A24 is backing a new documentary titled “Open Wide,” about an orthodontist whose controversial method of reshaping people’s jawlines went viral on TikTok for all the wrong reasons.
Sara Goldblatt directed “Open Wide,” which will be available to watch Jan. 23 on Netflix.
The documentary explores a father and son who are fighting to upend mainstream orthodontics. According to the official logline, “John Mew has waged a lonely war against the industry — and that teenage rite of passage, braces, for decades. With his son Mike now taking up the fight, the Mews’ fringe theories have turned into a full-blown online sensation. But even while mewing goes viral on TikTok and the Mews churn out content for their millions of followers, Mike is pursued by the British Orthodontic Society and threatened with expulsion by the very people who took away his father’s license.”

True crime is a genre that has taken over, allowing many people who have found themselves curious by these cases have a sense of understanding.
With women being the predominant victims in these situations, watching this content allows them a sense of control.
It is almost like the more we know, the better prepared we can be.
The influx of documentaries also allows a bigger platform for certain stories that deserve to be heard.
And sometimes, it is just about you being in the mood to sit down and watch some true crime.
These are just a few true crime options worth the watch because they are truly fascinating watches or because of the conversations that started afterward.
With many more coming this year, it felt only right to get ready by looking back at some of the most fascinating so far.
But this is only the beginning, with the...

Netflix is notorious for keeping all streaming data hidden from public knowledge, but the company has broken its silence by revealing which shows were the most binged in 2017. Netflix looked at the average daily viewing hours per user from November 2016 to November 2017 to come up with its official “Shows We Devoured” list, which is surprisingly topped by the acclaimed true crime spoof “American Vandal.”

Series viewed more than two hours per day were considered “devoured,” while those viewed less than two hours a day were categorized as “savored.” The Emmy-winning drama series “The Crown” topped the “Shows We Savored” list, which also included numerous comedy titles such as “Big Mouth,” “Neo Yokio,” “Disjointed,” “Dear White People,” and Glow.” The most-binged list included popular foreign titles like the Brazilian series “3%” and the Mexican political drama “Ingobernable.”

Shout out to the UK subscriber who watched Bee Movie 357 times this year. Your dedication has been duly noted by Netflix...
Bee Movie, the 2007 animated meme generator, has a very committed UK fan. Someone so enamoured by the adventures of Barry B. Benson, that in 2017 they were willing to spend 32,487 minutes of their time rewatching the film on Netflix.
Netflix, for their part, did not want this devotion to go unsung, so this week they specifically acknowledged the bee-witched viewer and created a little buzz (I'm sorry) surrounding the, er, achievement, by including the factoid in their 2017 'Year In Review'.
The Jerry Seinfeld-starring flick could have been consumed once a day, or for almost 24 days continuously. No one knows, as the streaming giant are naturally keeping the person's identity anonymous, and further details under wraps.
Oh, and Netflix also released a bunch of Top 10 lists, but...

This week, the Cinemaholics saw Only the Brave and they’re more than ready to talk about the movie, which is based on true events surrounding the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Connelly, this is a biographical drama full of some big surprises, and we definitely recommend that you see it before digging into the real story.
Elsewhere on the show, Jon, Will and Maveryke also talk about The Snowman, starring Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson and directed by Tomas Alfredson. Based on the seventh novel of a series of detective stories by Jo Nesbø, The Snowman hasn’t exactly taken the critics or audiences by storm (and don’t get us started on Geostorm), so sit back and hear Will’s thoughts on how the David Fincher knockoff plays out.
Following that, Jon and Maveryke rave about Fincher’s work in Mindhunter Season 1, now on Netflix,...
