Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love (2001)
really bad cinematography
As I saw this movie with the original indian soundtrack and I do not understand the language I had plenty of time to have look on the cinematography. I haven't seen anything like it. There are some things you just don't do with a wide angle lense. You don't pan indoors (as it gives weird distortions to the image). And you don't put it on a desk when you want to film people standing on both sides of it. This resulted in a screen filled with a huge desk and very thin bowed people on the far ends of the screen. Probably the worst thing of the movie was, that I heard it would be one of the better indian movies. Poor people.
Cecil B. Demented (2000)
"Death to mainstream cinema!"
I really enjoyed this movie. Though, it won't make it to my top ten. John Waters obviously hates the same movies as I do. I had a great time watching the characters bashing on Hollywood movies. "Patch Adams does not deserve a Director's Cut!" But it was disappointing for me to find out that this movie was obviously no low budget movie. Waters is a part of the industry he critizes. "Family is just a nice word for censorship!"
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992)
Watch it on the Big Screen
The first 4 or 5 times I watched this movie I had to watch it on television (video). I really did like it, I thought it was a great movie. Until the day I had the chance to watch it in our local cinema ... I had to realize this movie is even better. It "works" much better on the Big Screen (and perhaps you have to know it to enjoy it...).
Idioterne (1998)
As realistic as real life
This is one of the most realistic movies, I have ever watched. Let's start with the plot. It's too obscure to be fantasy, isn't it. The characters are just like real life characters. When, in real life do you know why something happens or why somebody is acting the way he does? Never. And it's just like this with this movie. You only know what you are told and this information is very subjective. The optic of Dogme95 gives this movie what it needs to be "authentic". I definitely liked The Idiots, even (better: because) it was very upsetting.
The Hi-Lo Country (1998)
When men were still men, and women were still horses ...
This was definitely one of the worst "1 Point Movies" I´ve ever seen. This movie was so masculine. All the Protagonist should have died of an Testosterone overdose after 5 minutes. After seeing this we know, what's the difference between your horse and your wife: You can´t ride on your wife and catch a cow with your lasso.
Deep Impact (1998)
My brain hurts.
Oh my brain hurts. The whole movie i waited for the comet to crash into earth and to end this cruelty. This movie had nothing. No interesting plot, no action, no cool special effects, not even sex. There were some small uninteresting stories like the two ugly teenagers with their "oh i love you so" kiddie-love, or this journalist and her father who get (thank god) washed away by this oh so big flood wave. Aaaahhhhhrrrrrggggg! The ultimately most terrible movie i have ever seen.
Titanic (1943)
Titanic as German Nazi-Propaganda
This film was planned by Josef Goebbels as Nazi-Propaganda. But because of the changing situation in Germany the film was obsolete until it was finished. Goebbels feared that it could wake the wrong emotions and kept it out of the cinemas. With this background it is quite interesting to see the methods of propaganda used for this film. You should watch Titanic as a kind of education or a time-document and not for (pure) entertainment.
