Raid (2003)
Robbers and Cops fight the system
The plot of Raid continues the one of the earlier TV-series: the system (politicians and corporate world) is corrupted, and the "little people" have to find alternative ways to deal with the situation.
The movie is strangely professionally done for a Finnish one. All the characters have appropriate actors, who are able to add some depth into their performance from the TV-series. However, as a stand-alone movie this could be a little hard to follow specially in the beginning, since the "sequel-feeling" is quite strong.
Planet of the Apes (2001)
Excellent masks, but a major disappointment
I entered the theater enthusiastically after waiting to see this film for a long time. And after 60 minutes I was equally enthusiastic to see the end credits and to be able to walk away from the theater.
The ape masks were excellent, and the music was quite ok, though a bit ordinary to my taste, but I think that nothing else delivered. I continuously had the feeling the Burton had wanted to say something, but he was in so much haste, that before he was able to say the punch line the next scene had already started.
Since this was a fantasy flick I did my best to out any reality checks away, but I still think that extremely beautiful make-up should not be expected from a lady living in wilderness.
