Hichki (2018)
Awesome movie.
Hichki - 10/10 . Must Watch.
I went to the movie theater after going through multiple mixed reviews from the so-called movie critics.
For those who have seen the trailer, this will be nothing new
Plot: The main protagonist Naina Mathur has Tourette's syndrome who desperately wants to be a teacher. Even after multiple rejections, her decision to take up teaching as a profession remains firm. Finally, she gets offered, a job @ St.Nautkers but her class of 14 is full of rebels. We get glimpses of her childhood, as to how irritating it must have been to have been misunderstood and made fun of. She even shares an estranged relationship with her father. So basically, how she deals with all these hichkis is the story all about.
Its a very simple plot of underdog meets underdogs and how they excel, but to make such a predictable plot interesting and watchable is where lies the craft of cinema. The direction, screenplay, cinematography, casting all in all was top notch. From the word go the movie started connecting. Everything was expressed in a subtle way. Nothing was over the top. There were many tear-jerking moments in the movie. There was never a dull moment. Every single character was bang on.
Coming to performance, the 14 slum students(especially Aatish) were so good at their respective roles. Niraj Kabi as the other teacher was top notch, his transition in body language and dialogue delivery towards the end spoke leaps and bounds about how seasoned an actor he was. Sachin and Supriya as Naina's parents were apt. For obvious reasons, the belongs to Rani Mukerji. Rani as Naina Mathur is brilliant. She has given an outstanding performance which will guide many upcoming actors. No words to express my thoughts about how good an actor she is.
As a die-hard Rani fan, I was nervous. I was just happy seeing her after 4 long years on the silver screen. Had no big expectation from the movie. But oh boy was I taken aback. The movie was something else. It was class apart. It was just awesome. It had the right pinch of ingredients. The main thing about the movie is that there is nothing forced, The music is not loud to drive you emotionally. You are at your own free will. It doesn't try to influence you.
The teacher-student relationship has been portrayed so well. A student will be fortunate to have a Naina Mathur teach them. Everything was intact. You will start reminiscing. It for sure will be a nostalgic experience for many. For the 1st time in my life, I clapped once the movie got over. That was the impact it had on me.
One piece of advice to all the people out here, please comment after watching a movie. Don't mislead people with your prejudice. This movie deserves to be a hit. Only then more of such will be made. All we get to see is stupid masala flicks crossing 100 crores with ease. But movies like Hichki in spite of having a very strong content end up doing an average business, one main reason, without doubt, it has a female protagonist. Come on guys times are changing. Appreciate movie's content. Every teacher/student/parent should watch the movie. Hoping for the movie to do good business. All the best to the team of Hichki.
Padmaavat (2018)
Padmavat - Brilliance par excellence. 10/10
SLB has done it once again. I seriously wonder how he manages to create a movie of epic proportions, that too time and again. I feel so bad for the people who call themselves 'Rajput' protesting against the movie as they fail to notice the fact that the movie is hailing their valour and pride but they themselves are not willing to witness the sheer beauty of art called 'Padmavat'.
There is no better way to exemplify the beauty, courage and morale of the Rajputs. The movie stands tall with a gargantuan finesse which will be unparalleled for years to come.
As always SLB proves he can never go wrong in showcasing opulence at its best. I have no words to describe the beauty of the movie. Every inch of the frame was a visual spectacle. The jewels, ornaments, the weaponry, the clothes, everything was just so alluring that you can't bat an eyelid.
The story was something that needs to be told and kudos to SLB for doing the same and letting us know the eminence of Rajputs.
I do not want to comment on the performances as each and every single actor lived the character. You see Deepika as Padmavati, Shahid as 'Maharawal Ratan Singh' and Ranveer most definitely as 'Sultan Alauddin Khilji' and not as themselves. The supporting actors also did a fabulous job leaving no stones unturned.
The bgm of Padmavati is so very haunting and it has a huge impact.
The emotions were so intact that it manages to hit you hard.
The climax was prodigious to the extent that tears welled up and that impact was intact even after the movie was over and my voice started breaking when I tried to utter anything.
Felt so happy that after a long time I went to a theatre and it was for 'Padmavati'.
It is a must watch.
Mother! (2017)
What were you thinking???
I have to ask this question to every single soul which was in some way related to the movie. I'm not sure what it conveyed or what they wanted to convey. I started feeling irritated as the movie progressed. That irritation kept increasing as it went on. But out of some damn hope that it will get better, I kept watching it but it never ever made me feel good till the very end. Felt very very bad for Jennifer's character throughout the movie. I read some calling it an artistic master piece. I fail to understand from which angle that is so. Definitely not a movie that I would recommend to anybody.
Dora (2017)
Loved it
I actually don't review movies that often, but here I really felt the need to. This is a wonderful one of a kind movie made in tamil cinema. The effort needs to be applauded.
To just sum it up, there is Nayan and her Dad, a happy family of just 2, full of fun and frolic. Then a day comes where in they decide to buy a car and they eventually get one too. It is a possessed car. The twist is that its not just another ghost but its the ghost. The spirit of a dog is in the car.Slowly things start to unravel as to who that dog is, why the car and why it has come to her. Whats its motive is and what needs to be done.
The plot of the movie is very unusual. Its not the typical run of the mill. It was unique. All of us know that a man's best friend is a dog but haven't given due respect to it so far. This film takes it to a new level. The importance given to the dog is immense. If a human can have a ghost why not a dog. For a dog its master is the world. There is nothing else that he thinks about. It was very well depicted and it brought tears rolling down my cheek. Many had problems with the climax too but ultimately its all about the dog. Once its work is done, the movie is also done, why show further.
Coming to performances, the casting was really good. Everybody has done a great job. Nayan, as usual steals the show. the comedy scenes between the father and daughter duo worked. It was subtle and funny.
I would like to sum it all up by saying, we need more such movies. Nayan, please do more such solo movies. I loved it.
It is a must watch for Pet lovers and those who own a pet. They can relate more and feel the pain. for others it might be just another story.
There were minor things which could have been worked on but I would not want to take it away from the makers. I love it.
10/10
Hidden Figures (2016)
There is more to than meets the eye
It's inspired by true life story of three brilliant women(Katherine G johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson) working in NASA. It shows the struggle of African Americans in the early days. Traces the journey of these women from total discrimination and disrespect to a state of self realization and eventually earning them the due respect that they deserved all along. The screenplay is intact with not a loophole for boredom. The story moves on smoothly and it is not dragged for hours together. Crisp and leaves an impact on the viewers. Performance wise, casting was brilliant. Taraji and Octavia just lived the role. Janelle was good too. Kevin Costner needs no introduction and shows that he is not new here. Jim Parsons was exceptionally good. Overall, I loved the movie. The number says it all. I'd say it is a must watch.
Mardaani (2014)
Proud to be a Rani fan
I have no words to express what I am going through. Rani time and again has tried really hard to sustain a movie on her shoulders. She wanted to make a mark. She wanted to show that you don't need a hero for a movie to be good. Finally she triumphs and how . My god what an attempt in showcasing the brutality of reality, the pain and the wrath of millions. Very few movies are applauded by audience and mardaani is one among them. People screaming and cheering for whats being shown clearly depicts how well they relate to the issue and how clearly the team has succeeded in their attempt. This film deserves to be watched by every single human being. There were many cops in Hindi cinema making cars and lorries fly but there will be only one Shivani who touches your heart. People stop making 100 crore masala movies which makes no mark and adds no value. Learn from this team to make meaningful cinema which leaves a mark for eons to come.
- A proud Rani fan.
Sixteen (2013)
Must Watch
To start with I generally am too lazy to write reviews but I had to express my views about this movie as close to zero people know about this movie and a solid positive review is something which will represent my liking towards the movie in a perfect way and even if 1 person decides to watch this movie because of my review, trust me I'll be the happiest person. OK let me cut the crap and go straight down to the content.
It is about teenagers who have different family backgrounds and face different problems in their life. All four main protagonist deal with sensitive issues which was handled very well.
The matters considered and the stuff discussed could have easily crossed the line to becoming vulgar but that never happened. The acting I wouldn't say was great but yeah it was good.
All set and done a socially relevant movie which remains a must watch and can be seen with family. I'm glad that I gave it a try . Started with zero hopes about the movie and ended with a review here, that says it all.
Woh Lamhe ... (2006)
awesome movie
first of all i was not interested in watching the movie .i thought what is going to be special it is going to be just another love story but later when i saw the movie i thought this is one of the best movies .thank god i did not miss such a wonderful movie.the story is a real life story about an actress and a director."kangana" plays the actress and "shiney" the director the love for each other and the affection they share will be amazing.their on screen chemistry was very good the way it is picturised is outstanding."kangana" and "shiney" who played the lead were mind blowing.there are no words to describe their acting skills.the music of the film was too good the songs were very pleasant.they were apt for the situations.overall the film is wonderful
Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007)
good entertainer
i don't know why people hate this movie.im totally surprised.it was a well made movie.the values and the way life has to be lived have been clearly depicted in the movie.there may be a few flaws but the positive points overshadows the negatives.
if we come to the performances except for the small boy everyone does wonderful acting.some scenes were so good that even you the viewer will feel the pain of the character.saif has done a wonderful job and so is rani.
next to this coming to the music of the film, the film had many lovely melodies and very good situational track.overall the film as a whole is a very good package.
my advice would be that never keep your expectations high for any movie.if you do so, if the movie is very good it will look OK and if the movie is good it will look worst.at the end of the day it is your expectation that rules and not the actual content of the movie.
The Grudge (2004)
good movie
it is one of the best horror movies that i've seen.////////////////////
but i accept the fact that it lacks some explanation.////////////////
but definitely it brings your heart out.////////////////////////////// the music of the film plays a major part./////////////////////////////
but they definitely could have given the clear storyline./////////// which was OK from the start and///////////////////////////////////// becomes confused towards the end./////////////////////////////////
but the fright and fear stays////////////////////////////////////// throughout the film. i'll say it was equally good as ring//////////// definitely you will not get bored.thats for sure you'll enjoy it
