Some might say they don’t want a lot for Christmas, but who’s going to turn down a Christmas movie starring rapper-actor Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and comedian Lil Rel Howery?
Directed by Tim Story, and produced by Will Packer’s Will Packer Productions, comes the comedic fantasy film “Dashing Through the Snow,” which carries the title of the classic Christmas jingle “Dashing Through the Snow (Jingle Bells).”
In the lighthearted tale, Bridges stars as Eddie Garrick, a social worker who no longer believes in the magic of Christmas due to a traumatic childhood experience. But, with the help of his Christmas-loving daughter Charlotte (Madison Skye Validum) and good ol’ Saint Nick — who just goes by Nick (Lil Rel Howery) — the group is on a mission to restore Eddie’s faith in Christmas while evading wicked politician Conrad Harf (Oscar Nuñez).

Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the Grammy-winning Isley Brothers who helped create some of the most memorable songs in American musical history, has died. His brother Ron confirmed the news to Deadline. Rudolph Isley was 84.
In a statement provided to Deadline, Ron Isley said of his brother’s passing, “There are no words to express my feelings and the love I have for my brother. Our family will miss him. But I know he’s in a better place.”
The Isley Brothers have had various lineups through the years, but Rudy was with the band from its beginnings in the late 1950s to his retirement from music in 1989, when he took up a Christian ministry. During that time, they recorded such classics as “Shout,” cowritten by Rudy, which in 1959 became their first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The record sold over a million copies. After starring in the comedy Vacation Friends (which I enjoyed much more than our reviewer did) and its sequel (didn’t watch that one yet) for the Hulu streaming service, Lil Rel Howery has taken the lead in another Hulu Original – but this time they switched up genres. Their new collaboration is the sci-fi horror movie The Mill, which is set to start streaming on October 9th as part of the service’s “Huluween” event. With that release date just over a week away, we’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for The Mill, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Directed by Sean King O’Grady (We Need to Do Something) from a screenplay by Jeffrey David Thomas (All American: Homecoming), The Mill sees Howery playing the role of a white-collar businessman who mysteriously wakes up in an open-air prison cell containing only an old grist mill.

PepsiCo is not the typical producer of entertainment content, apart from the Super Bowl halftime show, decades’ worth of commercials and the 2018 big-screen basketball comedy “Uncle Drew.” But on Sunday, the soft-drink manufacturer will break into showbiz in a whole new way with the premiere of the Jason Biggs-hosted primetime trivia game show “Cherries Wild” on Fox. Yes, that title is a very clear nod to Pepsi’s Wild Cherry flavor — but Fox promises that the 30-minute show is not going to turn out to be a 30-minute commercial for soda. And Rob Wade, Fox’s president of alternative entertainment and specials, insists that “Cherries Wild” originated as a show — not a Pepsi commercial. “The show came first,” Wade told TheWrap. “It wasn’t like we came up with the show for Pepsi. The show and format existed. It was something we liked and it was something that was...

American sports comedy, “Uncle Drew” has netted itself a theatrical release in mainland China, where basketball is a major sport. It will be released in Chinese cinemas on Jan. 11, 2019.
Starring hoops legend Kyrie Irving in the title role, the film delivers a story about a team of old-time ball players who pull together for one last tournament. It also stars Chris Webber, Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller and Nate Robinson.
“Uncle Drew” was originally a digital episodic series, conceived by Pepsi. The movie version, directed by Charles Stone, was produced by Temple Hill in association with PepsiCo’s Creators League Studios. Released by Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment in North America in June, the film racked up $42.5 million stateside.
The Middle Kingdom outing is likely to significantly swell the film’s score outside North America, which to date stands at a lowly $2.4 million, with fully a third of that coming from Chinese-administered Hong Kong.

The actor is in serious awards contention for his role in “Black Panther,” but also most recently starred in “Creed II,” “Fahrenheit 451” and “Kin.”
Josh Brolin
We all know Josh Brolin played the villain in both “Deadpool 2” And “Avengers: Infinity War” (which is a feat in itself), but he also starred in “Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado” and “The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter.”
Tessa Thompson
Thompson seems to have been in every movie this year, and that’s for good reason: She starred in “Annihilation” alongside Natalie Portman, as well as “Sorry to Bother You,” “Little Woods,” “Furlough” and “Creed II.”
Patrick Wilson
Wilson is now just making the rounds as King Orm in James Wan’s “Aquaman,” but the actor also starred in “Insidious: The Last Key,” “”The Commuter,” “The Nun,” “Nightmare Cinema” and he is currently filming the Untitled “Annabelle” film.

Alba had the unfortunate distinction of topping the list of women, averaging a Metacritic score of just 39 out of 100, with 59 percent of her films having been negatively reviewed compared to just 5 percent receiving generally positive reviews. The actress, who has starred in films like “Fantastic Four,” “Sin City” and “Machete,” had a worse track record than actresses including Jessica Biel, Heather Graham and Radha Mitchell, who placed just behind her.

Fresh from a losing effort against the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving was in no mood for gratitude on Wednesday night. When a sports reporter wished him a Happy Thanksgiving the five-time NBA All-Star gave the holiday a hard foul.
The Uncle Drew star and Pepsi Max pitchman told the scribe that he doesn’t celebrate the holiday. For emphasis he added: “F— Thanksgiving.”
On Thursday, after taking considerable heat, Irving took to Twitter and admitted his comments were out-of-bounds although he stopped short of offering an actual apology.
“I spoke with frustration after last night’s game and spoke words that shouldn’t be in a professional setting no matter what,” Irving tweeted.
In a follow-up tweet he added: “Meant no disrespect to the holiday and those who celebrate it respectfully. I’m grateful for the time we all can share with our families. We are always One.

Independent trackers are looking for “Bohemian Rhapsody” to open to the tune of $35-$40 million.

September, the month when many movie-goers return to school, is generally not prime release time for a big, raucous, “down ‘n’ dirty” comedy starring one of the most popular film “funnymen”, Kevin Hart. Aha, but what if the new movie comedy’s premise is his return to school. This could be inspired marketing timing. Speaking of timing, the very prolific Hart, who seemed to be in a new flick every five or six weeks, appears to be pacing himself, perhaps following his own marketing strategy. Aside from his Summer TV game show “Tko”, we’ve not seen him at the multiplex in over nine months, when Hart was part of the ensemble cast that made the reboot adventure Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle a surprise holiday hit. As with that smash, Hart is not alone this time out. Many of his biggest successes have been team-ups, from Ice Cube in...

Updated with executive comments: Lionsgate beat forecasts by Wall Street analysts for its fiscal first quarter, reporting Thursday a fully diluted loss of 4 cents per share of and total revenue of $932.7 million.
Analysts had called for a loss of 7 cents a share and revenue of $885.1 million.
The key metrics in the quarter ending June 30 represented a downturn from the year-earlier period, when the company reported earnings of 8 cents a share and revenue of $1.01 billion. That quarter had included the surprising gains from the second John Wick installment and strong ancillary business for La La Land.
Starz reported a sequential increase of 300,000 subscribers in the quarter ending June 30, recording gains in both traditional Mvpd and Ott subscribers. Along with the financial results, the company also announced that it has entered agreements to launch Starz Play branded channels in France, Italy and Spain, following previous launches in the UK and Germany.

A year after her breakout role in “Girls Trip,” Tiffany Haddish has more than half a dozen movies lined up. And unlike some actors who stockpile potential projects that aren’t likely to see the light of day, most of these movies are well on their way to theaters.
Since “Girls Trip,” the actress became the first black female stand-up comedian to host “Saturday Night Live,” released her book “The Last Black Unicorn,” stars with Tracy Morgan in TBS’s sitcom “The Last Og,” and had a supporting role in Lionsgate’s basketball comedy “Uncle Drew.” Here’s a quick guide to all the places Haddish will appear on the big screen in the next year:
Sept. 28 — She stars in Universal’s comedy “Night School,” in which she plays a no-nonsense teacher opposite Kevin Hart’s particularly hapless student. Footage from “Night School,” directed by “Girls Trip” director Malcolm D. Lee,...

What kind of character might that entail? An associate of the villain Mysterio? Another bad guy entirely? Let the theories and rumors commence. It’s the first full weekend of July, but it looks like the summer’s top openers will all have opened prior to Independence Day. The last real shot at another $100 million+ opening was this weekend’s “The Ant-Man and the Wasp,” the fourth Marvel release in five months. It ended up with a decent but not spectacular $76 million.
That would make it the lowest Marvel opener of the year, the first not to pass $100 million, and a gross below the disappointing start for “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” It’s lower than the last 10 Marvel opening weekends. (“X-Men: Apocalypse” just over two years ago the last disappointing result.)
So is this a problem? Context matters, and what’s relevant here is this is a sequel to a Marvel sub-franchise. The first “Ant-Man” opened mid-July to an adjusted total of $63 million, so this is about a 20 percent improvement.

Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has taken the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend, hitting the center of independent tracker projections with an $76 million opening from 4,206 screens.
While this is the lowest opening for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film since the first “Ant-Man,” it’s still an 33 percent improvement over that 2015 predecessor. The sequel has an A- on CinemaScore and an 86 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Globally, “Ant-Man and the Wasp” has a $161 million start, launching in Korea with a $20.9 million opening weekend, and China and most of Europe still to come. Unlike most other Marvel releases, “Wasp” will have a steady overseas rollout to give the film distance from Disney’s other current release, “Incredibles 2,” as well as to dodge competition from the final stages of the FIFA World Cup. IMAX contributed $10 million to the global total, with $6 million coming from domestic screens.

Following a year that has made her a household name after her breakout role in “Girls Trip,” Tiffany Haddish has no plans of slowing down.
With current roles in “The Last Og” and “Uncle Drew,” and soon starring in “Night School” and “Nobody’s Fool,” the funnywoman has a full schedule and even bigger dreams on the horizon. At Hollywood Confidential’s An Evening with Tiffany Haddish in Los Angeles on Friday night, the star told Variety that down the line, “I want to get my production company up and running, be able to provide a lot of jobs for people that actually have talent and skill, I want to still open up those streets — get two streets that intersect called Tiffany and Haddish — open up that youth center, that job placement center, that art center, that mental health center. I really want to give everyone a chance to be their selves.

No gigantic blockbusters opened over the weekend of June 29-July 1, which allowed “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” to top the box office chart for the second week in a row, followed once again by Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2.” But what did that mean for the week’s biggest new release, the crime thriller “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” starring Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro?
“Jurassic World” dipped almost 60% in its second weekend, raking in another $60 million for a domestic total of $264 million thus far. Globally it’s closing in on the billion-dollar mark as its worldwide receipts add up to $932 million. The previous “Jurassic World” (2015) ended up with gargantuan hauls of $652 million domestic and $1.671 billion all across the globe.
“Incredibles 2” dipped modestly in its third week of release, slipping 43% to $45 million over the three-day period, bringing its domestic total to $439 million and its worldwide intake to $646 million.

In the wild and crazy summer months of box office reporting, there are actually weekends that can be labeled as boring and predictable. This weekend surely is one of those times. Not only did the films in the top 10 all fall where anticipated, but there really weren’t any surprising numbers at all.
For the second weekend in a row, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” earned the #1 spot. This weekend the dino actioner pulled in an estimated $60 million, for an expected drop of -59.5% from its big opening.

Summer 2018 shows signs of strength beyond the usual blockbusters. But will the box office sustain beyond its great first half? It depend how one defines sustain. The biggest openings — including Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” next weekend — are likely behind us and make up the bulk of the long haul. It will take some better-than-expected results from the rest of the forthcoming releases to keep up the pace.
Two modest-budget titles under $50 million, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” (Sony) and “Uncle Drew” (Lionsgate), performed better than predicted with their respective $19 million and $15.5 million opening weekends. While both fell short of summer 2017 sleepers “Baby Driver” and “Girls Trip,” by opening on the same weekend and adding to the strong holdover totals, the newbies helped the weekend totals come in slightly higher than their equivalent last year. That sustains a year to date total that remains up nearly ten percent.

Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Disney's Incredibles 2 remain the weekend's top two films, generating over $100 million combined.
