Sin: The Movie (2000 Video)

Pure crap
29 June 2001
One of the dumbest animes I've seen, ever. And one of the worst movies overall to boot. Not as bad as "Dude, where's my car?" but that's probably only because this one is quite short (the only redeeming quality of the movie).

Stupid "plot", boring animation, horrible voice overs and bland action. Not the best recipe for a successful anime in my book.

Avoid.

Supernova (I) (2000)
8/10
A really interesting and enjoyable sci-fi adventure
27 February 2001
I rented this one on a whim and I am glad I did. The actors are doing a great job (James Spader is *a lot* better than in Stargate), the setting is great and the story works great, despite the re-editing.

The movie steers clear from tried and true ways of handling space travel and other clichés without becoming to unbelievable and strained. I like the ending of the released version (I haven't seen the DVD version yet which has an alternate ending) and on the whole the movie doesn't become to cute or predictable.

All in all a good sci-fi adventure that deserves a much higher score than the 4 it's been given here. The movie is quite interesting and exciting although the editing has left one or two rough cuts that makes you think twice but nothing that infers with the enjoyment of the movie.

If you like sci-fi you can do a lot worse than Supernova (although the title is a bit misleading). Mission to mars, Battlefield Earth and Astronauts wife are all *way* lousier than this one.

A really likeable little film

Not as cute as a lot of other animated movies although it has it's fair share of moral lectures. The graphics are well-done and the voices fit the characters well. I found the environments to be believable and the end not too typical. 8)

All in all a film to check out if you don't mind animated movies.

Muppets Treasure Island (1996 Video Game)
7/10
The best Muppet / pirate movie ever made!
22 May 2000
This is a really funny movie, almost even if you don't like the Muppets or pirates. The jokes are very 'muppetesque', almost with a little Monty Python thrown into the mix. Tim Curry does a great job as does the Muppet cast. The story isn't much to talk about, get to Treasure Island and grab the loot, but it doesn't matter as the characters and the situations they get themselves into are what's worth seeing.

If you're bored, give this one a try!

Made Men (1999)

A pleasant surprise.
22 May 2000
This movie surprised me in a good way. From the box I got the impression that it was an action thriller but it was too funny to be a thriller, even though it was somewhat exciting.

There's a lot of nice one-liners and funny situations in this movie and James Belushi was born to do Bill Manucci, he does a great job. The rest of the cast ain't half-bad either and especially Timothy Dalton is a treat.

The story can get pretty confusing at times as new characters shows up during the film. Things get more complicated as nobody seldom tells the truth about things. If you don't pay attention things might get a bit messy in the end but I really liked it.

Louis Morneau isn't all that well known but he has done a perfectly OK job with this one and I never really grew impatient while watching the movie.

Made men is well worth checking out.

I really liked it.

This is a fun movie if you can laugh at people totally without a clue. The two brothers have no idea whatsoever and constantly make fools out of themselves although they think they're the coolest people on the planet.

The story isn't to much to care about, it's the situations that arise wherever the two brothers show up that makes the movie worth watching.

A comparison with Dumb & Dumber isn't all wrong but 'A night at the Roxbury' isn't as childish as that one, the brothers aren't really that stupid, just clueless.
