A storyline thread of the episode is Gary Noesner's effort to negotiate Randy Weaver's peaceful surrender during the Ruby Ridge standoff in 1992. His perception of and anger at how the government handled both Ruby Ridge and Waco was Tim McVeigh's motive for bombing the Alfred Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995.
Shares its name with a chapter from David Thibodeau's memoir, on which the miniseries is partly based.
Per his own memoir, Gary Noesner was on vacation in Bermuda, celebrating his wedding anniversary, during the siege at Ruby Ridge. As one of the miniseries' main characters, his insertion there was likely deliberate so as to keep him involved in the story.
