Originally started filming in February 2018 under the direction of Sajeev Pillai in his directorial debut, based on his own initial screenplay, with Jim Ganesh as cinematographer, A. Sreekar Prasad as editor, Anu Vardhan as costume designer, Vishnu Deva as choreographer and Kecha Khamphakdee as stunt coordinator. However after about a year of filming, Pillai was fired following creative differences with producer Venu Kunnappilly, the script was rewritten and filming started over from scratch with much of the crew & cast replaced. Department heads of the initial shoot receive "sincere thanks" credits at the beginning of the film.
Initially scheduled to release on 21 November 2019, the film was pushed back three weeks.
Was the most expensive Malayalam language film upon release, surpassing Odiyan (2018), and held onto the record until the release of Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021).
