Very predictable story line. Acting was ok but more like a made for TV movie. Expect no surprises and you won't be too disappointed. You won't get the need for speed though

Nothing more or less than you should expect - It's entertaining

It is a simple film, it is an 'empowerment movie' (which can go either way), and yes it does have questionable morals alongside a few moments of character inconsistency. However, I found all of that forgivable and the movie enjoyable.
Despite inevitable movie conveniences and inaccuracies I felt they had made enough effort to make the environments and themes believable. I grew up in similar environments and have relatable experiences. It's a typical modern content feeder movie, but one that doesn't leave you feeling entirely hollow as many do.
Just be prepared to forgive some of the dialogue.

Somehow this girl, in spite of coming up with no dad and picked on as a weirdo loner in Monterrey, manages to have grown to expect every single adult in her life to let her do anything and everything she wants, whenever she wants. From stealing the school shop car and running away from home, to convincing her uncle to let her move in, then bust out his old race car against his will, then basically give it to her.... lies to her him and her mom about racing, then her punishment is that her apparently rich rich stepdad buys her an entire race team. the moral of this whole movie appears to be that all adults exist simply to serve the whims and fancies of a sixteen Year old girl. Post credits scene of uncle giving her a mint restored chevelle put it over the top and inspired me to write this review.
Family Movie

Grace Van Dien is impossibly cute and does a nice job in this simple but enjoyable family movie. If you think of this as 'Lizzie McGuire Goes Racing' you are going to be very satisfied. If you think it's going to be some kind of an Atomic Blonde action movie, how did you get there? It's a free (with subscription), PG, family, Netflix movie - it is exactly what most would think it would be.
Low octane action

I watched this with my wife hoping for an entertaining watch. We both thought it was a terribly bland film. Poor acting, very predictable boring story... well it was until we had had enough and turned it off after about an hour. It was daytime TV, the movie equivalent of call holding music. I have no idea how this ilm is rated at 10 by some reviewers. Horses for courses I suppose. All the 'best' bits are in the trailer. Save yourself the tedium...watch the trailer and save yourself the time you will never get back
not that bad

I think that some viewers gave this movie an unfair rating. It was good and entertaining and yes you probably knew what the outcome would be. Ellie and her mother finally understood each other towards the end and worked out their differences. I thought the actors in this movie were pretty good. If you like movies like this one, i recommend watching it.
So many fake reviews - seriously a 3 at best

I understand that some people love the main girl character and want to be entertained and I agree that female empowerment is a nice change.
However this film is just plain teenage entitlement. How is this sending a good message for kids and their parents? Lie and steal your way when ever adult tells you no, and get off without any punishment, what a great plot for a story.
Could have gone so many ways, I am stunned as to who approves the script when it's this bad. It's obviously bad. Even for a wrap it up in a bow Hallmark movie.

Extra star for Casper appearing (ghostlike?) in the film for like 3 seconds after being billed fourth in the cast

The film is a cliche from start to end, adapted for the modern woman, perhaps. You know the one: she can't lose to a man, she loves herself a macho arrogant man, but only until he utters anything dismissive, she expects everything to be given to her, she does perfectly at anything she tries without effort and in the end she is victorious against the arrogant man doing something he has been training for his whole life.
Now, Grace Van Dien is cute and she has potential to become better, but not by acting in the films she did until now and especially not this one. It was painful to see Sean Patrick Flanery relegated to the role of the old uncle in this crappy film, too.
Bottom line: there is nothing redeeming in this movie. It's predictable from start to end, it has a lazy implausible plot, inconsistent characters, bad acting, boring "sport" scenes and that horrid moral that teaches young people they deserve to be anything they wim being without doing anything for it.

Days of Thunder lite

I don't understand the hate this movie is getting. I mean it's no Days of Thunder but its worth a watch. It doesn't pretend to be more than it is. Simple feel good movie. Another 1 like it is called Dirt same basic movie but with a if memory serves correct black kid and trophy trucks.
Surprisingly a very good movie. : )

Another Disappointment

The trailer for this film looked fun, evidently it was just a well made trailer, because this film is not sadly. This is just another below average hallmark movie. From acting, story and just overall feel, it's just amateurish, which would make sense, because with this low budget they probably hired a 1st time film student director. On a positive note, I love the female empowerment, but here it just comes across as very forced and unbelievable.
A bit slow, but surprisingly funny, and touching! Really should watch it!

This film start with a girl "Ellie" getting suit up, and she talking with her mother scene! As turnout, this film is about a sixteen years old girl decide to compete in the dirt race! Entire film full of funny scene of Ellie with her friend, family, and rival! Make the film quite hilarious to watch! The racing scene, and training scene in the film also quite dope, and intense! Make the film quite watchable! At the end, Ellie won the Lucas Oil Speedway race! Still have a post credit scene! Ellie been gifted a car by Uncle Tim! That's it! A quite entertain film.
Just another bad Lifetime Movie Channel style movie.

Wow. Turned this off in about 15 mins. Lousy acting, cinematography, and predictable story.
Those rating this a 9 or 10 need to expand your horizons a bit. Maybe stop sitting home and watching daytime TV all day.
This is Lifetime at its worst.

Great acting, nice story, fast cars and a happy ending.. I'm made. I'm giving this movie 7 out of 10, whilst it only really deserves a 6, just to try and counter balance some of the relentless hate that exists in critic land nowadays. Yes it's a movie that follows a tried and tested formula, but so does our very human nature, hearing stories repeated over and over with different protagonists and slight variations is essentially all we've ever had. Is it short of some inception style upside down try hard attempt at originality, sure.. But is it worth hating on it or any other movie without such lengths of 'originality', absolutely not! We are a mundane species, most of us not reaching any further into our potential than any of these ambitiously themed stories that aim to kindle and inspire our rather fat fingered and fat a&*'d internal fire of ambition and drive aim to deliver us. So it lights me up and key's me in to see a young enthusiastic protagonist inspiring alternative leagues of youngsters into culturally 'contrived' roles in society. Girls fixing and racing cars is likely the real reason most people are offended at this title and have ranked it so low. So don't be afraid to watch it and be your own judge. P. S I teared up at the end - IE: Successfully MOVED.
Below average and predictable TV-movie endeavor

"Lady Driver" (PG, 104 min) is typical silly Netflix film with no substance, unbelievable story, predictable script and bland ending. Actually, it is tiresomely formulaic and fractionally patronizing movie about dirt-mud racing and female empowerment. As movie endeavor, it was quite disappointing. I didn't turned this off after 20 minutes - as I'm usually doing with similar movies - just because of cute Grace Van Dien in leading role.

I have not watched Stranger Things yet - although as I understand Grace van Dien has not a big role in the show ... on the other hand: isn't that always a subject to change? If you know more, forgive me not being as knowledgable.
That all aside the movie is pretty predictable (no pun intended - because Grace is also as sweet as one can be and reminded me of how she was during a Comic Con a few weeks ago - open and fun to be around). Add to that Sean Patrick Flannery as mentor ... what more can someone want and or need? A feel good movie overall ... never mind the story and the easy to spot "twists" and turns (if you can even call them that)

Predictable feel good Movie.

Lady driver gets a lot of hate and was a little unrealistic at times however I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Even though it felt a bit B grade at times, for me it was somewhat relatable and strangely emotional in a joyful and heartfelt way. A few of the racing scenes felt poorly edited and maybe it was just the camera angles but it looked like she should have spun out on more than one occasion and didn't. At the same time it also felt like they captured what a novice in the sport would look like.
All in all if you go in without expectations you will probably enjoy the movie for what it is, a predictable feel good movie, but honestly what movie plot isn't predictable these days.
