“Expats” star Sarayu Blue remembers the first time imposter syndrome bowled her over.
She was on set for David E. Kelley’s “Monday Mornings” with the “inimitable” Alfred Molina, who just performed a big speech in a key scene.
“We got done, and we were walking to our rooms and he turned back and he said, ‘Was that all right?'” Blue recalled in a conversation with IndieWire. “And I looked behind me cause I thought, ‘Well, he can’t be asking me, who the hell am I?'”
After assuring Molina that he was “brilliant,” Blue remembered realizing: “In that moment, I thought ‘Oh, we never quite release that impostor syndrome.’ We always will check. ‘Did I get that? Did we get it?’ It was a beautiful moment, and I love him so much.”

In an interview with Breaking Baz, the Indian-American actress recalls how she had just gone through the jubilation of landing the lead role in Aseem Bahra’s NBC series I Feel Bad in 2018 and the devastation when it was cancelled after just one season. The episode had a real impact.
Landing the role in the Amy Poehler-executive produced comedy had been “an enormous thing,” says Blue, because it was a role that was ”never written Indian…. and I tested against three white women for it.” She instantly corrects herself by replacing the aggressive “against” with a softer “with.”

Women can be their own worst enemies. Thanks to countless impossible standards thrust upon them over centuries, it can be easy to internalize the smallest things as major failures. Acknowledging these expectations and other ways in which society marginalizes women is nothing new — it’s the basis of fourth-wave feminism, which came into prominence around 2012. And over the years, it’s become more and more common for women to openly acknowledge just how deeply they’ve been affected by projections of supposed measures of worth, and how much it’s made them hate themselves.
Several recent TV series have explored the topic. The lead of Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) reveled in her self-loathing and the 2018 NBC comedy I Feel Bad said it right there in the title. But no display of internalized self-hatred on TV has been as vicious or as true-to-life as that of Sheila Rubin (Rose Byrne) on Apple TV+’s Physical.

Finegan previously developed drama Capital at NBC with CannyLads and Carol Mendelsohn. He is currently writing Reset for Paramount, and recently produced Endless with Thunder Road and Gabriela Bacher.

The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition issued its annual report card for the 2018-2019 television season, examining ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox’s on-screen and off-screen representation of Asian Americans.
ABC once again scored highest among the four major broadcast networks, though the media-watch organization noted that “the biggest gains for APAs now seem to be happening in non-network media” such as Netflix’s “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” “Always Be My Maybe,” and “The Half of It,” Amazon Studios’ “Man in the High Castle,” Hulu’s “Pen15,” and Comedy Central’s “Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens.”
The report takes into account not just actors in scripted series, but metrics such as: hosts and contestants on unscripted shows, writers, producers, directors, development, commitment to diversity, and the group’s relationship with each network’s diversity department.

It's a sad day to be a moderately rated NBC freshman series.
The Peacock network has officially canceled The Village, The Enemy Within and Abby's.
When The Village was announced to be picked up to series at the network a year ago, it was touted as the next This Is Us.
However, the series failed to catch on in the ratings and was moved to the 8/7c slot for its final episodes following weak ratings.

The Village Season 1 averaged 4.1 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating on Tuesdays, meaning that a renewal was unlikely.
Still, the show boasted a robust cast that included the likes of Moran Atias, Lorraine Toussaint, and Michaela McManus.
The Enemy Within was another midseason entry that failed to catch on. It stepped into the Mondays at 10/9c slot when Manifest Season 1 concluded.

After three seasons, Steve Harvey is no longer host of “Little Big Shots.” He’s been replaced on the talent competition for kids by Melissa McCarthy, whose tenure marks a “brand refresh” on the series. It’s also further proof of her range: A two-time Oscar nominee (for “Bridesmaids” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”), McCarthy often vacillates between comedy and drama; with this latest venture, she now moves into the realm of unscripted television.
“Melissa’s just an incredible performer and incredible comedian,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s co-chairman of entertainment. “She will bring a completely fresh perspective to it.” Harvey also hosted a daytime talk show, “Steve,” which was distributed by NBCUniversal and taped its final episode this week. According to Variety, his “Little Big Shots” contract “called for him to receive a hefty raise for a fourth season” that will no longer materialize.

Keep stocking up on tissues, Pearson family fans, because it looks like you’re going to be with the NBC drama’s clan for the foreseeable future, as “This Is Us” has been renewed for a fourth, fifth and sixth season. Each season will consist of 18 episodes.
“In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of ‘This Is Us’ and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand,” Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, presidents of scripted programming at NBC Entertainment, said Sunday of the network’s unprecedented three-season renewal. “A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show’s inventive and compelling storytelling.”

NBC revealed its fall 2019-20 schedule on Sunday, giving Jimmy Smits’ legal drama “Bluff City Law” the coveted post-“Voice” slot on Mondays, while leaving many other nights intact from last year.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays remain unchanged, with “This Is Us” — fresh off a massive three-season renewal — to again lead into “New Amsterdam,” with “The Voice” kicking things off at 8 p.m. Wednesdays will also remain the same with Dick Wolf’s “Chicago” franchise.
On Thursdays, new comedies “Perfect Harmony” with Bradley Whitford, and Kal Penn’s “Sunnyside” will join veterans “Superstore” and “The Good Place.” “Superstore” will lead into “Perfect Harmony” while “Sunnyside” will air after “Good Place” at 9:30 p.m. At 10 p.m. “Law & Order: Svu” returns for its record-breaking 21st season.

Sad news for those hoping to see Jennifer Morrison and or Sarah Drew back on their TV screens: CBS has chosen not to pick up either actress’ drama pilot.
Once Upon a Time alum Morrison was hoping to head Under the Bridge with a medical drama in which a scandal rocks the private practice a cardiothoracic surgeon runs with her husband (Weeds‘ Justin Kirk) and their friends. The cast also included David Ajala (Supergirl), Sarayu Blue (I Feel Bad) and Reggie Lee (Grimm).

Although sitcom revivals are still all the rage, the networks keep developing new comedy series too. While they may not have that comfy-blankie feel of a returning favorite, they do bring fresh faces, and sometimes fresh perspective, to those viewers who just want a good laugh. In recent seasons, NBC has had some solid success with shows like The Good Place and Superstore, but others, like Champions failed to score even a second season. Enter the I Feel Bad TV show.
