While anime fans still look forward to the third season of One Punch Man, the beloved manga series may now have a future in theaters. Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced a live-action film way back in 2020 and the progress has been really slow on the project. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were initially signed on as writers, but the latest reports suggest that Rick and Morty writers Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.

Fast & Furious director Justin Lee will be the one helming the film. He is expected to bring the high-octane action package to Saitama’s story on the big screen. One-Punch Man became one of the best-selling manga series of all time just before the announcement of the film in April 2020.

Could the return of two fan-favorite characters to the NCIS universe mean more familiar faces might soon be making an appearance in the CBS franchise? Tony Dinozzo and Ziva David will be the focus of a new Paramount+ spinoff. But what about Gibbs and Abby, two other much-loved characters from the long-running series? In a recent interview, CBS execs commented on whether former NCIS stars Mark Harmon and Pauley Perrette might somebody make their way back into the NCIS fold.

Dan Harmon has established a pretty neat little entertainment empire, creating the beloved cult hit "Community" before co-creating "Rick and Morty" and overseeing Apple TV+'s "Strange Planet" and Fox's "Krapopolis." But it's been a rocky road to success for Harmon, who was previously kicked off his own show before being rehired, and in 2018 had to publicly apologize for his prior mistreatment of "Community" writer Megan Ganz — and those are just a couple of examples of the man's controversies. Despite these debacles, however, Harmon has been an entertainment mainstay for well over a decade at this point, and during that time he's not only managed to create several of his own successful shows, but he's also apparently been fairly influential in perhaps the biggest Hollywood success story of the modern era: the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Mark Harmon wasn’t NCIS creator Don Bellisario’s first choice for the show. But Bellisario was quickly sold on Harmon after seeing the actor’s performance in The West Wing. His acting on the political drama even informed how Bellisario would end up writing Gibbs.

Harmon was being looked at for the potential lead role in NCIS from the beginning. Casting director Susan Bluestein remembered that a lot of big names were being floated around for the NCIS lead role. These included the likes of Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Clive Owen. But Bluestein was one of a few executives that had her heart set on Harmon.

‘NCIS’ Creators Considered a Lot of A-list Actor to Play Gibbs — From Alec Baldwin to Patrick Swayze
Fans of NCIS eagerly await season 21 updates, as we can’t wait to find out when the beloved series returns. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job, NCIS creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.

Mark Harmon wasn’t always who NCIS creators wanted to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that other A-list stars were considered for the role.
Charles Floyd Johnson, executive producer for Jag and NCIS, spoke about the casting challenges production initially faced. “I know Harrison Ford was a name that everybody thought about for Gibbs because he was so perfect,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, I don’t think it ever got further than,...

Season 7 of “Rick and Morty” is the first volume of the Adult Swim animated sitcom, a “Back to the Future” riff tracking the adventures of a mad scientist and his bumbling grandson, not to star co-creator Justin Roiland as the voice of both title characters. The network fired Roiland in January after the actor was charged with domestic violence; though the charges have since been dropped, an NBC News report last month alleged a pattern of inappropriate sexual conduct. In between, the roles of Rick and Morty were recast with soundalikes Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, a monthslong saga that culminated with the debut of a Roiland-free show on Sunday.
All this behind-the-scenes upheaval might suggest “Rick and Morty” would return a markedly different show. But “How Poopy Got His Poop Back” is almost pointedly normal, collecting various fixtures of the “Rick and Morty” universe — not just Rick and Morty themselves,...

“I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say that the story would involve the gang getting back together,” says Dan Harmon.
That’s how he, star Joel McHale and co-writer Andrew Guest pitched the Community movie around town, pre-strike. And though Harmon and Guest still have work to do on the script, which Peacock ultimately greenlit, a Greendale Community College reunion is likely to remain core to its premise.
During the series’ run from 2009 to 2015, “six seasons and a movie” had become both a hashtag and a rallying cry for Community fans. Then, shortly before the pandemic hit, Sony approached Harmon, eager to seriously explore the “and a movie” after watching the show enjoy a strong second life in streaming. Harmon subsequently recruited Guest, who’d worked on the early seasons and was brought back for the series finale.

Chevy Chase would rather forget he was in “Community,” and for the most part, the “Vacation” actor has.
Chase, who starred in the cult favorite NBC sitcom before exiting after allegedly making racist comments on set, said during Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast that he doesn’t think much about the Dan Harmon-created series.
“Oh, I kind of forget about that,” Chase said when asked about the series. “Right, they wanted me. So I said Ok…I kind of forgot about that. I honestly felt the show wasn’t funny enough for me.”
He continued, “I didn’t mind the character [but] I felt a little bit constrained a bit. Everyone had their bits and stuff, I thought they were all good, but it just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me.”

Chevy Chase appeared on Marc Maron’s “Wtf” podcast (via Rolling Stone) and claimed that “Community,” the NBC sitcom he starred on for 83 episodes, was “not funny enough for me.” Chase played millionaire Pierce Hawthorne on “Community” for four seasons. His co-stars on the Dan Harmon-created comedy included Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover and Ken Jeong.
“I honestly felt the show wasn’t funny enough for me, ultimately. I felt a little bit constrained,” Chase said. “Everybody had their bits, and I thought they were all good. It just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me.”

Krapopolis has a new trailer — watch it above.
The Dan Harmon-created animated series will launch on Sunday, September 24, on Fox. It will launch with a special two-episode preview following the NFL doubleheader on the network.
Krapopolis then will become part of the network’s Animation Domination block from Sunday, October 1, where it will air at 8:30 p.m. after The Simpsons and before Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy.
This comes after the series scored a third-season renewal before a frame of the toon has been seen by the viewing public.
Fox previously shifted Krapopolis to the 2023-24 season, shaking up its plans to premiere the series in a four-episode, two-hour block in May.
Krapopolis has had a very long gestation period. Harmon signed a direct deal with the broadcast network in July 2020 with a series commitment. In February 2021, the then-untitled show was handed a formal series order, making it...

Mark Harmon, the former star of NCIS, is making a comeback to primetime on CBS this fall. But this isn’t the return that fans might be expecting.
The current strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild have put a halt on numerous TV shows, including ‘NCIS’ Season 21. CBS is improvising with an unexpected approach to keep viewers hooked, and that means bringing Harmon back into the spotlight.

Holy krap! Dan Harmon‘s animated comedy Krapopolis has an official release date at Fox. The series, which features the voice talents of Ted Lasso‘s Hannah Waddingham, What We Do In the Shadows‘ Matt Berry, comedian Richard Ayoade, Mapleworth Murders‘ Pam Murphy, and The Midnight Gospel‘s Duncan Trussell, will premiere on Fox on Sunday, September 24 at 8/7c with two episodes. (The debut takes place immediately after the Fox NFL doubleheader and air live to all time zones.) Starting October 1, Krapopolis will air right after The Simpsons on Sundays at 8:30/7:30c, followed by Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy. It joins the long-running adult animated series that make up the “Fox Animation Domination” lineup starting at 8/7c. Due to the ongoing WGA writers’ strike (which has affected the upcoming season of Family Guy), the Animation Domination block is the only part of the Fall 2023 schedule Fox has announced thus far.

There have been plenty of stories of fandoms influencing the thing they love over the years, but it's rare for fans and the creator to be in direct conversation with one another. That magically happened during the making of the cult NBC series "Community," and showrunner Dan Harmon loved taking fan feedback and incorporating it into the series. When it comes to his other series, "Rick and Morty," engaging with the fans in the same way just isn't possible for a few reasons. In an interview with MSNBC, Harmon explained how "Community" was perfectly poised to work with fan feedback, but times have changed, and animation is a totally different beast.
While it would be neat if every show could have that kind of back-and-forth between creators and fans, that's a whole lot of power given to the audience instead of the artist. Harmon would have been fully within his...

What set "Community" apart from nearly every other sitcom was its concept episodes that either parodied, homaged, or commented on the tropes of various popular films and television shows. You have "Contemporary American Poultry," which sees the main study group creating a chicken finger mafia in the style of "Goodfellas." You have "Basic Lupine Urology," which parodies "Law & Order" as the gang investigates a sabotaged science class experiment involving a yam. Then, of course, you have the paintball episodes, which call to mind everything from "28 Days Later" to "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly."
My personal favorite episode of "Community" features none of this. "Mixology Certification" is the tenth episode of the second season, and it's simply about the characters going to a local bar to celebrate Donald Glover's Troy Barnes turning 21 years old. With all the whizz-bang wildness the show can provide, I love that the...

For a brilliant and wildly entertaining series, "Community" went through a lot of ups and downs. The show had season premiere delays and times when it was taken off the schedule, leading fans to extreme campaigns, such as flash mobs singing "O' Christmas Troy" and a whole lot of #sixseasonsandamovie hashtags sent to NBC executives and social media accounts. The sixth season wasn't even on NBC but ended up on a new streaming platform Yahoo! was trying to get off the ground (and which subsequently crashed).
Chevy Chase, who played the curmudgeonly Pierce Hawthorne and creator Dan Harmon, also spent a lot of time feuding, and Chase left the series early in season 5. Donald Glover who played Troy Barnes left in the fifth season as well. The biggest change, however, was when Dan Harmon was fired before season 4, then hired back for season 5.

"Community" began as a conventional single-camera sitcom that balanced humor with romantic drama. But the series became increasingly ambitious through its first three seasons. Episodes parodied action films, zombie thrillers, and "My Dinner With Andre." Background gags and Easter eggs trained audiences to root through each episode for clues. The series could also nail the television fundamentals, as in season 2's bottle episode "Cooperative Calligraphy." "Community" was made by people who loved TV, and were willing to pull every trick in the book to do that love justice. Future seasons would challenge that love, of course. The departure of showrunner Dan Harmon led to a messy season 4, and even his return in the following two seasons wasn't enough to keep the cast from leaving for new and exciting opportunities. But the show's best episodes were so exceptional that it didn't really matter. "'Community' was always a show about underdogs,...

It is a miracle that Dan Harmon's groundbreaking sitcom "Community" lasted more than a half-season on NBC. The series about seven misfits who form a study group at the fictional Greendale Community College was aggressively dense in its world-building and proudly esoteric in its references. How esoteric? In only its second season, the show turned what was set up as a "Pulp Fiction" homage into an invigoratingly cerebral riff on "My Dinner with Andre" provoked by a character's extra work on Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel's "Cougar Town." Not so shockingly, "Community" ranked a dire 138 in the Nielsen ratings that year.
Harmon and a crack staff of writers that included Megan Ganz, Dino Stamatopoulos, Liz Cackowski, Chris McKenna, and Andy Bobrow shredded the outside of the envelope of what was acceptable on a network sitcom. It made "Seinfeld" look like "Full House." Critics and a cult following kept...

There are quite a few ways someone could describe the way the NBC series "Community" approached its sitcom status. Call it deconstruction, call it subversion, call it homage, but whatever you do, do not call the series a "spoof."
The show, which ran for five seasons on NBC before hopping over to Yahoo for its final season, played with the sitcom format to create something a little more interesting. Whether an episode played around with tropes or Abed (Danny Pudi) simply pointed out how "real life" was just like a television show, there was always a meta aspect of "Community" that turned the humor into a commentary on, well, humor.
Series creator and showrunner Dan Harmon would end up taking the lessons he learned from his time at Greendale Community College to his next series, "Rick and Morty," but not before leaving an indelible mark on the prime-time sitcom. In...

"Rick and Morty" is coming up on its sixth season, which begins September 4, 2022 on Adult Swim. But the show actually started 10 years ago, and those early years were rather difficult for co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. Thankfully, a guaranteed order of 70 episodes back in 2018 (with 40 left to complete after the sixth season concludes later this year) made it much easier for the series to maintain a proper schedule. In fact, things are going so smoothly that both Roiland and Harmon have been able to step away from the show somewhat. How do producers figure out what episode best represents their series when submitting the overall show for an award? For “Rick and Morty,” the process is “not scientific,” according to Dan Harmon.
The Harmon and Justin Roiland-created Adult Swim series, which has twice won the Emmy for outstanding animated series — first for the Season 3 episode “Pickle Rick” and then for Season 4’s “The Vat of Acid Episode” — has offered up “Mort Dinner Rick Andre” as its Season 5 contender at next month’s Emmys.
“We just looked at it as a really nice overall success from every department on the show,” Harmon told Variety ahead of the “Rick and Morty” Season 6 premiere on Sept. 4. “There’s elements of it that were just great instincts on the part of the artists. The draft writer in question, Jeff Loveness, he really put his heart into that. The premise had kind of a...

France’s Endemol Shine has announced the Australian sale of its hit cult-themed Israeli drama “Harem” to Australia’s Sbs.
During a keynote speech at last year’s Series Mania, Endemol Shine president Sohpie Turner Laing announced that Season 2 of the series had already been greenlit, and shooting would begin in 2019.
Inspired by cults in Israel and the world around, the series is a fictional tale of a charismatic, mystical healer named Shabtai, who lives near Tel Aviv with 20 wives and more than 40 children. Those belonging to the cult joined voluntarily, and have lived isolated themselves from society at large for more than 20 years.
When an attempt to recruit a new member of the organization goes wrong, the true extent of Shabtai’s influence is revealed once outside authorities become involved. It’s clear that beyond his reputation as a healer, teacher and guru, that Shabtai is as ruthless a...
