Kids (1995)
Ugh
This movie is disgusting. And yeah, it's a 'realistic' portrait of today's youth, and i'm not one to turn from reality, and i'm by no means a prude, but i just don't want to see 13 year olds having sex. It really is gross. The film succeeded in delivering a haunting and disturbing view of the life of kids today, but the sex seemed (even though i know it was somewhat vital to the plot, but did they really have to show it??) more of a shock-value device, rather than being used for an accurate depiction of youth.
City of Angels (1998)
I want to throw up
OKay this movie was terrible. Nicholas Cage sounded like he was being choked the whole time, and Meg Ryan was so pixie-like i wanted to shoot her. Cage wasn't beautiful or heavenly at all, he seemed more psycho and creepy if anything. And was i mistaken..were all the angels men??? There wasn't an ounce of chemistry between Ryan and Cage, and i actually didn't feel sorry for either of them at the end (The cheesy end!)
Farinelli (1994)
Beautiful
This film was great. Even if the singing looked a little fake at times, and there was a bit too much sex than was really necessary, but a great film, with beautiful music. I thought more emphasis would have been put upon the anguish and degradation Farinelli might have felt, and more stress on the love/hate relationship the public had with the castrati, but definitely a film worth seeing.
