The restaurant critic and bon viveur hosts a search for home-cooked meals presented to professional standards. The contest begins with two dinner parties in north-west England, in which competitors set out to win one of Michael's Dining Star awards and a chance to cook for his celebrity gathering at the end of the series. Justine Forest, of Longridge, Lancashire, prepares beef Wellington, and Dean Lewis, from Wilmslow, Cheshire, cooks a West Indian starter of ginger and coconut prawns followed by curried goat.
