The Group B final took place on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday, May 1 on “The Soundtrack of My Life Night.” After singing their hearts out for panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora, Beets advanced to a Battle Royale against Gumball, but fell short and got eliminated from the competition. The root veggies with golden pipes were revealed to be award-winning “American Idol” alum Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Watch their unmasking above.
“It’s been amazing. We had a good time,” Ruben told host Nick Cannon during their unmasked interview. “It was a lot of fun. The audience was amazing.” The panelists could barely pick their jaws up off the ground after they all failed to guess this dynamic duo. “We loved being compared to some of the people you guessed,” Clay said. “They guessed Boyz II Men! On Tuesday, March 5, Foo Fighters will take a rare detour from stadium, arena and amphitheater stages to perform at a private, one-night-only concert in Washington, D.C. hosted by Power to the Patients, a non-profit fighting for a more affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare system through true price transparency.
Find out more about the concert here.
Hip hop legends Fat Joe and Chuck D will also be in attendance.
“When we were asked by Power to the Patients to help raise awareness of the need for transparency in healthcare pricing, we immediately said yes. People suffering from illness and injury shouldn’t have to worry about being bankrupted by surprise charges for their treatment.” — Foo Fighters
With lawmakers, government officials, and their dedicated staff in attendance, Foo Fighters will join the drive to raise awareness about the inequality and uncertainty created for millions of patients when hospitals and insurers hide actual upfront prices.

For 20 students at Pittsburgh Faison and Pittsburgh Westinghouse in Pennsylvania, a school field trip didn’t mean an excursion to the zoo or a museum. Instead, the crew of elementary and high school students took a trip to Ppg Paints Arena on Saturday evening to sing with Lil Durk in a performance of “All My Life” during his opening slot on Drake and J. Cole’s It’s All a Blur tour.

Billy Joel has shared the video for his comeback single, “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first music video in 17 years.
The video arrives after Joel debuted “Turn the Lights Back On” at the 2024 Grammys. Directed by Warren Fu and the song’s co-writer and producer, Freddy Wexler, the video uses deepfake technology from Deep Voodoo to show Joel singing the song in three different eras: His early career in the 1970s, his mid-career, and now. At the end, a brief montage of Joel’s career, life, and family plays as he sings to a fully empty-but-fully-lit theater. Watch the video below.
In celebration of “Turn the Lights Back On,” Joel’s first solo single since 2007’s “All My Life,” he also stopped by The Late Show with Steven Colbert on Thursday to discuss how the song came together, the Grammys performance, and why his seminal track “Piano Man” is actually a limerick.

CBS is embracing the Piano Man.
Ahead the Super Bowl, the network announced it would stream Billy Joel’s 100th concert at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, April 14 at 9 pm Et/Pt. It will be filmed at his March 28 show, and will also be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
The news comes as Joel is set to end his Msg residency this July with his 150th career performance at the New York arena. When Freddy Wexler was a kid growing up in New York City in the Nineties, there was no artist he loved more than Billy Joel. The 37-year-old singer-producer — who has has written songs for everyone from Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande to Kanye West and Celine Dion — used to sit in his bedroom, put on The Stranger, Turnstiles, or River of Dreams, and dream. “I would imagine it was me performing,” Wexler tells Rolling Stone via Zoom from his house in L.A. “I wanted to be Billy Joel.”

Billy Joel performed at the Grammy Awards for the first time in 22 years, closing Sunday night’s (February 4th) ceremony by playing “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new music in nearly two decades. He also performed one of his classic hits, “You May Be Right.”
Joel premiered “Turn the Lights Back On” in the days ahead of the Grammys. Co-written by Freddy Wexler, Arthur Bacon, and Wayne Hector, the song is a piano ballad that conveys Joel’s signature style, with a few modern touches. For his Grammys performance, the Piano Man took center stage with a full backing band, complete with Icelandic jazz-pop revivalist Laufey on cello.
Prior to “Turn the Lights Back On,” Joel’s most-recent release was 2007’s “All My Life.” In 2001, he shared his latest studio album, the classical collection Fantasies & Delusions, with his most-recent pop album being 1993’s River of Dreams.

At 48, Killer Mike won three rap Grammys on Sunday and told the audience: “You cannot tell me you get too old. You cannot tell me it’s too late.”
Mike won best rap album for Michael, while his song “Scientists and Engineers” won best rap performance and best rap song. On Twitter, the Recording Academy accidentally announced that Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” won best rap song, though it went to Michael‘s track, which features Andre 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane.
“For all the people out there that think you get too old to rap, bullshit. I don’t give a damn if you’re 78 rapping about how many gals you got in the nursing home, make sure we keep hip-hop alive,” he said during the Grammys pre-show held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The official ceremony will air later from the Crypto.

One of the most exciting categories this year at the Grammys is Best Melodic Rap Performance, where there’s one glaring omission: Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World.” The big hit from “Barbie” was relegated to Best Rap Song, showing a lack of enthusiasm from voters (who likely voted for it in the songwriting category due to its high alphabetical placement on the ballot). But the song’s miss ended up making the category way more interesting with a couple of hits now duking it out for the win. With big names in the category such as Drake and Sza, let’s consider who will ultimately be crowned the winner come February 4.
Let’s start with the song that has the least chance of a win: Burna Boy and 21 Savage’s “Sittin’ on Top of the World.” While the track was a big hit for Burna, it...

Taylor Swift is the odds-on favorite to make history with an Album of the Year victory for “Midnights.” It would be her fourth win in the category following victories for “Fearless,” “1989” and “Folklore.” That would set a new record for the most Album of the Year wins for any recording artist ever, breaking Swift’s tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon. Billy Joel released his first single in 17 years today, “Turn the Lights Back On,” a spare, piano-based ballad that harkens back to some of his best-loved work.
The single is being released by Columbia Records, and marks Joel’s first new material since 2007, when the Piano Man released “All My Life” and “Christmas in Fallujah.” The song was written by Freddy Wexler, Arthur Bacon, Wayne Hector and Joel. Listen below.
While Joel hasn’t released much new music since his most recent rock album, 1993’s River of Dreams, he has continued to perform live. He has played New York’s Madison Square Garden once a month since January 2014 and will end the 10-year residency with the 150th performance set for July. He continues to tour in the U.S. and abroad. He will perform at Sunday’s Grammys, though it’s not clear whether he’ll debut “Turn the Lights Back On” or not.

21 Savage’s third solo album, American Dream, begins with his mother, Heather Joseph, describing her family’s emigration from Britain to America during his childhood. “Every path that I walked was for my son,” she tells us. (Big Rube of Dungeon Family fame penned her introduction.) It’s a concept many others have used before, most famously by Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter on “December 4th” from 2003’s The Black Album.

You can’t win ’em all. With so many candidates to choose from every Grammy season, there are inevitably major contenders left out of the running in favor of artists, songs and albums we didn’t see coming. With that in mind, scroll down to see some of the major contenders who didn’t make the cut in the big four general field categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
Foo Fighters are missing entirely from the general field, though they were recognized in the rock field. Their album “But Here We Are” was snubbed for Album of the Year, and their single “Rescued” missed the cut for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Also absent from the general field is Doja Cat‘s “Paint the Town Red.” She missed out on Record of the Year and Song of the Year,...

Prestige carries weight in the Best Rap Song category. In the 20 times this particular Grammy’s been given out since 2004, 16 of those wins have gone to just three big-name artists: Kanye West (7 wins), Jay-Z (5), and Kendrick Lamar (4), with Drake winning two times. This year, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, and J. Cole have big reputations on their side.

The silver ball wizards at Stern Pinball are teasing something spectacular for the game company’s next pinball machine with an interactive experience based on Marvel‘s Venom! Stern Pinball posted a new video (below) teasing its upcoming table, which we’ve heard is appearing at San Diego Comic-Con next week. Stern’s Venom pinball machine has been rumored as the next table from Brian Eddy, with the production of the table getting bumped by James Bond in the line of anticipated products.
Details about Stern Pinball’s Venom pinball machine remain a mystery, though we know it’s a Brian Eddy design with artwork by Zombie Yeti. It’s a slow year for hip-hop so far, especially on the charts. Big names like J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, and Jay-Z haven’t released new music in 2023, other icons like Nicki Minaj seem to be prepping for Q4 releases, and so far there’s just not been a lot of hip-hop topping the charts. In fact, no number-one song this year has been by a hip-hop artist. Even worse, there has not even been a number-one album by a rapper this year either, with releases from high-profile names like Gunna and Lil Durk failing to reach the top spot. The silver lining is that a weak year for rap overall means that the Grammys’ rap categories might be more fun than ever, with no boring sweeps or predictably locked categories in sight.

The rumors were true, after all: Foo Fighters performed a surprise set at Glastonbury Friday evening.
Dave Grohl and company took the Pyramid stage at 6:10 p.m. UK time, a block previously occupied on the schedule by placeholder alias The Churnups; real Foos heads might recall that the band’s first-ever Glastonbury performance in 1998 took place on the very same stage around the same time slot. Nowadays, it’s hard to imagine them not headlining, but Primal Scream was the main event on that very muddy evening. Foo Fighters did end up headlining the fest in 2017, after dropping out in 2015 due to Grohl’s infamous broken leg.
Foo Fighters’ nine-song setlist was mostly packed with greatest hits, including “All My Life,” “The Pretender,” “Best of You,” and “Everlong.” The band also played a pair of songs from their new album, But Here We Are, including “Rescued” and “Show Me How” with Violet Grohl.
North Carolina natives and diehard basketball fans J. Cole and Eric Church are part of the ownership group buying Michael Jordan’s majority stake in the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, the team announced today.
The group is led by Gabe Plotkin (who acquired a minority stake in the Hornets in 2019) and Rick Schnall, the latter of whom is a minority owner of the Atlanta Hawks. Others involved with the sale besides Cole and Church include local Charlotte investors Amy Levine Dawson and Damian Mills, as well as Chris Shumway, Dan Sundheim, Ian Loring, and Dyal HomeCourt Partners.
Cole’s love for basketball is well known. After playing high school basketball in North Carolina, he was a walk-on for the St. John’s men’s basketball team. Though Cole’s rap dreams came to fruition before he ever stepped on the court, the Dreamville Records founder has never given up on his hoop dreams,...

On Tuesday, Billboard published a piece speculating on why hip-hop hasn’t had a Number One album or single within the first half of 2023. The report set off a flurry of chatter from industry observers and rap fans drawing their own conclusions as to what the answer might be. Is the dearth of rap hits this year a matter of market share, artist deaths, incarceration, or stagnant charts?
Most people who think the occurrence is no big deal are chalking it up to a lack of releases by major rap stars.

Dave Grohl returned to his old stomping grounds in Washington, DC on Tuesday to help christen The Atlantis, a new 450-person capacity replica venue of the original 9:30 Club. Grohl’s Foo Fighters had the honors of becoming the first band to take the stage at The Atlantis, and they turned in a thrilling 22-song, two-hour performance.
Appropriately, the concert kicked off with Grohl reuniting with Pete Stahl, his old bandmate in the DC hardcore band Scream. Together, they covered the Bad Brains song “At The Atlantis.” From there, Foo Fighters launched into a set primarily consisting of greatest hits — plus a few more surprises.
After dedicating Foo Fighters’ performance of “Break Me” to Foghat, Grohl managed to work in a few lines from “Slow Ride.” He welcomed his daughter, Violet Grohl, to sing on “Shame Shame” and “Rope,” and invited friend and 9:30 Club owner Seth Hurwitz to drum on “Big Me.

For Lil Durk, Almost Healed is yet another slick collection of sticky trap melodies set to piano-and-808 beats, but, perhaps more importantly, it also aims to showcase a more meditative side to the customarily libertine Chicago rapper. The album’s first track, a spoken-word interlude titled “Therapy Session,” features Alicia Keys playing Durk’s therapist as she goes through a laundry list of recent tragedies that have befallen the rapper. “Wow…that must have been incredibly devastating,” she muses at one point after evoking the murder of his friend King Von, followed by the loss of his brother a mere half a year later. From the jump, the album effectively cultivates a weighty atmosphere.
It’s admirable that an artist of Durk’s popularity is willing to rap about topics such as generational trauma and structural violence on tracks like the well-meaning, if suffocatingly sappy, “All My Life.” And while...
