Grade: A+ "How do people do not know about this one?"
7 November 2019
In a mad dash to find the final environmental monster movie for our "WHEN EARTH DAY ATTACKS" series, THE LAST WINTER was a surprising find. Henry the Host and his guest Molly were thoroughly surprised of what this film brought to the table with its messages on the environment but also being able to show case some well placed thrills. The characters and actors play their rolls well and the final shots of the film are chilling to say the least! We def recommend checking out this movie as well as listening to our full review of it wherever you listen to podcasts, for this movie was our second A+ film we ever gave out on It Came from a Monster Movie! Podcast!

Grade: B+ "It is the Rocky Horror Picture Show of the Godzilla franchise."
22 October 2019
Another entry into our "WHEN EARTH DAY ATTACKS" series, Godzilla vs Hedorah was a special episode for our podcast for it had our first special guest, the artist who does Neo Monster Island, Sean McGuinness. Now this film has a very "love it our hate it" vibe in the Godzilla community, but when watching this crazy entry of the Showa era Godzilla, we realized that this film has a very Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe to it (if of course Rocky Horror was about the environment.) This film is goofy but dark in an interesting blend and did somethings in the Godzilla franchise at this time that hadn't been seen since the original 1954 film. Hedorah is a great monster and this is a Godzilla that would inspire the mood of our current Legendary Godzilla. This movie has its faults, but its by far not a Godzilla movie you should ignore.

Grade: C "There are three songs in this one. You will love all of them."

We continued "WHEN EARTH DAY ATTACKS" with the first of the Mothra trilogy films. Rebirth of Mothra (Or just Mosura aka Mothra in Japanese) is a very kid friendly movie. We even had the joke for the grade that this puts the "C in Children's film." While it has a kiddish tone, the movie is a solid giant monster movie that showcases Mothra in a really rad light and explores more of her mythology. The human plot can be at times trying, but eh, what do you expect for a children's film on making sure you plant a tree once in a while.

Grade: F "Can't tell if its a work of genius or the ramblings of a mad Italian."

So. Contamination. *Deep breathe* This movie is something else. We reviewed it for our "Creeping March Madness" segment, and honestly it just goes nuts. This movie is low budget but also funded by Columbia drug lords. While we gave it an "F", its def one of those movies that is an "F for Fun" kind of bad movie.

If you need something to drink to on St.Paddy's or just, in general, definitely go check out this movie. Grabbers is a delightfully and surprisingly solid monster movie that is a fun movie watching experience. It was the first A+ film for our show!

Grade: F "Samuel L. Jackson on helium is the only highlight before the movie blue balls ya."

This film, while nostalgically awesome, does not hold up well. Its quite a departure from the book itself and also, as discovered in researching, suffered from production issues and sadly it shows. While this film has a lot of potential and some good character moments, it drags and drags itself across the bottom of the ocean and left Henry the Host and his guests dying for air.

Grade: A "Godzilla fights Golden Space Noodle over a philosophy debate."

Out of the three of the Godzilla anime trilogy on Netflix, this was the most entertaining and the first movie on IT CAME FROM A MONSTER MOVIE to ever get an A rating. While this film is unlike any Godzilla film that comes before it, as long as you've been open to the experience that the new anime trilogy presents for Godzilla's legacy, this film is a very unique and refreshing take on the old themes of Godzilla's purpose. Henry the host highlights that this is one of the best portrayals of King Ghidorah and finally explored the golden extraterrestrial as a interstellar (in this film inter-dimensional) death god. While this film might not be a "movie monster fan favorite", we can recommend that if you have seen the first two films, this is a surprisingly strong film.

Grade: B- "Surprisingly good story. Pity Jake Gyllenhaal is in it."
21 October 2019
We were honestly surprised how good this movie was. While we initially heard that it was lackluster, this movie was surprisingly solid and refreshing take on the "alien monster discovered by scientists in space." While Henry the Host had some issues with casting (mostly due to his apparent dislike of Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in this movie), the movie has some good twists and turns and Calvin is a very unique and strong antagonistic movie monster.

Grade: F "Henry the Host's first recorded breakdown."
21 October 2019
While the trailer for this film is pretty epic, the film itself is far from it. Creature design (which is excellent) aside, this is a poor attempt at the Moby Dick in space. The narrative and character development is all over the place and honestly it was a rough film to finish.

Grade: B+ "Don't expect MechaGodzilla but do expect the cost of progress commentary."
21 October 2019
In the second entry of the Godzilla animated trilogy, City on the Edge of Battle is a very unique entry for Godzilla. While the film misleads that MechaGodzilla has bigger role, it delivers some interesting commentary on progress and the cost of revenge. The action sequences are far and few between but when they play, they show a very unstoppable and powerful form of Godzilla.

Grade: B- "Anne Hathaway is my favorite Giant Monster!"
20 October 2019
This very unique entry into the giant monster genre stars Anne Hathaway in what we consider one of her best performances. While Act 1 is fun, Act 2 drags and Act 3 turns from "funny ha ha" to "oh dear god that got dark". The monster action is fun and the character development is sustainable.

The start to a unique and "controversial" entries in the 65 year legacy of the atomic menace that is Godzilla, we at It Came from a Monster Movie had a very interesting review for this movie. While we highlight that this film's narrative has flaws, there are some interesting and if you go into without expectation, you might actually surprise yourself with this film!

Grade: B+ "Trolls!"
20 October 2019
Featured as our Episode 2, TROLLHUNTER was an utter delight of a film. While we did watch the dub which caused some issues with enjoyment, this film is a fresh take on the monster genre and a very well executed entry of the found footage genre.

Grade: B- "Haven't you seen Shark Week?"
20 October 2019
This was the first movie our podcast, IT CAME FROM A MONSTER MOVIE!, ever reviewed and honestly, it was a pretty fun flick to start the show with. While it and the book it was based on have some differences, the film does deliver some of the fun thrills that shined the most in the film. While this film might not be everyone's cup of tea, its a somewhat refreshing shark attack film where it has fun with itself.
