2015)
Good Chemistry
Bad acting usually derails a movie like this, but I thought the two leads had really good chemistry and pulled it off. Kept my interest the whole time, and I laughed out loud a couple of times which I usually never do when I watch movies alone. I think worth a watch if you're into this genre for sure.
Nowhere Mind (2018)
Thoughtful
I sometimes felt like I was dreaming when I was watching this, which is I think is kind of the point. I thought that they did a great job telling a low budget, cerebral, character-drive science fiction movie. Definitely slow-moving sometimes, but I was into it. Also, I know this is small, but I thought the opening shot was really effective (both when we first saw it and when it was repeated).
The Evil Down the Street (2019)
definitely liked it
People keep saying "low budget" like that automatically makes something not worth watching. I don't get. Can you tell it wasn't made for millions of dollars? Yeah, sure - but it's still fun - and honestly, given that, the camera work and acting was surprisingly really good. I definitely thought it was tense - especially the last third. I don't want to spoil anything, but that girl on the staircase really creeped me out. I'd say give it a look - especially if you're into scary stuff.
