Bully (2001)
Nothing esle but exploitation
I had read the book before seeing the movie so I knew what to expect. Although the book and the film claim it is based on a true story, I wonder whether any of it is true. The actions of these kids are just too unbelievable. Were they that stupid? I have discussions with people over this movie and many arguments. Most people who have seen the movie and loved it, tell me that the kids were that stupid and that is the point of the movie. But i just dont buy it. The bottom line is that we will never know what happened that night and days before the death of Bobby Kent. I read a lot about the murder on the Internet and the murderers stories have changed over and over again.
I also feel that Larry Clark was the wrong person to direct this movie. Once again (just like in Kids) he gives the viewer no explanation for the kids actions and no solutions. Basically there is no point to the movie. And the quote "Clark is telling like it is" is becoming annoying. We know how it is. We know that kids kill other kids. But we dont need it to be shoved in our faces with extreme sex and violence. I like sex in movies but I dont like it when it is being exploitive. There is just no point to it. Also Clark's lingering shots of the teenagers bodies feels creepy. After the dreadful "Kids", I thought Clark had matured as a film-maker with the excellent "Another Day In Paradise". I was wrong. Shocking and exploitive movies do not make good movies.
Kids (1995)
Nothing more than pure exploitation
It is amazing how this movie caused such controversy around the time it was released and then ended up being crap. I can not believe how much people like this movie. Its not even a movie. Its more like a documentary but a bad one at that. Its a disgrace that a movie with no plot, no answers, no solutions could be enjoyed so much. The film is nothing more than trash.
The most disturbing part for me is that how Larry clark could take such an important subject matter and exploit it. I do admit though that the film is powerful in parts. For a moment I felt sorry for the girl who had found that she was HIV positive. After that though I didnt care.
But what annoys me the most about this film is that Clark can only keep the viewer interested by being exploitive. Every action or line that comes out of every character's mouth is more shocking then the next. Dont get me wrong though, I like films that shock but I dont like them when there is no point. And with "Kids" there is none.
If you like watching movies and can understand how a good story is structured then many will agree with me that "Kids" is the most over rated movie ever made.
Jurassic Park III (2001)
ONE HELL OF A RIDE
I cant understand why anyone didnt like this movie. Its a popcorn movie.Thats all.Theres not suppose to be any real character developement or real intelligent story. If you ask me,there was more character development in this movie than the first one.I hated the second movie. The basic plot of this was Man vs. Dino. The dialogue was funny at times and the pacing was excellent. If you ask me, this is what a real dino movie is all about. I think the only reason everyone prefers the JP1 was because its was the first of its kind and Spielberg did it.I wasnt expecting much from this but I was surprised how well it turned out.Well done Mr.Johnson
Pet Sematary II (1992)
not great
I remember waiting months for this to be released. The first one was good.Nothing special of course but an effective little horror movie. This movie, however, has nothing really to recommend.Where the first one had a few scary moments, this relies on gore and shocks to entertain.I do love gory movies but this has a mean streak in it.It goes nowhere for half the film with bad dialogue and crap scenes. The actors do their best to give there characters any life.Basically this is a really crap film that you should not see.
Cool as Ice (1991)
I just dont get it...........
How the hell could any film maker make a film so bad.Its baffling but then again it was directed by the guy who destroyed the live version of Inspector Gadget. You can also see he did not get much work for a long, long time after this film.Vanilla struggles with every painful word that he mutters. I enjoyed the film a lot more when Mr.Ice was off screen.Every time I saw his stupid head with his ridiculous jackets I felt like braking the T.V.What makes it worse the film makers actually thought that the public would actually go and see this movie.
However no one did and by the time it was released, Mr.Ice's music career was over and this movie bombed. It deserved more than that......It should be banned
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Well made horror if a little over rated
I have to admit from hearing all the hype that surrounded this movie,I was kind of scared about watching it.But I did and I was a little disappointed. It is disturbing. These killers are a mean bunch of b*****ds.I did actually care for the two kids and their death was disturbing but thats all there is to it.The whole film is really about torture and murder. It seems to get off on it.
I know this was Craven's first movie and he didnt really have clue how to make one so Ill give him credit. It is well made and there is an eerie atmosphere throughout the movie.A lot of people see this movie for its shock value and are all a little disappointed.
Thats what hype does to a movie. But the film has been so hacked by producers, studios and even cinemas that most of the intensity has been taken away.I saw the 84min. version which has been severly hacked. There is also the 91 min which you can purchase in Canada but the best available and probably the most difficult to find is the 102 min.
And if you ever do find it you'll be paying a high price for it.
MacGyver (1985)
THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME
Definitely the best show on T.V.Ok so The A-Team were too......and so was Knight Rider. And wait.......................................... Magnum P.I was excellent as well.Basically all the shows in the 80's were great. This was my favorite though. I really loved the way he could squirm his way out of anything. If MacGyver was stuck on island with a bunch of a hideous and mutated pirates, he would still manage to build a plane out of something with his trustworthy pen-knife and get the hell out of there.Absolute classic
Freaked (1993)
Alex Winter's MASTERPIECE
An absolute riot of a movie. Its a shame this movie never got the attention it deserved. It has a witty script, great visuals and a wonderful cast.I actually heard that when the movie was to be released the film company went bankrupt and the movie was shelved for a couple of years. Its a shame cause its a classic. It has to be one of the funniest films I have ever seen.I saw the director's other film "fever" which was very good as well.I hope we will see more from Alex Winter in the future.AN ABSOLUTE CLASSIC.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
A Gem Of A Movie
I still remember the hype that surrounded this when it was first advertised.Everyone thought it was real including myself.a year later its released and makes millions. Now thats good marketing for you.Only the world were expecting this big great scare and gore fest of a movie. And its far from that.I think people who appretiate movies will love this. Its so cleverly made and thought out. What makes it stands out from the rest is that it relies on atmosphere and imagery to scare you. There are no cheap scares or thrills.Infact we never even get to see the witch. If people could just watch how these characters mentally breakdown rather then wondering when all the gore is going to happen then maybe it would be alot scarier. It scared the crap out of me.
The Skateboard Kid (1993)
WHY???????????
I dont even know why Im writing this.Maybe because this movie so bad.I mean its beyond bad.How the hell can film studios release such crap movies. Its baffling.I can understand it. I doubt anyone will read this review because even the title sounds dumb but if you do avoid like the plague. It has a crappy acting, directing and a talking skateboard.Yes, a talking skateboard.I cant even imagine kids liking this s**t
Bless the Child (2000)
OH MY GOD........HOW THE MIGHTY HAS FALLEN
I still cant believe Kim Basinger has sinked this low.
I still cant believe Chuck russel has sinked this low.
I still cant believe Christina Ricci has sinked this low.
I am a huge fan of movies.Infact , Ive never really said anything bad about a movie in my life.I can always find something in a movie that I like. But this was not the case with Bless The Child.Absolutely nothing worked. Dialogue was terrible. Acting just as bad. None of it made any real sense. There were so many plotholes that I lost count. Even the F/X WERE BAD. I think the main problem is that the movie actually trys to take itself seriously.Ive never laughed so much at amovie in my life.It has to be the worst movie Ive ever seen.Kim Basinger should be ashamed.I feel sorry for Jimmy Smiths
Natural Born Killers (1994)
disturbing, violent but ONE HELL OF A RIDE
I got this film in America because it is banned here.It was the uncut version. The performances are great, especially Tommy lee Jones and Robert Downey Jnr.It is well made and visually stunning. However,I do have a problem with it.Oliver Stone pumps the movie with so much energy, colour and flashy editing that the viewer has little time to even breath. The point he is trying to make seems to get lost between his stylish imagery and it does feel at times that we are suppose to be on Mickey and Mallorys side. Its as if they are heros. I think people either hate this movie or love it.I have to say I love it.Never has a movie blown me away as much as this does.It has its flaws but its one hell of a ride.
MAYBE THE PEOPLE WHO HATED THIS MOVIE SHOULD WATCH IT AGAIN
Braindead (1992)
One of the best zombie flicks ever
What can you say about Peter Jackson? The man is a genius.Never has a movie been so gloriously sick.He puts together everything imaginably disgusting and throws it right at you.The story is set in New Zealand 1957.A young man who engages in a romance with a women is kept on a leash by his widowed mother. When she is bitten by a "rat monkey" she turns into a putrefying zombie, hungry for human flesh and the young couple"s love becomes sorely tested. As all hell breaks loose, the back-yard special effects come into their own, each topping the last for comic and emetic efect. At first just plain outrageous, the film deteriorates into a numbing freak show, although Jackson"s sick invention stil manages to surprise. That is why this movie is the best of the zombie flicks.Highlights of the movie include a hypodermic needle repeatedly plunged up a nostril,a baby in a blender,a farting, disembodied rectum,a kung-fu priest, two zombies having sex and a lawnmower used as a weapon which has to be seen to be believed.Rent it,buy it..... do what ever but make sure you see it.A must-see for all horror and gore fans
