A pleasant surprise
10 December 2004
Put this on last night not know anything about it and was pleasantly surprised. The plot was interesting and finished with a nice twist. Stiller and Barrymore worked well together and had a good chemistry, and it was a nice surprise to watch a comedy without too many attempts at silly slapstick.

There are very few laugh out loud moments, but I was smiling on a number of occasions. Definitely reminds me of War of the Roses, which is no bad thing, and the leads play it very well.

I liked the ending too, although I would have gone absolutely mental if I was them. Not what I was expecting at all. Anyone expecting the regular Ben Stiller comedy like Dodgeball will be disappointed but if you approach this with an open mind, you should be OK.

Overall, quite good and a well earned 7 out of ten from me.

Midnight Run (1988)

A rollercoaster of action and fun from start to finish
27 February 2001
Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin star in this action packed and at times hilarious cross country movie. Its a rollercoaster of action and fun for the entire length of its two hour run time. This is one of my five favourite movies of all time, it really is a work of pure quality. Its also got masses of swearing in it so don't watch it with anyone easily offended. Overall this is a must have film, one of De Niro's best films (which is a big statement itself).

Top Notch
7 August 2000
This film is absolutely stunning. Words cannot describe how fantastic this movie is. From the slightly strange beginnings, the subliminal messages and pictures to the stonking sound (on the DVD anyway) of the plane collision. And oh my god, I don't think anyone in the world would guess that for a twist at the end. Totally and utterly fantastic, possibly the best DVD ever made and quite simply one of the best movies of modern times. Do not miss this, it is a definite must buy.

Total garbage (some small spoilers)
5 August 2000
Warning: Spoilers
I was expecting so much more. John Cusack and Cameron Diaz, two of my favourite actors and a wierd plot. As me and my girlfriend settled down to watch this movie on DVD we watched with an open mind. To begin with the humour is strange but very funny, then it gets really wierd, going inside John Malkovich to begin with was funny, then it started to go even stupider. Cameron Diaz started wanting to be a man, the other woman would only go with John Malkovich if Cameron Diaz was inside his head. Erm and thats it. Don't believe the hype, this is pure utter garbage. It is ridiculously stupid and not worth even a rental never mind a purchase.
