It features a “World’s weakest to World’s Strongest” subgenre of manhwa and webtoons, with elements derived from RPGs and video game interfaces.

To say that Suzume is one of the best anime movies to have ever been created wouldn’t be a lie considering the tremendous ratings the film has earned from almost all platforms. Encircling the life of a young teenager of the same name who sets out to save Japan through her ability to see supernatural forces, the 2022 masterpiece was a critically commended blockbuster.
Suzume (2022)
Yet, despite being such a beloved option for most fans, the adventure-drama movie was still turned down when it sought acknowledgment from the Academy, wounding up with nothing more than zero nominations. And to rub salt in the wound, Suzume‘s recently winning the award for Best Anime Film has further proved to fans that Margot Robbie wasn’t the only one snubbed at the Oscars 2024.

Related: Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024: Your Ultimate Guide Aka Akasaka is widely known in the anime and manga world thanks to the popularity of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War . The series adaptation did justice to the author’s initial romantic comedy tone and gave us a wholesome sitcom where it’s impossible not to laugh at the awkwardness and seriousness of the main characters. Oshi no Ko is a completely different project. Written by Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, the story is so different that it took a lot of us off guard. Let’s take a look at why the series makes a strong contender for Anime of the Year . An Unexpected...

“Kaguya-sama: Love Is War” — both Aka Akasaka’s manga series and its animated series adaptation — is one of the greatest romantic comedies of the 21st century. Which is why a special Valentine’s Day theatrical platform for its first feature film, “The First Kiss That Never Ends” (a continuation of the storyline from the first three seasons of the series), makes so much sense.
Within the walls of the student council office, president Miyuki Shirogane and vice president Kaguya Shinomiya butt heads constantly, with each chapter serving as a bite-sized attack on one or the other’s emotional state. The whole goal for these kids is to trick the other into sacrificing their pride and confessing their love first, with a mountain of friends dragged in as tools and victims to (and sometimes even outright foiling) their extensively drawn out plans.

The spring anime season has arrived, bringing with it a new crop of series. Good thing too, because we have two major voids to fill with no new episodes of Demon Slayer or Attack on Titan for at least another year. The current slate of shows features some returning series like the popular rom-com Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, but the biggest show of the season is a newcomer: Spy x Family.
The hype for Spy x Family might catch people by surprise. How can there already be so much excitement for a brand new series? It can’t all be chalked up to the fact that the anime is a collaboration between Studio Wit and CloverWorks, although their involvement certainly doesn’t hurt.
The answer, it turns out, lies with the source material.

‘Kaguya-sama: Love Is War’ is a Hilarious Rom-com That’s Also a Brilliant Psychological Action Anime
(Welcome to Ani-time Ani-where, a regular column dedicated to helping the uninitiated understand and appreciate the world of anime.) But where there are plenty of romantic anime shows, few end […]
