pure genius
2 October 2002
this black/white movie was 5 years in the making and described by the director Yoshihiko Matsui as " would be a scandal if made into a motion picture." Its focus are the daily lifes of social outcasts in kyoto, misfits and freaks, we have a serial killer, crippled soldiers, an incestuous couple, dwarves and homeless people, all of them struggling to get by. NR is the most uncompromising look at alienation, a raw and violent depiction of society and the gaps it creates. If you ever get the chance to see it, please do so, it´s one of those forgotten masterpieces

big laugh!

how can somebody honestly dislike this movie? to dislike something you must take it serious, and I can´t think how somebody can take THIS serious. I mean, this movie is in the tradition of those 70´s horror schlock-flicks like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST or ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS, just without the gore. brando gives the most laughable performance in his career, kilmer is boring as usual, balk is absolutely unconvincing as brandos vulnerable daughter, temuera morrison ( once were warriors) cracked me up as rasta-ape-henchman, perlman & thewlis really try to be serious in this unintended hilarious misfire. and all those punk-rock chewbaccas really take the cake. all in all you can have a great time.

this movie runs 225 minutes and I loved every second of it. the Hindus really know how to get your attention, and glue you to your seat. i forgot everything while watching it, even my chain-smoking addiction. go see it, and don´t forget other masterpieces like MONSOON WEDDING and ABHAY!

this is the best action no-brainer since schwarzenegger´s COMMANDO. it´s absolutely pointless, the action scenes are totally insane, walken is bored out of his pants, all in all some heck of a laugh. i especially love the fly-by-shooting scene. cracked me up. everytime i watch this masterpiece it makes me gag. watch it with some friends and a huge supply of beer and you have one hell of a party
