Masters of the Universe (1987)
Oh no! Skeletors got stormtroopers!
Give me a break. I used to watch the old he-man cartoon and I can tell you this, there were no laser guns. This movie takes the general idea of he-man and mixes it with the empire from star wars. This does not work well and will certainly offend fans of the series. That being said the cast is good. Dolph lundgren is probably one of the better choices for he-man at that time. Frank Langella plays skeletor to perfection (even if the makeup is a little obvious) and billy barty is a nice addition to the overall cast. Thanks to the cast the movie would have gotten a 6/10 if not for the absence of ortho. I mean they could have gotten rid of that little troll character and put billy barty in a wizards outfit for crying out loud. Overall, for me it earns a 4/10.
Larry & Steve (1997)
Funny Show, where's the rest?
This was a hilarious cartoon short on the What a Cartoon Show. I particularly liked Willie the Xenophobic Scotsman. While it was not eventually made into a series, you can see it sort of set the stage for Family Guy later on.
A Knight's Tale (2001)
A Pleasant Little Romp.
I went into this movie expecting to see an action-filled joust-fest... I was not disappointed. This movie combines great action with comedy. While the plot is (to a degree) predictable, the few plot twist that are present are good and feed the story quite well. Do I think you should go to this movie if you want a serious historical lesson about jousting? No. But if your reason for your wanting to see this movie is to see a funny, action-filled, movie where guys hit one another with big sticks, then I say go for it. Besides "Queen" rocks any movie.
With Honors (1994)
Witty bum meets future mummy-slayer... it works!
As I saw the beginning of this movie I thought it was to be another stupid wise-guys college movie. I have never been so wrong. The movie has an emotional power to it that cannot be described. The wittiness and intelligence of Pesci's performance coupled with Fraiser's loveable (yet powerful) lug of a character are an unquietable combo. All in all, I came out of this movie without a word to say to the people I was with. I was truly moved.
