When will people learn? Don't wish your deceased loved ones back to life!
Coventry6 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the 2019 "Creepshow" episodes, I was most skeptical about this one, although - admittedly - that is purely based on my own personal aversion of tales involving the mythical and wish-granting monkey paws. In all my years as a horror fanatic, I only saw one reasonably decent tale with a monkey paw, and that was in the legendary 70s Amicus anthology "Tales from the Crypt". Or maybe, just maybe, my aversion isn't linked to the paw itself, but to the fact that people in these stories always and practically without exception wish for a deceased loved one to be brought back to life. Haven't they learned anything from "Pet Sematary", "Burying the Ex" and three dozen other horror movies?!? Wishing back the dead is guaranteed trouble!

Anyway, to make a long story short, "Night of the Paw" is the same old derivative guff, twice even, and there's also a long and tedious build-up. However, I'll gladly admit that the final end-shot is terrific and petrifying, and it's quite funny that one of the protagonists wastes two wishes in a ramshackle hearse.

The second story, "Times is tough in Musky Holler", shows lots of potential at the beginning. It's set in a quiet little town, where some of the most eminent citizens (including the mayor and the sheriff), sit chained in a dungeon and seemingly await either a trial or an execution. The strangeness in Musky Holler involves the living dead, corruption, love for high-school football and bloody vengeance from the "regular" townspeople. All cool, but the narration is extremely incoherent, and the segment feels overall unfinished. Many questions remain unanswered in this story, which - I think - it's shorter than any other "Creepshow" segment. The zombie make-up effects are excellent, though.

One of the better episodes
lanceuppercut7823 October 2020
I don't get what people are complaining about. The first one was a great throwback horror tale. Simple and awesome just like the old Tales from Crypt comics. I love it. The second one was harder to understand if you aren't paying attention but it is actually a sequel to the Monkeys Paw. Clever job by the writers connecting these two. Highly recommended!

Crapshow

Warning: Spoilers
The first episode was "The Monkey's Paw" and it was so convoluted. Like Bruce Davison's (funeral director) wife holds the paw and wished out loud for money but then later she died accidentally and her life insurance policy gave him the money she wished for. Then he holds the paw and wished her back to life but she was in the coffin and he dug her up and she was a zombie and attacked him. He then wished she was dead again. Then he wished for a "killer" to come into his life to kill him because he wanted to die but didn't want to do suicide. So this woman Hannah Barefoot crashes her car nearby and he saves her and she's a killer. He tells her about the paw and his zombie wife. She ends up shooting and killing him because he catches on fire from the fireplace or something (really stupid) and then she takes the paw. She had previously killed her husband out of mercy since he was suffering in a hospital and she shot him in the head. Yeah, no one would suspect anything. But when she got the paw, apparently at this point in the show, she just had to think thoughts that the viewer is unaware of and then she'd get a wish. Huh? The monkey's paw was in the back seat and I guess she'd think of something unbeknownst to the viewer and then a finger would curl and stay down. So I guess one silent wish was getting the keys to his car. Then the other was getting the car to start since it was dead for no reason. I was like WTF is happening? Then at the end she gets to the morgue and finds her dead husband in a room with other dead bodies. She wishes something in her mind I guess and apparently but then all the dead in the morgue rose because she wanted her husband to be alive again. Did she not learn from the guy who told her about his zombie wife??? Then the next episode was about zombies and someone online said it was a continuation from the Monkey's Paw episode with the dead being risen. I had no idea there even was a connection at all. It was such a short episode with an undeveloped story line. Disappointing show.

Cursed hand seek revenge and death! And crooked folks in crooked town pay up!
blanbrn27 October 2019
This episode of "Creepshow" features two entertaining tales that hold interest and both twist with revenge as again bad people get what they deserve and both stories have a nice treat of blood and gore.

First tale called "Night of the Paw" involves a funeral director(Bruce Davidson) who's lonely and grief stricken over his dead wife and when a criminal and sexy hit woman(oh she was so sexy love her in that black bra!) makes her way into his home things start to spin and takes turns in this tale. However a mysterious hand comes into play and does it's work for justice!

The next tale is just a turn for fairness and justice as the corrupt finally get what's coming to them the story "Times is Tough in Musky Holler" involves a rural small country town, and how the dead and some honest people have taken matters of justice and punishment into their own hands against the crooked Mayor and bad cops and local gossip girls and shady preachers! So it's time for these bad folks to pay up with flesh!

Overall again well done and good episode of the "Shudder" series as it shows gore, blood and revenge as the bad people get what they deserved with justice being served!

Dumbshow.
Harfy19 May 2020
Well, the first part is just plain dumb. The old man told the "I'm-not-a-killer" woman what happened when he tried to resurrect his dead wife. So, this dumb girl just do the same. How stupid that was !

And we see that the paw users has to have the ape paw in hand while asking for a wish. But all of a sudden, the dumb girl has just to think about 2 wishes, without holding the paw in her hands...

For the 2nd part, even if it's a following to the "not-a-killer-dumb-girl" segment, it remains uninteresting, as no clues are given to us. Just a bunch of people shouting, and be killed by zombies.

Oh Shudder. Why do you do this to us?
execute_205023 April 2021
Stop doing banal money paw episodes. Dude says it was from India yet it has cuneiform writing on the box and the box looked new. Whattt? Plus 1 point for calling the white man Whitey. I also like it when the black guys in shows are called Blackman. Just funny to me.

In summary: Shudder... You tried so hard, you got so far, and in the end, (this episode) didn't even matter.
