Vulnerability and empathy are not a good combination.
21 May 2024
Impressive to see the high rating, although I see that I am not the only black sheep among such good reviews.

This stalker series combines the appeal of a twisty thriller with a deep sense of empathy. And this enormous empathy is what makes the series not my thing. I know the story is real, that's why it makes it even more complicated for me to bear all this. I think the vulnerability is too pronounced, and the impact of human obsessions is gaining ground little by little.

The chemistry between the actors adds a layer of realism to the interactions, contributing to the emotional intensity of the series. But for me the testing of the viewer's sensitivity is too much to bear and it didn't hook me from start to end.

True story about someone who deals with his stalker in a bizarre way, to say at least. A raw look at someone who is not healthy, and that doesn't mean the stalker.

Let's get real, Donny and Martha, they're both sick!

No wonder that the conclusion illustrates why it's become one of the most discussed shows of the year. I think it is one of those series that you will like or not. There is no middle ground in this one.

Lets start by saying that the plot seemed very standard and cliché to me, with little innovation. There is no doubt that men will like it more, but it is not my cup of tea.

It's a trip to the real corruption in Spain, just at the beginning of the euro currency, and still with the pesetas in mind. Sadly this type of corruption has not changed much and is still going strong in Spain, that's why the part I liked the most about the movie is the final one, with the real images of the corrupt that in the end WE all ended up paying for. That's why the story has a cynical humor.

Even if the character is fictional the story is very real, but I think the film tries to cover too much, and gets cliché and cheesy. Also predictable.

Not my cupper like I said.

EPIC 60S!
21 May 2024
This is simply a great Tarantino movie, and one of my favorites along with Pulp Fiction.

The story is seen from the perspective of two antiheroes, well, if you want to call them that, because for me they are two heroes. The twist to Charles Manson took me by surprise, and I really liked the lightness that Tarantino gives to this part of the story. It doesn't dominate and set the colorful context in a sinister way.

The cinematogragy in the California of the late 60s is epic, a time of sociocultural changes and hippies, psychedelia and drugs. In the correct setting full of pop color and amazing music. The two main characters and their interpretations are excellent, Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt wandering disorientedly through the streets and sets of Hollywood.

The flamethrower and the pantomime and memories towards Bruce Lee are unforgettable, just to explode with laughter! And I can mention more great moments for sure.

Another remarkable thing in Tarantino's way of writing is the dialogues, which absorb you and are always great and full of wonderful and sometimes logical ideas, they are in this movie.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a pretty good movie. Tarantino does a great job immersing the audience into the film. I also like how he presents a tribute to 1960s Hollywood, even if it mixes fact and fiction. In fact, you often can't tell fact from fiction here, which makes the experience all the better. Is this a movie that is meaningful with something significant to take away? The movie has taught me something, but you'll have to judge that when you see it.

That it is entertaining and fun, there is no doubt about that!

Outer Range (2022– )

Nobody understands time and what it really is.
20 May 2024
I am not a big fan of science fiction, but this one is on another level, it's not about red laser eyes and super powers, or for example protagonists with one eye and 3 ears.

I like both seasons, they are something else, and quite different from each other, which makes them very interesting and intriguing. The first season didn't switch between timelines a lot, but season 2 travels between different timelines like it's walking from one room to another. The treatment of these time periods, in terms of the cinematography, art direction and design, is really fascinating!

The music and the sound are just great. What more can I say? It's a perfectly made show.

Outer Range uses the concept of time travel and its tangled possibilities to explore the voids inside the characters. One of the standout episodes, is from Sheriff Joy, in the 1880s, among the Indigenous tribes. The wonderful actress Tamara Podenski.

Both actors Josh Brolin and Lili Taylor, Royal and Cecilia Abbott in the series are really good! Brolin is just perfect for this! No series without them both!. As for the rest of the cast, they are all fantastic.

Well.. for those prepared to accept its lay back complexity and suspend disbelief, this is an engaging trip full of surprising twists and turns. It made me think, because of the interesting concept and execution. I recommend it!

Great!!
18 May 2024
Great movie! Based on some for sure real staff; according to an opening credit. It is very provocative, funny and profane polemic, a film with a dead-serious message under the satirical tone.

The film story, set in the 70s, kicks in with Ron Stallworth (John David Washington) completing his job interview to become the first black cop in the Colorado Springs police department. This comedy-drama is entirely in the service of political commentary, which Spike Lee accomplishes quite good, with cretive talent and played for laughs. And by the way, Denzel Washington son gives the most brilliant performance, and this shows that he is very talented and is not only the son of.

I must mention the fantastic music and clothing of the 70s, the afro hairstyles are fantastic!

The story will make you angry because of the injustices and racism but at the same time it is bearable because of its freshness and originality. Don't forget that the ending has real and very hard images.

The movie lasts 2 hours and 15 minutes, but I assure you that when I realized I only had 15 minutes left to finish it, it goes by quickly because of how entertaining it is, bearable and at the same time very tense, intriguing, rough and interesting without a doubt.

And I like to finnish with a quote I love: I hope people will see how harmful words are and how irresponsible we can be when saying the wrong things at the wrong time to certain people.

I recommend it, this is one of those not to be missed!

BODY OF LIES
16 May 2024
I'll start by saying that the movie is entertaining, due to the different locations and the threat and danger. Of course Di Caprio shines in his role and this gives more strength to the movie, in my opinion.

Futher I found the storyline is not too clear and the climax is not too structured. The middle part is actually a large chain of events, and the end is unsatisfactory and almost ridiculous, just a tame and uncomplicated ending.

Body of Lies is a simple spy thriller, in which there is of course room for the necessary action. And Ridley Scott, portrays this in his characteristic, often very striking and realistic way.

It is not epic, not by far, but still worth a watch.

Anthracite (2024)

Fun gothic suspense!
15 May 2024
Anthracite is set in a small village in the Alps, that was shaken to its core in 1994, when the collective suicide of a sect called Les Ecrins hit the headlines.

Don't let Ida's character irritate you at the beginning of the series, she will change quickly and is much more bearable.

The plot moves around quickly, while the beautiful surroundings of the Swiss Alps make for a great visual backdrop, and the cast makes the most of the many twists and turns that the series has to offer. It delivers a great blend of suspense and humour, making it really intriguing.

Anthracite is the kind of big hamburger full of sauce and ingredients that you know will stain you. And even though there are times when it seems unclear where the show is going, it skillfully keeps things moving forward by adding really good turns and surprises, making for an engaging and exciting story.

The series explores dark themes, leaving the audience intrigued, it is worth the watch!

I heard someone say that the movie can be educational? The truth is that I would not watch this movie for educational purposes and not even with children under 18 years of age.

The morality is clear and that is why the movie does not emphasize on certain things. I didn't like this approach at all!, it is too black and white, and too much violence.

It's not just racism, it's the way of treating it, racism with violence, the worst there is. This is a hateful group of young people lost in life, whose brain has been spinned and they have no way out, the only thing that makes sense to them is violence, and on top of that they look for it, violence, and provoke it, it is the only way to feel power for them. But what do they care? They have weapons and explode at the slightest, everyone fears them, and rightly so. It would scare me too, a lot! Even the parents and grandfather scare me!

What I found even more racist and frustrating is treating a young man from Pakistan like a real idiot, for seeking help from the person who hates him and has tried to kill him.

The acting is good and realistic and this is the most positive thing I can add. Even the music seemed terrible to my taste.

The movie will not resolve everything or not in a satisfying kind of way. At the contrary, it lacks a sense of justice in one way or another, big time!

As I say, I still can't believe I've seen the entire movie. If you can stand it this story has the ability to drag you in by the very rough and emotional violent ride.

During the first few minutes I sat with my heart racing wanting to kill them all! Judge for yourself.

Bodkin (2024– )

The best stories are mystery stories!
13 May 2024
I really liked the series, a very entertaining dark comedy thriller, full of creativity, something different for a change!. It is a nice journey full of unexpected twists, suspense and humor in a typical and beautiful village in Ireland. Ireland! Where there are 4 seasons a day! And it is totally true! No cliches here.

From the start of this story is clear that this village, Bodkin, and its community are hiding some really big secrets. .. then this three reporters/podcasters arrived and try to investigate this cold case, to turn the story into a podcast.

Underneath it all is a warning that perhaps some things don't need to be uncovered, and perhaps they're left better off dead.

They capture the rural essence of today's Ireland, in which are still fishermen who talk about mares that circle the field seven times, before becoming beautiful women, and say that it is more important than resurrecting forgotten crimes. Really charming! It definitely maintains its charm with the beautiful photography too.

In terms of performances, the star here is the Irish actress Siobhán Culley, with a character in rebellion with everything and herself.

By the way, personaly I never like to compare, ever! But some are comparing this series with the British series 'Broadchurch'? This is really ridiculous.

No doubt, 'Bodkin' succeeds in the genre of thriller with a real mystery. All this helps to give the series a strong identity of its own that will not go unnoticed.

Full of mystery, with beautiful Irish melodies, intriguing and entertaining. Don't miss it.

Interesting miniseries
9 May 2024
To be honest, it's not my type of series, although I decided to watch it because the English ones are usually pretty good. To start, the location confused me a lot, it seems like a good suburban neighborhood in America because of the materialism and the manners of the neighbors. Don't get me wrong, I'm just saying it as a compliment, for the English of course.

The first episode left me wanting more, and I just watched it until the end, it has something that hooks you. It is entertaining and exciting at various times, the police investigation and the religious theme kept me very intrigued. And just to make things a little more interesting, Becka is being stalked by Alan, a neighbour, the actor Hugh Denis, whom I mention and highlight for his excellent work, is the best performance in the series.

I didn't see any type of betrayal or secrets between the couples, the two participate in the sexy game, and later the psychopathic evolution of Evi, who is always laughing, is well done, but the continuous and annoying smile almost becomes a pantomime of a diabolical doll.

Like many other series, many of the decisions made are not at all realistic, and the ending, even so being very exciting, exceeds psychopathy and radical religious positions that never lead to anything good.

This short series may not be epic, but it remains watchable and exciting, offering a mix of entertainment and moments that really engage.

THEM SEASON2
9 May 2024
The first season of 'Them' was suffocating. It was constant trauma with no clear focus on who it was made for. Far too much frustration for me! I just didn't like it!

In the second season the racial theme continues but on a much less frustrating level, a more thoughtful manifestation of racism in the police force.

Without a doubt this season is of better quality, terrifying and very well done.

The acting is not the best I have seen at all, and the only actor who stands out is Luke James as Edmund Gaines, he builds the intensity with each episode. His performance stands out intensely above any of the superficial reactions throughout the series.

This season is visually really good and the use of the color red gives a more terrifying atmosphere to the images. Real quality in design and cinematography here.

Well, I think that the 2nd season offers a good combination of horror and essential themes, such as mental health. I recommend it without a doubt.

A Man in Full (2024)

An entertaining watch with great music!
6 May 2024
A GREAT performance of Jeff Daniels! And a very entertaining and provoking series.

The six episodes dives into the complexities of American life, money, power, race, win and lose, in ways that repel and captivate. The novel, which I did not know and nor have read, is a satire and I will never compare books with series or movies, they are very different things, like comparing pears with apples.

I think the series lacks a true satirical edge, look at Trump, sometimes he surpasses fiction.

A 'Man in Full' may not be groundbreaking, but it's worth a watch for those interested in an exploration of ambition, wealth, power, and politics.

What does it take for a human to kill another?
1 May 2024
I was not expecting this gem of a series, each episode is a different topic and the episodes are not connected, the crimes are based on real events. As in all this type of series, you will like some episodes more or less than others, some will frustrate you because of the topic, a lot of tension.

Despite not being recent, they started filming it in 2011, it is worth seeing if you like crime series, strong, rough and significant themes of our current society.

It seems very realistic to me and I wouldn't watch it with younger people under the 18 years of age.

I will never be able to understand murder, unless it is self-defense, judge for yourself. Don't miss it !

Shocking and macabre!
28 April 2024
Great true crimes series!

With deep characters that generate a lot of interest, the cast is excellent!. The one who stands out above all of them is the wonderful and in Spain well-known actress Candela Peña, in the role of the unstable mother. It is is worth watching just to see her in the role of Rosario Porto. And of course I must also mention the role of Tristán Ulloa, really great in the role of the father, Alfonso Basterra.

The series does not invent anything and it is very well detailed, it is very intriguing and there is a lot of tension. Really gripping. This is a case that filled hours of discussions and that shocked Spanish society, the terrifying and tragic murder of Asunta. What really happened the night she disappeared?

The Judge Malvar, played by the great actor Javier Gutiérrez, is very obsessed with having the winning hand. Without caring if along the way he exposes those prosecuted to a process without all the guarantees. His attitude reaches the point that leads us to wonder if all judges are like that, and if victory and the desire to win are the only things that matter.

Another interesting thing is the media's role in this entire mess. Whether or not you believe the outcome of this case, we cannot deny the role of the media sensationalizing this horrible case, which, at its core, is of a young girl's tragic murder. It definitely makes you think and ask yourself whether the people who are supposed to protect and care for the general public really have our best interests in mind.

And please you have to watch it in the original version with subtitles, otherwise it won't work at all.

You shouldn't miss this one, with a sensational cast of actors, a true crime story told accurately and a tragic and powerful drama and mysterious thriller.

Deliver Me (2024)

IN YOUR HANDS
25 April 2024
This series with just five episodes, its a quick watch that hits hard.

The story is told from the standpoint of two characters but it works out into a much larger social problem that is very universal. This illustrates how all over the world we are having the same issues. Young kids get involved with gangs, drugs, crime and violence. The two young friends spend a lot of time in a very rough neighborhood, and tough guys in gangs and drugs are not uncommon.

The series does not become preachy at all, but makes you as a viewer sit up and also take notice of the alienated sections of the society.

The young actors Olle and Yasir, Douglas and Billy in the series are stunning!! And Ardalan Esmaili is simply a great actor, I know him from other Nordic shows, he is the policeman Farid in the series.

The journey of this two very young men in a very dangerous world without knowing the real and rough repercussions of their actions is very intriging and exciting, and the dramatization of the scenes does not look forced to me and is very realistic. They also explored the depths of grief and anger by those left behind.

The story is simple, but the truth isn't. It is brutal, heartbreaking and really important. What happens when the power of friendship is confronted with brutal choices? And what happens when a society fails to protect its kids?

By the way I just want to get rid of the only criticism I have, some of the music doesn't wraps some of the scenes well at all. It is not always well adapted in my opinion.

The question is when children commit horrible crimes, who bears responsibility? Can a child be a monster?, and if so, how does that happen? How can we, as a society, allow it to happen?! While it can be easy to blame adults, but it is really is a much larger problem.

This series is an intense and compelling story. Full of very relevant and important problems in our society, it is tough!. It challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths while delivering a gripping and emotionally great series!

A movie would have been better!
24 April 2024
The Hijacking of Flight 601 is based on real events and it had some good acting, although I did not know the highly valued (in the reviews) Monica Lopera at all.

This series could be much more exciting and realistic if it had been a movie, no doubt.

The 1st episode left me frustrated because it seems like a soap opera melodrama with comedy tones to me, and I know the Latin American mentality and language well. I kept watching it, but without success, too long and a lot of invented drama, this takes away from its quality in my opinion. It becomes tiring and boring between some exciting moments, the drama and the analysis of the characters dominates.

This was simply not my cup of tea.

ROUGH ENTERTAINMENT
22 April 2024
I liked it!! The series captured my attention from the first moment and did not let go until the end. And by the way, I've never liked comparisons, so comparing this series to Narcos is absolutely ridiculous.

I had not seen much of the Colombian actress Sofia Vergara. She does a great job and manages to capture the essence of Griselda, showing her cruel and ruthless determination in a very captivating way. Each episode is full of unexpected twists and tense moments that keep the adrenaline flowing.

The 6 episodes are also made with a lot of dynamism and combined with excellent music, that is why it fulfills the purpose of entertaining and engaging the viewer. The moments of action and crime are spectacular and many of them unexpected, they will make you jump off the couch.

The series is in Spanish from Latin America, and some English. It is essential to see it in the original version.

And I must mention that I am more than tired, as a woman, about the feminist comments about the series and so on,... just have fun watching it.

Griselda invites you to an entertaining experience. Although it may seem a bit lightweight compared to the true story of Griselda Blanco, it's still a solid option for those looking for a dose of drama and action on the small screen. The great chosen cast, frenetic pace and cultural authenticity, is a recommendable option for those looking for an excitement, action and drama.

LA MANADA
20 April 2024
A very good documentary. A complex challenge due to the importance of a case that marked and changed the Spanish society. And maybe it sounds cliché but it is was necessary and I am really glad that they have documented it for Netflix.

I know the case, but after having seen the documentary I realized that I didn't know everything, it is very well detailed and told. The work is done with care and clarity not only talking about the case but also generating a debate that is still very alive, like the fight against machismo in society. On a technical and artistic level it follows a standard, although the use of some nice music is a good choice.

I really liked the way it transports you to the 'San Fermines' in Pamplona and shortly after the big party has started it becomes a real and big brutal crime.

'No estás sola' is important to see and emotion and information will not leave anyone indifferent. This was a horrific gang rape in Spain! And they meticulously put together the events of that horror night.

It is about the fight for justice, raising crucial questions about consent, victim blaming, and societal responsibility. There is no doubt that this documentary provokes high emotions of injustice, frustration and at the same time empathy.

Don't miss this one.

A SINISTER MASTERPIECE!
19 April 2024
Where to start...., it is simply one of the best series I have seen!

The style is what catches your eye first, in a macabre story about the twists and turns of the human mind in all the beautiful shades of black, grey and white, and at the same time embraces the film noir atmosphere.

The story is a really fascinating and wonderful journey, around beautiful Italy in the 60's, of crime, psychological manipulation, thriller and mistery. And it has a clear approach to the creepy tension in Hitchcock's movies.

It even has moments of humor, and the dialogues are amazing, especially with the detectives who investigate the case.

As we already know, Tom Ripley is very much a fraud and a grifter, but he is also a character you end up liking and even respecting. The slow pace at times, didn't bother me at all!! There is so much to observe and enjoy, the amazing photography, beautiful landscapes and all the details, just fantastic! And let's not forget the music that accompanies all this!

The actors are all wonderful, and the increasing tension as Tom's lies and plans steadily unravel, makes you want to see more and more.

Well.. I have absolutely nothing negative to add.

Like I said before, It's one of the best series I've seen, and I've seen a lot. It even left me wanting more, if there had been more chapters I wouldn't have cared at all. I didn't want it to end! Can you film more episodes please?

Absolutely Brilliant!!!
16 April 2024
It is very clear that this series is a great production, from beginning to end, of great quality without a doubt.

I didn't know this true story so for me the ending was something totally unexpected!! No spoilers here by the way.

It is a very heavy journey to watch. It is not a story of overcoming but a journey through the miseries of an American social sector in the face of a system that not only ignores them, but also seems destined to subject them to a state of absolute invisibility. The story of The Central Park Five and the rape of the jogger that occurred in 1989 is one of the examples that the director and screenwriter takes to give them body and, more importantly, VOICE.

I must also mention that some of the affected families are very selfish, negligent and very vulnerable, which makes the series even harder to watch and accept. Don't get me wrong, it is the year 1989 when the tragedy begins, but still. Without a doubt the families could have helped a lot more during the inevitable incarceration and recovery afterwards.

The four episodes are from the perspective of the adolescents and their families. This time the five have names and faces, and a place in the daily history of the city. The perspective tells the story of those involved, the abyss between them and the system told from their experiences.

With patience, almost like a documentary, the creator, director and screenwriter Mrs Ava Duvernay, places the characters in time and space, giving them a 3dimensional look, which, thanks to the great cast, provokes, disturbs, anger and excites. Great job!

Beyond this great production, photography and music, this miniseries is sustained by a great cast of young people, and also because it is a way of making justice on a case where the system failed from the beginning. Making the young man involved visible, is giving them the compensation they deserve.

If you like very tough series and also based on real events with court cases, prison, etc...don't miss this one!

Three Strangers
15 April 2024
I'm really impressed by the high rating. Don't get me wrong, it is a remarkable documentary. A jaw dropping story. Well documented using intervies and really good archive footage.

My main problem is that it's too long and too repetitive, there are also many silent stops to further dramatize the story, but they don't work in my opinion.

During the first hour, I was thinking "what's the point?" and then the story seems a little more interesting. Although it wasn't what I expected at all. It started to intrigue me a little and that's why I watched it until the end, because the story went from amazing to incredible. I was expecting something stronger to be honest, I don't know, something criminal and thrillish.

I must also mention the music and photography, they are to my taste, really well done. Also from NY in the 80's.

I definitely agree with the journalist suggestion that there are a lot of powerful people who would like to have this story silenced.

But..having said that.. in general this is not a story that excites or interests me. Adoptions I mean, no matter how amazing this is. That's why it's not for me.

Please judge for yourself.

It is not the normal and cliché horror movie, but a mysterious story!
14 April 2024
Not bad for a horror movie. I thought it was going to be about the doll but the story is a little more interesting, it's not about one of those dolls that open their eyes and attack you, that's why I liked it more.

I would have given it maybe a 7 if they had taken the opportunity to turn the story into something more dynamic and exciting, the plot is slow.

I also thought it was great that the movie does not become the cliché of a crazy mother and the husband who does not believe her, on the contrary it is quite realistic in its reactions.

I didn't expect the ending, finally something unpredictable in my opinion for this type of movie, judge for yourself. ☺😆

No depth and nothing to learn here.
13 April 2024
I saw the movie in 2 phases, on different days... and I forward some parts with the remote control. I watched it in its entirety because of that little thing that happens sometimes in your head when you want to see what is going to happen in the end. Strange plot.

It's a shame not to have told a better and more realistic story about this couple, Jo and Spencer, the story wastes too much time on a subplot about other nonsense misteries, because most of the movie turns into a cliché of the "paranoid woman who is not believed," which is very common in horror, except that this isn't a horror movie. It's a very superficial exercise in motherhood fears. Spencer, just becomes a husband who reacts in stereotypical ways when his wife starts to have terrified reactions to strange things.

I found all the characters really uninteresting, only the mother in law gave me some chills. By the way, there are also too many repetitive and illogical moments, and there comes a time when you no longer know what is real and not. The baby constantly crying gets on your nerves, and that is precisely what they want in this story, to drive you crazy and to feel what they feel, but in a really very bad way, since it makes you stop watching the movie. Down the volume.

The ending is a real mess full of confusion without any conclusion in my opinion. Nothing to learn here.

I guess that maybe, and only maybe, mothers with problems after pregnancy will like it more????, if that is the case here, because I have reached my own conclusion, but that will have to be decided by those who want to see it.

Despite my criticisms it is a gripping watch!!
12 April 2024
To begin with, the title does not seem well thought out to me at all, and it is not the only thing that is done poorly in this documentary.

I think that this crime story from Canada will appeal primarily to people interested in true crime documentaries, but I must admit as a fan of crime stories, that this one is really dull. They are too many unexplained details, what a disappointment. DNA tests are missing in the house, etc etc..etc..etc .. The most frustrating thing is not having investigated her phone records earlier, incomprehensible! It makes no sense to me.

There are also many repetitive things, to fill time I imagine.

A great part consists of showing archival footage of interviews that Jennifer had with investigators at the Markham police station. Jennifer's father, who is still alive, spoke to police after he came out of his coma, but he's a very minor player in this story and it would have been fascinating to hear more from him. .. I can go on..

There is much more material that they could have used to make a much more interesting and complete documentary, with more respect and responsibility as it should be in these cases. The end seems rushed and a little unclear for me.

For true crime fans who are looking for a quick and interesting crime story, it's worth watching! . It manages to entertaing with some surprising details and twists into it's short running time.

I watch a lot of English police and crime series, and this one is quality, but certainly not one of the best. I'm surprised that it's from 2011, it seems much more recent.

I liked it, it is a black comedy and I think it is a pantomime about crime and mafia series. My review is based on the 1st and 2nd season.

The episodes are short, and although at first I was frustrated by the level of testosterone, the truth is that I couldn't stop it, due to all those continuous and unexpected twists and turns that addictively ask to see more.

The actors are really good, as are some of the dialogues and the creativity of the story, although it is also somewhat tiring to see this group of men arguing about their problems and increasingly distrusting each other while they have other much bigger problems. The humor is good, but it's not something to burst into laughter, but rather bland.

The photography in the Balearic Islands and the landscapes are wonderful, which gives the series a bitter tone almost like the series Death in Paradise, which by the way I like a lot! By the way I am not comparing anything, because they are two very different series.

Judge for yourself, it's refreshing, disturbing and different.
