Quite an Unsettling Episode
Hitchcoc5 June 2019
This was an interesting episode. It focuses primarily on the events at the wedding. The dominoes are stacking up. Bonnie gets information that makes Nate's situation difficult. Once again the group hides things from one another and, of course, Laurel is going nuts again. She actually thinks that her little boy will be traumatized because he was in the vicinity of Nate's actions.

Finally an interesting plot
nicofreezer15 May 2021
Its been since mid Season 2 without a great plot like that, so thats around 50 not so good episodes ( with of course some great into them but too few ) I Hope the show keep that momentum at least until the end of Season 5, this way Season 5 could became the second best Season, of SOOO far away from the Amazing quality of Season 1 This episode 8.75/10.

There's big talent, and there's not (explanation below)

Warning: Spoilers
Let me set this straight: A lot of talent is undeniably involved in this show, hence my rating, and IMO it will always be excellent as long as they are involved. That said, I have some very bad writing to point out, which I'm here really hoping will change for the better:

  • The Michaela the writers have come up with is disgusting. Cheats because crossover episode, trashes her completely innocent boyfriend for no reason, manipulates him all around only to leave him after sex to hookup with his neighbour while he still sleeps next door, even though after everything and her reputation for being "smart" she should be smart enough to figure out there's something shady about her hookup, and of course she then manipulates her way back to her boy again after learning that there was, while she is getting involved in an obsessive LGBTQ+ relationship with her old boss because anything LGBTQ+ gets applause no matter what it brings to a story, it's 2019 and that's it.
It's all irrelevant drama annoying to behold as it (except perhaps a more natural approach to the LGBTQ+ relationship) doesn't make sense with the development we saw during Michaela's long-taking relationship with Asher. It's so painfully obvious that it's just the writers making easy bad soap opera without any knowledge about where they were, where they are and where they're going; just following what trends the most or creates the most drama, no matter the cost of the show's overall quality.

  • Asher getting trashed by every single character nonstop has been his storyline for a while now, no redemption or apology to him or him standing up for himself, of course only to culminate in that he actually does something bad, and ridiculous as it's his only real plotline (of course referencing to him stupidly going down on Connor's mom), again proving a character who most people at least used to love and for good reasons, is officially fully irrelevant. Covering for Nate and Bonnie while he didn't even see Nate fight? Let's just say he could be cut out of the show and it wouldn't have an impact at all, which honestly breaks my heart for this dude who used to bring so much more to the table.

  • Then the entire Gabriel thing. Worst thing they could do. Actually thought there might be more than the eye candy to his character that they obviously hired him for, but as most of his secrets (confirmed by Pete himself) are out now, he's basically just an opposed non-threatening character randomly son to the dead Sam Keating whose case is perfectly closed and he doesn't seem interested in doing anything about it. He's forcing himself in as a character newer than Laurel's baby, to become a new Wes with often more screentime than most our 5 season long protagonists, trying to obtain something like the infamous special bond with Annalise that Wes had, and it doesn't do anything but cause cringe and forced drama/tension. Who is this dude? That is not me asking about a mystery, that is me asking why I am supposed to care about any of this.

  • And oh Eve. Let me get this straight: After a college fling she obsessed about Annalise, stalked and hacked her husband after learning about their dead baby, randomly found a new all-revealing mail from Sam about his secret son and old girlfriend/wife, which she gives to Frank whom she apparently knows or have come to know, gets him for some reason to go to Sam with the dirty email to tell him to man up and be with Annalise, because she, Eve, cares about Annalise ... ??? Despite her now rather disturbing obession and own desperate want to be with her? Despite knowing - and *randomly* showing up 20 years later just to tell - that Sam is a real d- and one shouldn't, y'know, be with him? It doesn't make sense at all, character wise and timewise. Why show up like this now? No new information at all? She's got no reason to warn Annalise about Gabriel more than the moment where she learned he became a student of hers which is pretty long ago, and as a viewer we were told he was harmless just before she arrived, so her coming and being there was pointless. The timing doesn't make any sense for the story or anything.
Eve is by many a beloved character, I too happen to love her, and to see her mistreated as, I don't even know, filler? Pure backfiring fan service? That's horrible. The show can do way better than that, which has been proven so many times.

So please,

UPGRADE THESE STORYLINES! Do what you've done soo many times before and make good ones. To mention on-going good ones: the governor plotline, Laurel's mom plotline/maybe the dad one as it doesn't feel over, Bonnie's past and her story getting darker. Give us something better than those not-even-half-baked character plotlines up there, and maybe that will also get the ratings up. We do need that, please.

NOTE: Of course, and hopefully, more can be revealed about the different stories, to change the scenarios completely, even though a lot of redeeming would have to be done. This is just how the show is currently looking, and again, IMO, some of it is sadly truly bad.

As always, thanks for the many other talents working, doing amazing jobs with everything given, and thanks a lot for the part of the writing that is properly orchestrated.
