Good episode, but seemed forced.
raturn5 October 2018
The first 5 minuets or so felt like an hour because all of the jokes seemed way to forced and over the top, but once they got to the redneck USA restaurant it started to pick up in pace and storytelling. Love this show, but this episode was almost on the verge of being dissapointing.

Trevor on Earth!

Warning: Spoilers
I'll admit that I wasn't the biggest Trevor fan. However, I found him pretty delightful here. He's a real evil genius.

Very funny episode. Great to see Janet rendered human for the first time and complaining about it. I'm interested in seeing how they'll handle hiding on Earth.

Also, I like the upbeat nature of this show and how the doorman repays Michael's gift.

Adam Scott's time to shine - not disappointed!

Warning: Spoilers
S03, E02 of The Good Place is charming and whimsical as always. This episode serves mostly as returning guest star Adam Scott to show of his demonic cheeriness. I know that may seem confusing, but it will make complete sense when viewing this.

The narrative explores how interference could have consequences, morally. Shown through both storylines (the brainy bunch, Janet & Michael), we also see interesting sides to some characters; a drunk Tahani, a powerless Janet, and an gentlemanly and honorable Jason (Yay!).

I only had one problem with this episode which is Chidi's character. Yes, he is being manipulated by Trevor, but that shouldn't contradict what he said in his 3 hour long lecture about how people choose to be good because of their relationships with others. He goes back on it in the end but I couldn't help but see that decision as out of character.

Adam Scott shines in a good episode of the Good Place. (8/10)

Weakest episode of the show so far... this one just isn't good.

Warning: Spoilers
All the things that annoyed me or rubbed me the wrong way about the first episode are at full swing here, and this episode ultimately covered 0 ground and went absolutely nowhere for 22 minutes.

As I stated in my review of that aforementioned episode, for a show that for 2 seasons, built itself upon an otherworldly concept, absurd wild-card humour and elements of philosophical fantasy, a show that had so much meaning, humour and heart, a show that was so much more than a typical comedy.... the start of this season being 90% set on earth feels so wrong.

Now my favourite elements of the show, the humour where ridiculous objects being summoned and otherworldly beings makes complete sense and has had me laughing for days afterward.... feel completely out of place and almost seem as if they're getting in the way. Except, they're getting in the way of a really uninteresting and failing A-plot.

How has the show ditched most of what made it work so well? The characters' interaction holds essentially nothing to compared to what it did a season ago. The humour in this episode was either extremely slight, or incredibly cringy and at times... just too much.

22 minutes isn't enough to explore both the earth plot and the "Michael and Janet" plot fully, leading to a lot of whiplash inducing imbalance with the tone and where the season is even going.

Trevor (Adam Scott) joining the group to try and sabotage the experiment sounds decent enough on paper, but the way Scott acts in this episode, while I admit did make me laugh a couple times... was easily the worst part of the episode. So many painful references and jokes, that due to Jason finding them hilarious... I feel this show really stooped to a low form of comedy, whereas this show has proven itself to be very intelligent.

This was even messier than the season's opening. I remember now why this show lost me. It's going in a direction I can't get on board with. It doesn't help that one of the primary writers that made S2 so fantastic (Kate Gersten) is not present for this season (except for Ep.10).

I can't say this is the worst episode of the season since I have to revisit them all. But so far, this is the lowest point of the series, and I am genuinely let down by this.

Dank memes and LOGANG for lyfe

This episode fun and charming. Adam Scott returns and delivers his usual humorous charm with an add-on of some mixed Internet culture humour. Most of it didn't quite land with references to Damn Daniel and the Ice bucket challenge which both happened years ago, but I couldn't help but crack up at the Logan Paul reference. It's one of the better times TV shows have tackled internet culture.

Warning: Spoilers
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the third season of The Good Place has a rating of 98%, based on 47 reviews. I was quite excited about the third season, but somehow this episode did seem a bit forced at times that went on and on in a meandering way really. Sadly not up to The Good Place standards set in seasons 1 and 2.

Really trying to like this season...
doe-807085 October 2018
First off, I'm a fan of the show, and enjoy it's unique concept but... I'm writing this, while watching the episode...sigh..I find the fake Aussie accents so cringy. To be fair, there's less in this episode, compared to the 1st one...but, two episodes in & I hope they leave 'Australia' soon, really soon...their accents are not as bad as Fat Amy's Father (Pitch Perfect 3) but close.

Sincerely, The Australian writing this review.

This has to be close to the worst episode of the entire show. The accents, the boring storyline, and poor cohesive theme just makes for tortuous viewing.

Maybe the writers have stopped trying to torture the characters, and have turned their attention to the viewers.

Skip this one.
