what the...

Warning: Spoilers
As fans, we deserved better than this... The Void was coming to erase everything, but Lucifer was obsessed with S.Morningstar's body meanwhile the person who took her body was literally her... In the first scene, Roz answered her "SMART PHONE" Nick just went to space without protection spells or anything. Also, how come the trinket man had everything?? Even king of hell did not have those things he had. Sabrina was dying and they did not even try to transfer her soul to her old body. The afterlife scene was also terrible. The only good scene was Sabrina's goodbye.

Not Expected
egorman-002512 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the episode was pretty good up until they killed off Sabrina at the end. I couldn't help but yell at the tv about the dozen other ways they could have saved her. For instance, I think robin goodfellow could have used his speed to get in and out of the void in 5 seconds. Overall I wasn't very happy about the way the series ended.

Great series crappy ending
jreneehughes2 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So, it seems like with many great shows that the show itself is amazing but how they choose to end it is awful. While I agree with Sabrina's willingness to sacrifice herself to save everyone, in a realm of magic and the ability to do unimaginable things ending it on a note where she actually dies is really a cop out by the writers. And I whole heartedly agree with another reviewer that this was not a justifiable ending to her amazing power. Even more so the show just allowed suicide to be an OK thing by Nick to be with her because with teenage suicide says how bad that suicide is but it is ok because they are witches???? Come on, no show with a teenage audience should ever be promoting anything like this!!! And just because someone you love dies does it ever justify suicide? No, in fact in reality there is no afterlife where they would be together she was in heaven and nearly every religion would have sent him straight to hell not to be in heaven with her. Was it romantic, sure, but was it a good message to send a younger audience, hell no. Had they gone about things differently, and not made it about suicide I might have gone along with it like he got stuck in the void or something but this, was unthinkable. Not to mention, I had hopes of seeing more adventures later. Even if they were just little movies etc. This ending however closed the chapter on it forever. I am very disappointed with their decision to do this.

Awful ending to a potentially great story
heathersloan-405962 January 2021
I was highly disappointed in the writer's choice for the ending. I will not go into detail as to not spoil anything, but I feel the story was cheapened by the ending and that it left much to be desired. I know they ran out if time due to the impending cancellation of the show but I feel the fans deserved much better.

Terrible Ending
bangel33224 January 2021
The last series of this show was actually brilliant. The Eldritch Terrors was a fantastic storyline. However....this last episode was complete garbage. Not only did it feel rushed with them trying to fit everything in the last episode, it was poorly written. There were a million and one ways this ending could have gone, and they've just gone with the easy option, which doesn't match the tone of the rest of the show. So I am bitterly disappointed with this ending. The fans deserved so much better.

How Far Is Too Far?
lukesc-888057 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have continuously loved this series for a number of reasons. However, I nearly always conclude that my passion for it is due to its constant originality, and how it shatters the viewer's initial perception of teen drama's within every episode. I have always admired the shows disregard for the typical and clichéd tropes of this genre, and how things were often resolved or concluded in a more morbid and cynical way, and never necessarily had overly happy endings. At the end of the day, the show was dark. Very dark. But was also very lighthearted and always made sure that every character was to leave whatever peril they were in eventually, and continue to live happily. However, in regards to the show's ambition to be different in making things in a teen drama a little darker, how far is too far? Well, the season five finale...(scratch that).......the SERIES finale answered that perfectly.

I won't give too many spoilers, or go in depth to the show's intricate way of carrying the finale out, but to be concise, the show ends with Sabrina dying, and Nick taking his own life to be with her. I will admit, from the beginning of the season, I felt like they were building Sabrina's character up for her doom. The overarching theme to me this season was loneliness, and how little Sabrina felt she mattered to her friends and family. This message, I found to be very important to get out to teenagers. Especially considering the year in it, I feel like most teenagers needed to hear what the show had to say this year, and I personally found it very comforting to hear it from such a popular show. However, this side plot of Sabrina overcoming her poor mentality becomes shallow and wasted once they decide to kill her off in the final episode. Did the writers forget she was seventeen? A seventeen year old, who never deserved to die, and who up until this point did everything for the greater good of her loved ones, and in general, humanity.

While Nick's suicide wasn't shown on screen, it was a poor choice by the writers, who up until this point had used the show to advocate for self-love and perseverance. They try to sugarcoat his actions by giving both he and Sabrina a "happy" ending of them being together forever in death. I personally didn't find any satisfaction in the shows decision to kill both characters off, as the show may end on a high note for Nick and Sabrina, but it ends on the lowest note of devastation and horror for everyone left in the mortal realm.

I understand that they wanted to do something different, and considering the show's notorious legacy of not always being a pleasant fairytale, wanted to give a more cynical end to the series, but the positivity and joy that I myself as a massive fan of the show had felt from the beginning was taken away by a conclusion that left me unsatisfied, heartbroken, sympathetic, and plainly disappointed.

What was that!
sailor_julia5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously what happened??!! In this season Lucifer is weak as a baby! Defeated by Lilith? The spell normally doesn't affect him. The death oh Sabrina Morningstar?! Both Sabrina leave near each other before, but now she and Salem the endless by the way, just died by getting through a mirror. Make no sense. The death of Sabrina spellman??!! What about the pit of Cain? What about the fact they still have her body who was in the void. They could have put her soul in her body back, like they did with soul in Sabrina Morningstar. The suicide of Nick??!! That the message at the end?? Die to be happy?? That end fell like cheap writing. The writer doesn't care of the fans. Wee deserves better, the Sabrinas deserve better!

Horribly Disappointing
amandamprussell10 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I can't get over how let down I feel by the writers/showrunner for this series ending. And by other reviews it looks like I'm not alone. To see such a good show tainted by a not so great final season and then an awfully thought out ending is very disappointing. I won't rant about all the things, but I feel it's important to mention that it's unacceptable to romanticize suicide - especially in a teen show at that.

Pleasant but big plot holes.
gsi962 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this season and everyone in the cast was amazing but I couldn't avoid noticing some big plot holes. First of all, in the first two seasons Lucifer was so powerful and they didn't even dare defy him and face his anger. In this season they made him seem like a powerless warlock totally unable to do a simple thing (that was a big let down). The ending also could have been avoided. There were so many ways (always according to the other seasons) that Sabrina could be saved. What about being buried in the pit in Spellman's mortuary that Hilda and Agatha were buried and brought back. Robin could just go running in the void and save everyone much more quickly. Lilith once she took Lucifer's place in the second season, brought back Mrs Wardwell, now why there was no such power? There are many more ways I could think so this ending didn't make any sense. Besides that, it was a pleasant season.

Sabrina Spellman deserved better!
tinabdjordjevic2 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Absolutely devastated by the ending and in the worst way possible too! Sabrina Spellman was a 17 year old girl and a powerful one at that, a role model, and a hero of her own story. To see her get this absolute bizarro ending, with poor Nick following suit in some lame attempt of Romeo and Juliet no less. Why? Seriously Netflix...why? Can't we have some damn magic and a happy ending from time to time?! Was it not possible for her to survive (a cut to the chest at that) and live out her days with her family and friends? A shame.

Good show
jmsf-072614 January 2021
This show was very good! This ultimate season was better than the last! Although this show is not suitable for all, for those who loves supernatural series it was a feist. Such Great Cast and the plot improved a lot during last season! The 10 stars is for the show! A 11 for Miranda Otto, such a great actress! We want an 5th season! Go HBO, GO!

Mixed feelings..
lamiyaahmed1 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I feel like there could have been other ways to save Sabrina... they didn't even try... Then losing Nick too was just unnecessary and painful... That being said, I would have felt empty too if the show had done a basic happily ever after ending...

MUST BE ADDRESSED: Final Scene Justifies Teen Suicide.
tjstarr-991993 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Depicting suicide as the solution to eternal happiness for teenagers, should NEVER be the message delivered, especially in a show centered around teenagers. Suicide is not the answer when dealing with internal emotional pain. I enjoyed CAOS as a whole, but this scene was a massive red flag. The teen character commits suicide due to missing a loved one. As a result the character is happily reunited in the afterlife with their loved one for eternal happiness.... THIS IS WRONG. Suicide is not the solution, and if your struggling with thoughts of suicide please talk to someone about this ASAP.

Meh.
stella_813 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Could have done without the last 3 minutes. Do I honestly need know that Sabrina and Nick are snogging for all eternity in the afterlife after Nick pulled a very cheap Romeo & Juliet? Ew, no. I'd be curious to know how this episode originally was since the series' fate was still in the balance up until not so long ago. Now it's ill paced, with a lot of exposition, not much set up and not very conclusive in terms of characters' arcs. Could have been a better goodbye to the series.

Ended up in tears
viivischroderus7 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what happened to this serie. It started on being so promising, a perfect supernatural serie of a teenage girl between the mortal and supernatural world. The first couple of seasons were good and the serie is worth more than just a one star but this final ep doesn't deserve any more.

The show just got weirder and weirder while the time passed. That's so sad 'cause there were so much wasted potential on there. I'm the kind of person who begs on happy endings so this left me dissappoitment and sad. The main character should never die in the finale. I just hope now that Roberto AS doesn't ruin Riverdale like he ruined Sabrina...

Semi bad finale
filostrano4 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I liked quite a bit sabrina's sacrifice, even though there were some dumb decisions made to achieve the impactful result. What I hated most of all about this episode was Nick and his suicide. It isn't at all in character, even though he would do ANYTHING to stay with Brina, causing the coven even more pain is not something he'd do. His suicide is the act of a craven, of someone scared to face the loss of someone they loved, and Nick just isn't that. Overall, the episode is bad only because of the final scene, and the season is very good, with just a couple of things that are hard to swallow. And this episode is the bad, but perfect finale for the show. Sabrina always had to sacrifice herself, it was clear, and her arc was concluded in a very smart and satisfying, even though sad, way. The other characters' arcs, except Nick's, were concluded decently too. Semi bad final episode for a pretty great show.

How to destroy a series...
matiasnav9 January 2021
This is how writers and producers can destroy a great story and amazing characters. They tried to round up all the narrative archs and the result was abysmal. The ending is absolutely disappointing, Sabrina deserved much much better.

Only rating it 9 to balance the undeserving rating by the unforgivables
glaneljhonathan5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You know, it's not as bad as they say. The starting was kinda off putting & characters were behaving weirdly sometimes, but I can live with that ending & in-betweens. A little rushed, yes, but ultimately satisfactory. In this case, at least, it was Netflix's fault (for premature culling, just when it was getting better) more than shownakers's, unlike Game of Thrones.

So whatever it is, I forgive you CAOS, because you really entertained me for the past three years with something so innovative, dark, & gutsy. I remember watching the first few episodes & the dialogues absolutely shocking me for being so bold & outright. Now I see it as normal & enjoy more openly. I also found this season overall more matured, more confident & less teen dramaesque compared to the previous. So there's that. Goodbye, Brina...

Lets talk..
Reenoeh5 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They made Nick kill himself, romanticized suicide just to be together with sabrina which died but also didn't. She ended up in a different white room than the void with pictures of heaven, hell and garden eden on the wall and I guess that is where she is waiting for the HBO train to pick her up. Zelda could've shaken the box and asked the favor from her lover which controls live and death to bring Sabrina back but well, guess that is for season 5 too.. This was bad and I think- intentionally so fans will roar for justice.

Originally was 8/10 but...
AleksandrBelenko15 January 2021
Here is the thing. I think seasons 3 and 4 are weaker than 1 and 2. And even though season 4 was meh to me the finale (both episode 7 and 8) are great. What annoyed me in season 3 was too optimistic, too bright and shiny, almost Dusneyesque show. And well, just compare Lucifer before season 3 and after. That applies to everything else. Season 4 gave promise. The Eldridge Terrors are magnificent, yet the execution wasn't as good as it was years ago. And here is a two-part finale that elevates all the season 4 in my eyes. And I can talk about episode 7 and how great the comedy and terror were there. But people do like that episode. And why not episode 8? But really, why? You can feel the drama through all the episode until the end. People do not like that a main character is... (well, no spoilers) but you know... On that I say, finally it is not a fairytale, but a nice gothic story. It was a great gothic story in S1 and S2 and the episode 8 is what a true ending of gothic stories should be like. People do can disagree, if they want. But would it be that good of a story, would Sabrina be that heroic, would it be true to itself, if it would end otherwise? No. And that's why this episode does not deserve the hate it has. And I advise people to read classic gothic/horror/dark fantasy literature, and then they might see that they were wrong.

This was... mature...?
isabellacheng13 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even before the end, the story felt mature. At first, I couldn't understand the low rating. From a storytelling perspective, the finale felt different, and serious, but nothing too bad... UNTIL I saw the ending. If I could ignore the ending, I would give it 8/10. But I can't. I just can't. It was godless awful!

A lot of things didn't make sense in the finale. The Void doesn't kill, she only absorbs people. So how did Sabrina Morningstar die by jumping through a mirror / portal? Where did Endless go? Where was Sabrina Morningstar's soul? Was she back ruling over Hell? (clearly not) Why were the Terrors completely irrelevant to the final showdown? How did Blackwood foretold everything in his "gospel" but couldn't anticipate the bomb? Why wasn't Robin sent into the Void to retrieve everyone? He's literally the Flash. Why wasn't Sabrina Spellman's transferred back to her own body? Why weren't the Sabrinas revived in the Cain pit? And WTF's with Nick in the end!?

Many user reviews here expect the show to be picked up by HBO. Now, with this ending, they need to retcon a lot of stuff before that can happen. I would very much rather the show to end at the previous episode with a cliffhanger.

PS Let's count the terrors when they entered the cave and hope I wasn't mistaken: The Darkness --- Held by Harvey The Uninvited --- Held by Robin The Weird --- Held by Agatha The Perverse --- Taken away by the Trinket man The Cosmic --- Consumed by the Void The Returned --- Held by Theo The Endless --- ? The Void --- Held by Aunt Hilda So much for trapping all terrors in the Void.
