Corky Romano (2001)
The Horror....The Horror
Wow. Some movies just leave me speechless. This was undeniably one of those movies. When I left the theatre, not a single word came to my mouth. All I had was an incredible urge to slam my head against the theatre wall to help me forget about the last hour and a half. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Honestly, this movie has nothing to recommend. The humor was at the first grade level, at best, the acting was overly silly, and the plot was astronomically far-fetched. I hearby pledge never to see an other movie starring Chris Kattan or any other cast-member of SNL.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
One of those movies...
Have you ever been to one of those movies that is just so powerful and breathtaking that it leaves you utterly speechless after the movie lets out? Well, this certainly qualifies as one of those films. Although the story was a bit of fiction (they somehow left out the real reason Nash left Wheeler Labs), it was actually a beautiful, inspiring and powerful story. In addition to the excellent story and directing, the acting was fabulous. When we sat down in the theatre, I said to my girlfriend "Russell Crowe has a monumental task ahead of him: convincing me that he's a math dork, not General Maximus or Officer Bud White." I have to say that if anyone deserves an Oscar this year it is Russell Crowe. He makes the audience compassionate for his character in a way that is not often seen. Paul Bettany, Jennifer Conolley, and Ed Harris were also excellent in the supporting cast. Overall, I gave this movie a '10.' It is rare when Hollywood puts out such a wonderful movie. I know this movie changed me, and I'm sure it will change you.
