A Ring of Endless Light (2002)
Well...It has dolphins!
I'm sorry...but this movie was flat out horrible. The story and dialogue were so delusional, I couldn't help but change the channel on the complete waste of time. It does have dolphins, however, if you even want to call these cheaply animated and designed pieces of rubber such. The acting was pretty bad too, but I guess this is partly to blame because of the horrible script.
Why did I sit through this movie you asked if it was so horrible? I know one of the actors...thats it. Jared, ya might want to take your time and pick worthy projects to do...don't waste your time on crap like this...well at least you weren't doing something like MacGyver...that would be so crappy...oh....wait....nevermind.
Monster's Ball (2001)
Excellent Acting, Directing and Story...but lacks in filling...
Since I heard about this movie, I wanted to see it. I knew that both Thorton and Berry were supposed to be excellent as their portrayal of a lost retired executioner and a grief-stricken black woman finding each other in rural Georgia. Their acting was great as expected and Berry as a good chance of being nominated for an Academy Award. The direction was also excellent. The story itself was put together perfectly and pulled the right number of heart strings to give the movie a sense of despair, but not too many to make the movie feel false. However, there are many loose ends that are not tied up at the end of the film and leaves you with many questions. However, the film itself is a masterpiece but really only intended for mature audiences.
Gladiator (2000)
A future classic...
When I had first seen the previews for this movie back in 1999, I was extremely uninterested. When talk about this movie began to stir in April I realized that it may be worth seeing. I made a great choice. I read the review in the paper that only gave it two stars...two stars? It said that the movie lacked character development and dialogue....rubbish! That was all it was...Russel Crowe put so much character into his role Maximus, that you knew him by the end like a friend. The scenes are eye candy to watch and the action scenes of course are dazzling and well choreographed. It has been a long time since I have seen a movie that has had this much of an impact on me. A future classic for all generations to come. Ridley Scott did an incredibly fine job on this epic.
Hokuto no Ken (1986)
Dragonball Z style...only with exploding heads!!!
I was recommended to rent this movie by a friend. I have seen some good anime recently and I usually look for art and animation direction and of course plot. Art and animation have this movie down solid, plot on the other hand is nothing more than boy loves girl, boy loses girl, boy fights bad guys to girl, boy saves day. Nothing gets complex like in Ghost in the Shell or Wind Named Amnesia. Oh yeah, did I mention everyone's head explodes in this movie. Ususally it only takes one punch and BOOM...no more head...and I guess that would mean lots of blood right? yes, I have never seen that much blood...ever! It is very bloody. It is a good anime if you want your mind to just relax. The ending has some beautiful art work. I gave it 8 stars merely because the animation and art were great...if it lacked these (e.g. Speed Racer) then it would have sucked royally.
