The Larkins (2021)
Oh dear.
Growing up in Kent in the sixties and seventies this is totally wrong, I didn't see a black person until I went on a trip to London in the mid sixties, yet in the first episode there are at least six characters of ethnic minorities living in this tiny village in the 50's, this just would not have been true at all. If you make shows about life in the rural countryside in the 50's leave it as it would have been in the 50's. It's not even that diverse in Kent 60 odd years later.
Christmas Grace (2013)
Truly awful.
This film is truly awful, honestly, its not just one of the worst Christmas films I have ever seen it's one of the worst films of any genre I've ever seen.
The acting is appalling and the script is diabolically bad, really bad.
Please don't be fooled by all of the glowing and wonderful reviews, if I didn't know better I'd think most of them were written by the same person, in fact it's quite hard to believe that most of them are not written by the same person, urging you to buy copies of this trash as gifts for everyone.
Please don't be tempted to buy this terrible film as so many of these "reviewers" are urging but try and catch a trailer or clip of it first and then you won't waste your money on this terrible junk. .....Having read all these fabulous reviews again it's obvious that most of them are written by the same person and most of these people only joined IMDb in August last year and all wrote their wonderful reviews almost immediately, someone is desperate.
Play for Today: 'Nuts in May' (1976)
Brilliant
I can honestly say i cried myself to sleep the first time i watched this,it was one of the funniest things i had ever seen. The scene with the zoo song is absolutely hilarious, and cringingly embarrassing, you really feel for Ray as he is pressed into joining in.
The acting is superb. Especially Roger Sloman and Alison Steadman.
What makes it so good is that we all know characters like Keith and Candice-Marie in everyday life. But real people like them would not watch this film, they don't find this funny at all, they just do not understand it.
I have watched it with people who think it's awful, it went completely over their heads, people rather like Chris it seems.
BBC2 Playhouse: Grown-Ups (1980)
why no video?
I have only seen this once when it first came out 20 years ago,but i still remember it as if it were yesterday,i thought it was wonderful, and i have watched everything Mike Leigh has done ever since, but this is the only one that hasn't been repeated, and for some Unknown reason it is not available on video in the U.K. I would love to see this again, and would like to know why it is only avaiable in the states,as it is a truly British masterpiece.
