Ahead of the Horror Channel premiere of his sci-fi action thriller G-loc, director Tom Paton reflects on why making movies is like solving a puzzle, his passion for survival stories and being compared to Roger Corman.
Horror Channel will be broadcasting the UK TV premiere of your Sci-fi adventure G-loc. Excited or what?
It’s honesty so strange to me every time Horror Channel debuts one of my movies. The channel has been such a big part of my life growing up and informing my taste in films, that it’s always a “pinch myself moment” when I see something that I’ve made appear on their TV listing. G-loc is much more of a Sci-fi adventure than any of my previous movies, so it’s great that Horror Channel is supporting it and bringing it to UK audiences.
How difficult was it getting the film off the ground? It was shot in Yorkshire,...

It seems like just 57 days ago that I was writing my review of G-Loc, starring the ever so awesome Casper Van Dien and I wondered for the most briefest of moments how long it would be before Paton was back on set. Turns out that ship had sailed and 400 Bullets was coming out! After making the move from the potato fields to an actual physical soundstage with Goldfinch Studios, Tom and his Dop (and soulmate) George Burt decided to put bricks and mortar to the relationship that had been building with producer Steve Mosley as they built their own studio.
We have seen this team tackle post apocalyptic, vampires, elder gods, a timey-wimey staircase and space colonization… So I guess it was high time we added some all out butt-kicking action to the repertoire with 400 Bullets.

2020 has been awful for most of us due to the pandemic and the start of this year is no better. Although new movies are not really being made, we are still getting release after realease. I find myself less interested in checking out the big-budget stuff like Tenet and can’t seem to find excitement for Wonder Woman 84. Instead I find myself turning to the lower budget, but way more outlandish, projects that serve up a nice big bowl of escapism. Movies like Knuckledust, Come Away or GLoc.
Recently the trailer for a new Scott Adkins movie dropped called The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud and straight away I was in for this one. I mean come on, Scott Adkins channelling his...

"All we have to do is keep the chip safe..." Shout Factory has revealed an official trailer for 400 Bullets, another jingoistic military action movie from British action filmmaker Tom Paton. The film is set in Afghanistan at a British military outpost, and is described as an "edge-of-your-seat, military actioner about what it means to fight for honor instead of profit." Nice try making this sound like something it isn't. 400 Bullets combines gun battles, epic hand-to-hand fight sequences and the banter of hardened soldiers into a lean, two-fisted film that packed with a wallop. The film boasts a stellar British cast of Jean-Paul Ly, Andrew Lee Potts, James Warren, Adele Oni, Steve Blades, & Wayne Gordon. Have a look below. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Tom Paton's 400 Bullets, direct from Shout's YouTube: One cold winter night in ...

Right spoilers on my verdict out of the way first…. I keep saying a lot lately that we are smack dab in the middle of an independent movie surge in the UK, with some truly fantastic directors, actors, producers and DOPs all standing up and being counted. Whatever your genre you can find something for you – from quality horror with the Shudder lockdown movie Host, straight up sci-fi with Tom Paton’s G-Loc, a sports drama with Sam Gitten’s vehicle Break or martial arts action with Kung Fu Matty’s Tribal: Get Out Alive… One other independent UK movie that I managed to check out recently that fits the same category is Knuckledust. Honestly, I was intrigued by the cast, the synopsis and that poster above which has...

It’s pretty obvious by now that I am a fan of this man and his crew… I always look forward to seeing what he has cooked up in his labyrinthian mind and knowing that this time he had a well known studio (Goldfinch and Lionsgate) and some pretty big names onboard I was somewhat excited to check out G-loc… Oh and did I mention we were treading on some straight up sci-fi territory this time! of course I say straight up but when has Paton ever let his movies be confined to just one genre.
Of course this time we have what looks to be more of a tastier budget than we are used to and with that comes some bigger names and...

"Someone is trying to sabotage the mission." Lionsgate has released a trailer for an epic sci-fi thriller titled G-Loc, one of the latest films from genre filmmaker Tom Paton. The title G-Loc is a reference to an actual aerospace physiology term: "G-force induced Loss of Consciousness - a loss of consciousness occurring from excessive and sustained g-forces." This is sort of in the plot - they try to save a ship being pulled by gravity into a planet. In a world on the brink of collapse, mass migration to neighboring planet, Rhea, is humanity's final hope for survival. The only problem is, Rhea has become intolerant towards new settlers. 'Earther', Bran, has big dreams of a better life in this new world, but the odds are stacked against him. Confronted with a dangerous journey in a damaged spaceship, Bran must face an even greater threat: a hostile planet. G-Loc stars Stephen Moyer,...

As part of our support for the launch of Tom Paton’s new film The Ascent on VOD, here’s an interview with actor and regular Tom Paton collaborator Toby Osmond, who appears in the film as Jack Ford.
The Ascent follows a group of mercenaries, who are sent to Eastern Europe in the middle of a civil war to retrieve intel. Shortly after the mission, the unit find themselves trapped on a never-ending stairwell; forced to climb or die. To survive, they must revisit their past sins if they ever want to get off.
The Ascent reminded me of Michael Mann’s The Keep, which was sort of his lost film…
To: I’ve heard people say that The Ascent reminds them of a cross between Ringu and Time…something, I get the Ringu reference because of the monster in our film, but I’ve not seen The Keep.

Following a week of protests in the aftermath of the police killing of George Floyd, Meek Mill dropped a hard-hitting new song that tackles the issues of racial inequality in America.
“Other Side of America” opens with a clip of Donald Trump lobbying to African-American voters during a 2016 campaign rally: “You’re living in poverty. Your schools are no good. You have no jobs. Fifty-eight percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?”
From there, Meek Mill paints a vivid picture of life on “the other side of America.
