Kapi (2019)
Between Two Doors
A very touching story of a Syriac family who immigrated from South East Turkey to Germany just after they lost their eldest son. Movie has very well articulated psychological edges of parents and siblings of a lost child.
The father's reaction to the surfacing memories about his lost son is to obsess over the stolen door of his house. Mother's response also very well reflected in a never ending sorrow regardless of knowing what had actually happened to her lost child. A scene with a "dark well" where the mother was mourning is a candidate to become one of the unforgettable analogies of Turkish cinema.
Another great scene of analogy was the scene between the two doors. One resembles the birth that mother dressed white is sitting on that side and the another door was resembling the death that the Syriac priest dressed black is sitting on that side. This was a hidden message of "life" is told to be a stop between two doors in Anatolian culture.
It is a must to see art film also has sociological questionings and criticisms about modern Turkey such as unplanned urbanization and normalization of anti-ethic behaviors such as stealing others' heritages.
Starring Kadir Inanir at his usual well acting. Co-starring Vahide Percin (the mother) is performing with epic skills. The rest of the cast is successful.
Çiçero (2019)
Compelling story with mediocre executiom
It is a very compelling story of a historical person who played an important role in Ankara during second war. The casting of Erdal Besikcioglu and Burcu Biricik deserves 8/10 rating. Co-acting cast is definitely at 5/10 rating. The movie sounds as if it had a bug during the sound mixage. There is an echo during dialogues and we even asked Movie Theater if the problem is with their sound system. They rechecked and confirmed that it is the original playback.
Also some shooting places are not so realistic and it feels like it is shot in a studio environment.
Hababam Sinifi Yeniden (2019)
Remake failed
As a re-make of a legendary Turkish movie, this movie is a failure in my opinion. It is low a budget movie that the story itself is far away of being compelling enough. The story structure has inconsistencies in terms of logical sequence. Also most of the jokes are low quality and missing sharp intelligence. Producers could utilize better screenwriters and also casting of many famous young Turkish comediens.
