Keeping the Faith (2000)
Love and friendship between three friends.
This is a serious yet silently funny film about love and friendship.
The three friends met in school and they meet again after about ten years, all grown-up and beautiful. The two boys have chosen to become a rabbi and a priest and the girl is corporate career girl. The two boys falls even more in love with her than their original friendship-love.
The acting is good. Anne Bancroft as the rabbi's mother is interesting. Milos Forman as the older priest is also interesting. This is the first film in which I was aware of him as an actor. Jenna Elfman, Ben Stiller and Edward Norton is all very good, if not better than I ever saw them before.
The ending is sweet and sorrow in some aspects. I cried and laughed a lot when I saw this lovely film. Handkerchiefs is a must when watching this film.
Cross of Iron (1977)
This is a film worth seeing about war and WWII in particular.
This is a film about the insanity of war and the pinning of medals and heroes from people that were far from the battlelines. There are heroes in war of course, but they are not always the ones you expect.
The Iron Cross is one of the best war-films I ever have seen. It is a rare film since it is about german soldiers during WWII.
It is about a pluaoon of german soldiers during the russian campaign after Stalingrad in 1942. A new captain is arriving and he is set on "winning" a Iron Cross. The Iron Cross was and perhaps the famous of all german military medals. It is only given to those who have distinguished themselves in battle, above and beyond the call of duty. This Captain Standsky is really set on "winning" a Iron Cross. He does not care about how he get "his" Iron Cross. The soldiers in this plutoon are a different kind of soldiers than he expected.
The actors in this film made outstanding performances, especially James Mason and James Coburn. Their performances made this film for me.
This film is a must-see-film and I would hope that it will be shown in schools to show war and the insanity of wars, as well as other films and TV-series about war.
The Power of One (1992)
Praise for this film and stunning performances.
This film is stunning, frightening, enchanting and do not leave you indifferent. Superb acting from all actors in this film. I find this films message about that the power of one, as in one drop of water which in turn become brook, rill, river or waterfall, especially enchanting and uplifting.
One film that I can recommend, which has nearly the same message about togetherness and unity. In which one of the actors from this film is also playing male leadrole. It is the film "Lean on me" and Mr Morgan Freeman. If you liked this film I think you will like "Lean on me".
