Les mercredis de la vie: Grossesse nerveuse (1993)
A pleasant surprise of a comedy, that is quite contemporary
Once a year in mid-September, the buffs in Fiji are treated to a week of French movies, and though this year features 10, only 2 have stood out so far, one of them being this quirky yet hilarious take on some contemporary social issues.
An ad man works with his ex-wife in a dog food company, while he has a phobia of dogs. He is content with a bachelor's life kept company by his love of plants. When he learns that a girl he spent time with is pregnant, his life is disrupted. He wants her to have an abortion, which she doesn't; his mother is an advocate for child planning, preferably no children, and his ex-wife now wants a child.
Constant laughs in a movie that gets better by the minute. The English title (False Pregnancy) is a bit ambiguous, and I'd guess the literal translation would be 'Big Worry', where the ad man always has a nose bleed when it occurs. Lots of animal humour as well.
