Monster Hunter (2020)
Makes resident evil look like citizen kane..
Ok , where to start. Begins well , nice scenery, good monsters, Mila and Ron...so far so good...It was about half an hour in that it struck me. What the hell was going on? Humans fight monsters, then humans fight humans, then back to the monsters and so on...To sum up the plot...well, theres probably a more understandable storyline in a...shall we say...adult movie (not that im acquainted with this form of entertainment..) In fact its safe to say that as plots go, its not something that came up during the making of this epic. As movies go, ok for teens, but i like a bit more intelligence in my Sci - Fi.
Dead Again (2021)
It aint romero , so what!
A lot of bad reviews appear every time a group of people decide to make an independent movie. I ask one question.. could all of you armchair critics do better? Personally i enjoyed this movie for the same reason i watch a lot of independent cinema. It has heart, and enthusiasm in its making, and does not rely on three hours of slow burn before anything happens, like in so many hollywood movies of today. Ok, this ones not going to win any oscars, but a lot of effort has gone into this, and it looks like the cast enjoyed themselves, so whats not to love? Prehaps next time the writers could keep an eye on the editing, as little bits such as the police conversation went on a bit, but overall its a 7 for me.
Dracula 3D (2012)
Sad offering from once great director
I attempt to approach remakes, reboots, or re anything when it comes to the world of cinema. One such case is the amount of Dracula movies that have been made since Murnau"s "Nosferatu, a symphony of horror" back in 1922. Since then we have had definitive versions of the count (Lee, lugosi), good versions ( Oldman, Kinski), and poor ones ( Carradine,Kier). Im afraid this version fits in with the third category. Thomas Kretschmann is failing in his attempt to achieve the charming but deadly persona of Christopher Lee , coming across as bland and boring. Rutger Hauer had reached the age where everything he just phoned in, and the rest of the cast walked their way around the movie either asleep or undressed. Much has been said about the CGI effects , and im surprised a director of Argentos calibre couldnt at least have found someone to do them properly. I have given it a 2 star rating for the set design and the reasonable gore effects, and giving me a laugh with the Mantis killing, other than that id have to say probably dont bother. Watch the original "Suspiria" instead for a lesson in great horror cinema.
