Nice but wanting
sokoldaniel30 September 2019
I believe it could have been much better if it was a two part episode, feels way too rushed towards the end, that there is even a joke about it, that the makers didnt bother to finish the story

the characters were much more alive, but in the end it went nowehre

too bad, there was a lot of potential

Could have been much better than it was

Warning: Spoilers
Most of this episode isn't that bad. For the first two acts the jokes are consistently funny. Peter being told to do what he usually does on a day at work, which includes talking trash about the boss right in front of him and commenting about wanting to bang his wife. Or Peter having random gay flashbacks when he thinks he's gonna die. The best joke however comes when Peter's family comes on the cruise unannounced and his friends beg Lois in a really over-the-top manner not to tell their wives or send any pictures. Donna breaking a glass box having the cliché "Friends who don't like your husband" was particularly funny.

Peter hearing about Bob Welch dying was amusing if only for the punchline where Stewie in the midst of everyone mourning asks who the fu''ck that even was. It wasn't as funny the other two times though.

The humor got more hit-and-miss when the ship started sinking, but I was intrigued to see how Peter's family and friends would get out of the danger they find themselves in.

Aaaaand... we never see it. We just cut to them back home and then we end on a completely random unfunny bit with Casey Kasem as a radio host. Why would you build up all that suspense just to pull the rug under the audience? It's not funny or clever, just makes you feel like the whole thing was pointless. Talk about wasting a great premise.

Chris trying for a full minute to throw Meg's boyfriend's head and Cleveland talking about apples for no reason could have easily been cut out to advance the plot more and give it a real conclusion.

And finally, that shot of Bonnie cheating on Joe made me groan. All the jokes about Joe and Bonnie's failing marriage are just sad and depressing instead of funny.

In general, not terrible by any means, but a disappointing way to open the season.

Funny Start Declines Into Messy, Painful Slog
hermesv-4174030 September 2019
My expectations for the show have never been high but the first 8 minutes was decently funny. As soon as the yacht plot begins, there is a tangible decline of quality. Honestly with as much as the family contributes to the epsiode, they shouldn't have been in it. Louise contributes nothing, Chris and Stewie have a weird dynamic that comes out of left field, Brian literally has two lines of dialogue the entire episode and Meg's subplot is just painful to watch on top of being needlessly disgusting. Even though this is supposed to be a "Peter and The Gang" story, Joe, Cleveland, and Quagmire have and do nothing of consequence. This episode feels like an excuse to make outdated jokes about singers Seth McFarland liked as a kid. Not the worst episode but very boring despite what the outline of the plot would suggest

Disappointing season opening episode. Like what was that... Expected much more, there's a huge hole in ending, you can't just skip some parts and finish episode.

One of The Top 10 WORST Family Guy Episodes ever!
orionxp30 September 2019
Episode was a complete disaster! The story was choppy and incomplete, the jokes were awful and that constant shouting half the time was completely unnecessary! I've watched all the seasons and since the last one thing are definitely been going down! Shame...

Funny Start

Warning: Spoilers
As a huge fan of this show, watched the whole series at least twice, this was pretty funny. Four things I liked:

1) Donna's Scene 2) Moment Meg's Love Interest is decapitated 3) Casey Kasem Parody 4) Peter Griffin's Final Line

After I watched the entire episode, that last line from Peter made me laugh so hard, because in my mind I was wondering how they were going to get out of this one.

What I didn't enjoy: -Cleveland and Joe's interactions -Lois -Brian's Exclusion -Hardly Any Cutaway Gags

If you thought this ep was funny, you have no sense of humor
rsvp3211 October 2019
It would have been a better episode if Peter fought the chicken the whole time.

Unbelievable how bad this show's getting. After FG's disastrous last season, it's too late to go out with class on a high note.

Pull the plug, Seth - admit you've lost steam on this one.

What happened here?
costegoga25 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For some reason when they got on that cruise ship I instantly remembered the tidlewave storyline from Sunset Beach soap opera. What happened here was almost the same, the tidlewave, the capsizing of the ship, climbing up to the hull and wanting to cut through to get out. Except they didn't get to do that, they just cut the scene to their home. That was a,, wtf?! " moment. Kinda disappointing episode and not so funny.

Family Guy, did you get married? Because you've really let yourself go
spedwards-8427630 September 2019
Look, I love the show with all my heart. But you're doing a disservice by making this a season premiere. If you're out of ideas just own up to it and stop making the show. I know it's a stable paycheck but would you rather be in control of your own destiny or just find out one day you've been canceled due to low ratings? The latter is going to happen, and it'll be a sad day. I love this show to death but it's time to put it down. Season 16 was a great reprisal that 17 was a slip back again and this premiere doesn't give me any confidence for this season. Whatever group of writers is in charge doesn't have "it". The show doesn't have a spark anymore, it doesn't have wit, it's out of touch, or maybe, trying too hard to be relevant to today's kids. What made Family Guy a success back in the day, whatever magic they had in the first 8 seasons, I really hate to say it, sincerely, is gone; the tank has been running on fumes since season 9 and now lay empty. Please just end the show and spare me feeling this bad about a show I love. It's like when your grandfather fights you taking the keys away when they're 85 and they've already run over somebody's kid, twice. Please just let it go.

I know this is an unhelpful review but
10086cn30 September 2019
I've been super hyped over this. As soon as the first episode of Season 18 of Family Guy came out, I sure as hell was ecstatic, and I don't ever remember being this hyped over something before in my life. It's come to the point where I honestly don't care whether the episode is good or bad, just as long as I watch it (which I have done), I'm still going to like it.

There was a reason why Nathaniel Bandy praised Super Mario 3D World when it first came out, to the point where he put it at #2 in his old version of the "Top 10 Mario Games" video. That dilemma applies here, and it's the reason why I give this episode 10/10. I've never been this hyped over something before.

It's still goes downhill.
Coolmade20003 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As the season premiere, I was hoping this episode would recover and improve the show after so many seasons of "okay" writing. I was wrong.

I'm pretty sure this episode and the future episodes are developed a long time ago. So in a way, it's no surprise that the quality of the show is still not at its best like the early seasons.

The joke about Bob Welch's death in 2012 is unnecessarily used as a filler to fill in gaps for the plot.

The scene where Chris tries to throw Meg's cruise boyfriend's severed head did feel too long.

To be honest, I do understand what the writers tried to deliver, and the joke they tried to present is similar to the time Peter poked holes in the frog to give to Chris: a scene with dialogue and silly physical comedy. It worked back then, but it's really hard to recapture that same type of comedy because, nowadays, everything evolves to new and original content. Therefore, this scene does feel more like an imitation of the "frog" scene.

The ending to this episode also feels cheated by going the cheap route. The Griffin family & Peter's friends are about the drown inside the cruise only to later cut to all of the characters back at the house. Perhaps it was written to be another joke. If so, then it wasn't well delivered.

On a side note, the show's animation gets better each season.

Poor start to the season
markjohnevans7930 September 2019
For a season premiere this was mediocre at best. The story felt disjointed, there were characters present that really added nothing and there was very little to hold your attention. Worst of all it fell into that lazy writing thing that happens way too often on Family Guy where a joke is strung out for too long , done obviously because the writers clearly couldn't fill up an entire episode so had to stretch things out. Family Guy is always hit or miss - file this episode under miss.

I didn't find the episode funny at all. I think I laughed once and it was a mere chuckle. It was super rushed and didn't feel like the put much effort into it

Uninteresting and Bad Ending
crusherboy-433745 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The whole episode just felt like a bunch of jabs at various celebrities, and there was a sub-plot about Meg and a gross boyfriend which barely lasted five minutes. The conclusion of the episode was a "hasty wrap-up" gag which has already been used before. It was pretty bad overall, but not as terrible as others such as Con Heiress.

Couldn't help but ask myself what was happening. No attempt to make the viewer laugh. Don't know why Brian was in this epsiode. Joe and the gang had nothing much to do. Terribly Disappointed

Becoming worse
francogrex16 October 2020
I used to like Family Guy but the recent seasons are becoming worse, nothing funny a lot of boring fillers. Is someone shouting or repetitively saying the same thing for 5 min funny? No it's crap and I stop watching this show.

One of the worst.
zwghjbfmzz10 June 2021
Im a long time fan of the show but this episode was honestly one of the worst. The script was all over the place. The jokes weren't well timed and none of them landed. Did the same bob welch joke 4 times, no one on earth got that one. The beginning of the episode was forced and the end was forced as well. The only good part was when they found Brian and even that scene was mediocre. I honestly felt second hand embarrassment for the writers. Not gonna lie, the whole season felt like it was written by a hamster.

No Ending
kbrady251 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Episode had potential but never went anywhere. The ending was just lazy. The episode climaxed with everyone about to drown then cuts to Griffens in their living room saying "Man that was crazy." Episode seemed like writers were in a rush to finish. 3/10

Really funny premiere!
jonahnathan1 November 2019
I loved the episode very much, lots of raunchy humor, lots of good cutaways, and even more! Some bits drag on, Family Guy do that! That's something they could definitely work on. Apart from that, really entertaining, and wanted to get to the next episode straight away!

Hilarious episode and I loved it! Favorite line is Chris ridiculing Peter for making fun of celebrities. "You're nothing."
