I had been very concerned when they said that serious 2 was "to be the last" but am so happy to see them back.

We are back taking a stroll down an English country lane.

This episode is full of promise, a bit of mystery, but our same Lance and Andy.

Very nice to see them back.

Detectorists has always been absolutely magical, but the final few moments of this episode are without doubt some of the most marvellous ever made for TV.

It's undoubtedly in large part due to the fabulous music provided by the Unthanks, but of course Mackenzie Crook had to have the foresight to *choose* to use it, so he still gets kudos.

Turning the picture black & white, shrinking the trees and showing the former occupants of this ancient land and the treasure they buried there in their grief, all to the accompaniment of Magpie is sheer genius. I have seen it multiple times and it still makes me shiver.

Perhaps this is why season 3 is available on Amazon and not filmrise? Because it was assumed to be non-existent?
