late 50s; a widowed, lonely mother with an unfortunate backstory: when her husband died, she read his will and discovered that he had another wife and family she didn't know about; he basically gave everything he owned, including the apartment Salwa and Nada lived in, to his other secret family; miserable and bored; her only solace is the idea of Nada getting married and having kids, which is like an obsession; maybe deep down she's afraid her daughter will end up as lonely as she is right now; spends her days thinking and scheming, setting up dates for Nada with men from "good families."
