The version dubbed into English is terrible
1 January 2024
The English dubbed version is terrible.

1. Too many current turns of phrase. It might be bad dubbing

2. Probably just two voices in total: one male and the other female

3. There seems to be another sub-plot in the movie about investing in trains vs shipping

4. The clothes the characters are wearing are too clean

5. The characters are too healthy

6. The characters have great teeth

7. Lots of detail about the chemical analysis process

8. Overall it isn't clear what's going on

9. Bizarre distractions like a red rain in the middle of exhumations

10. The film should've been edited better: lots of filler

I couldn't finish the film.

Popeye (1980)
Mixed opinions
2 June 2001
I saw this movie only now, some 21 years after it was made. I grew up watching a lot of "Popeye" on television as a kid. Reading the other user comments now I realize I enjoyed the later cartoon versions.

I felt the movie dragged on and on - almost like the makers of the movie were trying to pay homage to every scene in every "popeye" cartoon/comic strip ever made.

So why did I sit through it? - because of Olive Oyl and Popeye. Duvall jerks about and twists and turns just like the cartoon character. I believed I was seeing an animatronics creation for the movie! And Williams was great as Popeye.

I was hoping desperately for the part where Popeye kisses her and Olive Oyls legs go up in the air and tap together like in the cartoons. Since they so very dutifully put in all the other stuff from the cartoons, I was hoping for this part. No such luck.

I don't want to rate this movie because like I said, I have mixed opinions.

To everyone who watched Popeye cartoons regularly as a kid - "sit through this one!"

Neutralizing the bomb was original
13 June 1999
The film is standard stuff:1) Bombs are stolen 2) None but the americans seem to have figured it out or care. 3) One of the bombs is headed for NY.

The music is really good. I like the villian's point though I don't think it explains why his family had to die.

The best part - where they de-activate the bomb by causing the explosion from the explosives to not implode (and hence detonate) the plutonium - was pretty original if not correct and realistic.

I loved the movie for the above and the music.

Dark (side of the) Force?! Crucifixion?
8 March 1999
Real weird movie. Set someplace in Europe - well at least much of the later bit. The "tone" of the movie is real different. Won't spoil things by describing the story.

I don't think I understood it much, unless it's like Luke and Darth Vader and the Dark (side of the) Force and the Emperor in Star Wars.

Or is it more like Christ dying on the cross to prove that he's ticked everyone off? To prove he would die for our sins? A bit of all three maybe.

What do you'll think? veliath

Since You've Been Gone (1998 TV Movie)
Original and Funny
22 January 1999
The film is very watchable, but the story seems to lack direction. At the end of the movie not everyone is living happily ever after. But thats perhaps why it feels original.

The story's a comedy about a class reunion where people find out how much they have changed and how they have not.

I liked the movie. They should have more like this.
